DeLay conviction overturned

(CNN) – Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's conviction on money laundering charges was overturned Thursday by a court in Texas.

DeLay, who was once one of the most powerful men on Capitol Hill, was convicted in 2010 for allegedly trying to influence Texas elections by trying to channel nearly $200,000 in corporate donations to Republicans running for the state legislature, which is prohibited by Lone Star state law. Delay, who served more than two decades in the House before resigning in 2006, was sentenced to three years in prison.

"Because we conclude that the evidence was legally insufficient to sustain DeLay's convictions, we reverse the judgments of the trial court and render judgments of acquittal," said an opinion from the District Court of Travis County, Texas.

DeLay was visiting Capitol Hill on Thursday. He was praying in the House chapel when his phone rang and his lawyer told him the news, a source close to DeLay told CNN.

DeLay then headed over to lunch with his former colleagues in the Texas delegation at their weekly lunch.

"He said he felt vindicated," Rep. Randy Neugebauer told CNN as he left the lunch.

The U.S. Department of Justice ended its own investigation of Delay in 2010 without filing any criminal charges against the former congressman. He has been free on bail pending appeal of his conviction.

I hope Delay can now sue the person and organization that persued this politically motivated debacle. He should be able to collect his lawyer costs as well as damages to his reputation. It is the only way to stop this abuse of office by the Democrats.

That's Texas – If you've got the money honey, you don't have to do the time. Yes this has happened in both political parties. We have had corrupt, greedy, power hungry politicians in both parties. In every state in the United States. Some have serviced time – but not many. The most interesting group of corrupt, greedy, power hungry, evil men and politicians, Check out the background, history and ancestors of the George Herbert Walker Bush family, Pull all this info up on Google. There are thousands of articles which give you the facts – not opinions – plus many books have been written about them. It is really interesting from the 1900 hundreds on. Some had their assets ceased, but none ever convicted or served any time. But the evil part started with GHWB and friends, then family members in the 1950's and has continued on. Like a Octopus with its long slimy tentacles in every part of government corrupting everything they touched and our country, while pretending to be upright moral citizens!

It goes to show that judges are politicians who only think of their own hides when it comes to ruling on cases. It's a sad day when we see that the US justice system has the best system of justice that money can buy. Whatever happened to 'Justice is Blind'? Oh yeah, I remember now. One of DeLay's cohorts, John Ashcroft, ordered the partial covering of the figure of Justice when he was Attorney General.
