Op-ed for Op-ed: McCain to strike back in 'Pravda'

(CNN) - Responding to Russian President Vladimir Putin's controversial opinion piece in the New York Times, Sen. John McCain jokingly told CNN's Jake Tapper he'd like to write a commentary for Pravda, the historic Russian newspaper connected to the Communist Party.

Well, now it looks like McCain may get his wish.

According to Foreign Policy's blog The Cable, the editors of Pravda have tentatively agreed to publish an op-ed by the Arizona Republican. The opinion piece will most likely reflect McCain's strong negative views toward Putin.

"We have to remember who Putin is. He's a KGB colonel apparatchik, who has never abandoned the Russian ambitions for an empire, and influence in the world," McCain said Thursday on Tapper's show, "The Lead."

Dmitry Sudakov, the English editor of Pravda, told The Cable that if McCain wants to write an op-ed, he is "welcome."

"Mr. McCain has been an active anti-Russian politician for many years already," Sudakov continued. "We have been critical of his stance on Russia and international politics in our materials, but we would be only pleased to publish a story penned by such a prominent politician as John McCain."

A spokesman for McCain told The Cable that McCain "would be glad to write something for Pravda, so we'll be reaching out to Dmitry with a submission."

I'm sure this will be very helpful for negotiations concerning the securing of chemical weapons in Syria. But then, McCain doesn't care about that; he wants one last war to bloviate about on the Sunday chat shows before he rides off in the sunset.

Great, another opportunity for the GOP/Teatrolls to crap on US-Russia relations and then blame it on Obama. Senator McPampers should've kept his fat crooked yap shut.

It shows how Sen. McCain is deeply in Soviet times and Soviet myths. No one knows in Russia that Pravda newspaper still exists. Where is he – in 1983? :) Vodka, apparatchik, tovarisch :-)

If I were given the chance to write an op-ed response, it would be:

    What-evs, Vlad.

I am sure Congress has work to do. McCain and our other elected officials should focus on that. We are a big country. We can handle name calling and criticsm from other countries without resorting to schoolyard behavior. We are Americans and proud of it.

Hopefully he will use common sense and not use rhetoric which will set back the negotiations. He has every right to do this but perhaps his timing is not great. He is not known for his diplomacy either and he could do a lot of damage if not careful. Maybe that's what he wants.

Putin himself is a dictator who doesn’t allow his own people to freely express their views. How many political prisoners are there in Russians prisons???

I think someone should look into John McCain's medical record and see if there are any mental health issues. He seems obsessed with getting US military action in Syria but then threatens to have the President impeached if it escalates and requires boots on the ground. During the hearing he was shown playing e-poker on his phone and when asked about the incident he laughed and said he lost $2K. This man creates a problem, then does not even have the decency to pay attention while the matter involving the lives of our service people is being debated, then jokes about it.

Recently, He was faced with critics in his home state who dared suggest to their elected official that any money that might be used in a Syrian conflict would be better spent on our returning service people here at home. He reacted by angrilly saying that he "of all people" should not be criticized for his record on military benefits.

This man shouldn't have this kind of power and responsibility. He is sick and should be recalled before he harms any more of our service men and women.

  17. Tell the Truth

He backed Obama's plan for a military attack
Then he criticized Obama because the attack was to be 'limited'
    Then he backed Diplomacy
Putin solved the problem with Diplomacy
And this senile old trout is STILL running around looking for a fuss to create!

Put him out to pasture – he's going to re-rail negotiations!

Americans live in the past and are proud of it! Nobody reads "Pravda" these days: you will really struggle to find it anywhere! So considering it is probably a good place for McCain to right his crap for! "Pravda" editor hopes that will help him to sell a few more copies. But I do not think many people in Russia knows who McCain dude is: some may think he is an American communist or something!
