Five years later, a distracted president struggles with the economy

Washington (CNN) - It's been five years since the banking and credit crisis rocked the U.S. economy, causing markets to plunge, unemployment to spike, housing values to crumble and placing more Americans in financial peril than at any time since the Great Depression.

On Monday, President Barack Obama touted his administration's successes in helping to turn things around even though national economic growth remains sluggish and millions of people have given up looking for work.

What a vapid, superficial, lackluster load of tripe. I could've had a 5 year old sit in front of the computer and complete the research this article required. W/e. Another day, another hit piece...at Faux-lite

Obviously, the reporter Leigh Ann Caldwell, is using the term "distracted" but that is just code for the fact that she just can't stand having a black man as president, right PD Sniffit?

President George W. Bush , said the U.S. economy was structurally sound for the long-term despite a shrinking job market and anemic economic growth. ... WASHINGTON | Mon Feb 11, 2008 1:48pm EST.

You can't spin that , unless you suffer from amnesia !

Barebones, whitewash gloss-over of the facts and historical record: check.

Carefully manufactured false equivalence narrative: check.

Baseless implicit suggestion that its all somehow Obama's fault: check.

Faux News viewers flocking to CNN to hear more of the reality-denial narrative they crave: Nope.

Give it up, CNN. You're not gonna win them by adopting Ailes' definition of "fair and balanced."

    @CNN,

I'd say the President is struggling more with a pathologically obstructionist Congress.

Who, by the way, need to stop playing hooky today and get their fannies back to the Capitol. We got Syria. We got a debt ceiling about to expire with no deal in sight. That's just for starters. What won't help the economy? Taking advantage of another "half-day" of work for some patriotic grandstanding about a horrible tragedy at the Navy Yard on cable news this afternoon.

To show how blinded by partisanship people are here, they are chastising repubs for leaving early due to the shooting when it's the democrats who run the senate. Classic.

Come on, Tommy Paine and DMFO, you're better than that!!
    **********************
By no means was I chastising them for leaving: all I commented on was the lack of things accomplished by the GOP House even when they are in session. Sure it was a cheap shot, but far less offensive then some of the drivel posted by just saying, hector slagg and the usual cast of delta minuses.

Most of our current problems (high deficit, low wages, climbing costs) can all be traced back to Reagan.

Reagan started busting the public unions (air traffic controllers) and globalism did the rest. Middle class wages started to stagnate under Reagan causing the rich to become richer and the gap to get wider (it was all about yuppies (Young upwardly mobile professionals) back in the 80s). Reagan said that govt was the problem and the GOP continues this mantra ever since then. They fight every tax increase for the rich and refuse to simplify the tax code that benefits the rich. Corporations get tax breaks and they ship jobs overseas where Indians and the Chinese will do our jobs for a pittance which doesn't help our standard of living or infrastructure. Reagan started the long slide in the middle class and today's GOP want to force more austerity on the middle class and poor. IN the end, America will slowly become a banana republic like the islands in the Caribbean.

"As Democrats, as part of the core of who we are, we don't believe in allowing a 'A Tale of Two Cites.' As Democrats it is our urgent imperative to create equality, to make sure everyone has a piece of the American dream, that everyone has a piece of the dream that is New York, so I am profoundly honored, I am profoundly humbled to receive the support of Bill Thompson," de Blasio said

looks like we got another little mini-obama socilaist here. another class warfare, confiscate the wealth and give it away. does this clown know he is a mayor? the leftist democrats are so far out in leftist field they have no idea how our economy works and who deserves the fruits of their labor. democrats have turne dthe government into a criminal shakedown operation using the tax code.

That's right: the entire Federal Tax Code is doevoted to making the life of just sayin a living hell. Strange, none of your posts have shown an understanding of how our economy, government, or even how life works works, but it has given us invaluable insight in the ravings of a paranoid, narcissistic mind. Thanks for the entertainment.

""Why do you think they don't atack the police stations?"

But they do. Go use your Googlez like a good boy.

I used the Googlez like you said and I found on a website specifically for Police that there were less than 5 in 2013 and they were either with a gun or a situation where the person was looking for suicide by police. You are impressive, PD Sniffit. You will say anything to try and prove your point and usually you'll just make stuff up. "

Let's get this straight then: Someone says it doesn't happen, the facts prove them wrong via Teh Googlez, but you're so upset about it proving them wrong that you feel obligated to claim that I somehow lied or made stuff up, leveling ad hominem at me and, apparently, doing what you think is clever namecalling with your "PD" nonsense. 5 times in 2013 is 5 times too many, and the person's motive or how it turned out has absolutely nothing to do with the FACT that they did it and the FACT that they did it disproves the claim that people don't do it. That's very simple logic. Moreover, people who do it at schools and other venues are frequently also looking for suicide by police or just take their own life, as evidenced by that being the result a good percentage of the time.

I did get this little nugget out of the article:

"A CNN/ORC International poll conducted this month indicates that 41% of the public says the economy is the most important issue facing the country right now, with health care at 16% and the crisis in Syria at 15%"

I doubt we'll be hearing a GOPerville JOBS! JOBS! JOBS! mantra this next election cycle, though. Seems the GOP have gone to bigger and better meme's. (In their little world anyway.)

    Benghazi! Benghazi! Benghazi!

    Impeach! Impeach! Impeach!

And so on and so forth.

Got a crush on me or something, Jethro? If you'd like to engage, at least respond to something in particular that I've posted in the article's comment section instead of just taking out-of-the-blue pot shots. You look like a petulant child pulling that crap. Gonna cry? Hold on...lemme get out my tearbucket.

Distracted President? Which Party (the one elected in 2010 to the House on "Jobs, jobs, jobs") has become distracted with passing laws controlling the female reproductive system instead?

Really, President Obama is "struggling" with the economy? Here's a more accurate headline:

In spite of years of obstruction from the GOP, our economy is recovery under President Obama's leadership"

Yeah, yeah, it's a little long ... use a smaller font size, bub!

Or how about this more accurate headline:

Thank God for Sniffit I always say, I've learned more from his posts than most "articles" on this thread.

@Sniffit: "people who do it at schools and other venues are frequently also looking for suicide by police or just take their own life"

Police have a term for this (it happened in my community about 6 years ago, and this is exactly how the officer involved described it): "Suicide by cop."

    @PD Sniffit
Boy is someone cranky today. You must not have had your nap yet. I was actually really more excited to get your rationalized, intellectually dishonest and twisted like a pretzel response to my other comment:

"By the way, I'm still really worried about this deal with Russia with regards to Syria. I mean, since Putin doesn't respect Obama strictly because of the color of his skin, how can we trust that he will carry out the agreement? Either Obama is crazy to trust a racist like Putin, or he is totally naive, or both. Which one is it, PD Sniffit? How can the pres work out a deal with an obvious racist like Putin?"

    Thoughts?
