Michele Bachmann: Obama ‘used to being George III’

Washington (CNN) – Tea party firebrand Rep. Michele Bachmann was unabashed in her criticism of Obamacare and the president it’s named for Thursday night, comparing President Barack Obama with a British tyrant.

“He’s used to being George III,” the Minnesota Republican said of what she described as the president’s refusal to negotiate with Congressional Republicans over the continuing resolution to fund the government.

George III was king of England during the American Revolution.

Bachmann was debating the topics of Obamacare and the Republican plan to defund it on CNN’s “Crossfire” with Rep. Charles Rangel, D-New York.

In a heated exchange, the two displayed some of the fierce contention consuming Congress over the looming federal shutdown threat.

Bachmann continually argued that neither she nor Republicans have any interest in shutting down the government, only in defunding Obamacare by tying it in with a continuing resolution to fund the government. Variations of that plan have been pursued by Congresses of the past in attempts to kill a variety of pieces of legislation, Bachmann said.

Shutting down the federal government is “the last thing we’re going to do,” Bachmann said, pointing out that Obamacare has become an increasingly unpopular law that she and other Republicans consider to be socialized medicine.

Rangel countered that the defund plan is a nonstarter, doomed to fail in the Democrat-controlled Senate. “It’s ridiculous and they know that it can’t be done,” he said.

Republicans want to “kill everything the president stands for,” Rangel said. “That’s not negotiation. That’s putting a gun to the president’s head.”

Rangel argued that Obama in fact got reelected on the issue of Obamacare.

To that Bachmann countered: “And so did I.”

Michele you have some huge veins in your neck... So much for all your loud defunding Obamacare talking.. all hot air..

Oh well the GOP House loses.. again.. If the House in Vegas lost as much as you and your illegitimate majority do, the Strip would be full of bankrupt casinos..

    1. Tyrants do not typically serve limited terms based on elections.
2.Most of the provisions in the ACA enjoy fairly decent if not strong support. The Republican lies about the ACA believed by people who frankly never even bothered to read the actual law on the other hand are very unpopular.
    3. If we are to believe polls really represent the will of the people what happened in the last election?
    4. Saying we don't want to shut down the government we just want to tie keeping ti funded to something we know we can not have is the same as saying we want to shut down the government.

Ms. Bachman, you did get elected, but do not compare your election to the election of the President of the United States. You do not enjoy that level of national support, so it is time for you to become a little more humble.

Democrats should welcome putting Obamacare on hold so they can trash Republicans for doing it. Otherwise it will collapse on its own as it's simply not possible to impliment the horribly crafted program, and when that happens Obama and team Obama and all his Congressional Democrat supporters will get roasted and tossed out of office.

    No, they prefer a noose.

So Charlie Rangel took the time to debate ???? and to listen to ???? and to try and reason with ??? Why would any sane person (even one with ethics violations) waste time talking to ??? when she's clearly proven she's unstable, a pathological liar and unfit to hold ANY government office?

Boy – am I glad Michele is trying to fill the Palin void. I think I'll hang on to that picture of her eating the corn-dog. It's so symbolic of her intellect to choose such a photo-op.

Get real Michelle. You got reelected by less than 5000 votes in your own district. A district that you should win just by virtue of having an R after your name. Not exactly an overwhelming endorsement, now was it? Saw the writing on the wall did you?

Once again a CNN "commercial" for its own show (barely) disguised as a news story.

Bachman and Rangel debating anything. This is how low TV has sunk? They should both be banned from the public airwaves. I'm glad I don't watch much TV.

No one can possibly compete with the tyranny of the right wing GOP. The tenacity with which they have blockaded the elected president so they can force their will on the people who elected him is reminiscent of Hitler himself.

Its so shocking and disgusting that we MUST remove them all in 2014.

Yes, by the slimmest of margins in a district that should have been a cake walk for any Republican not foaming at the mouth. You almost went the way of your buddy Allen West. Middle America is sick and tired of the insults and hyperbole. Good thing you're stepping down or you'd find that out next election cycle when they would have finished you off!

She's right many of us do not want Obamacare! I voted against it and many people I know also did. Why not just let the taxpayers vote on it? Our horse and pony show in DC obviously isn't working. Just put it on a ballot and let the people decide!

I would really not want to be in the reign of Queen Michele. If anyone approaches being a tyrant it is a solitary individual who has spent years trying to reverse what most Americans want, but she and the few people that elected her do. MIchele won by 4300 votes in the 6th Cong. District in her last election. And that determines, what this country should follow. Insanity...

So let me get this straight: CNN offers Bachmann – an irrelevant nutjob who isn't running for re-election because she's wildly unpopular and doesn't have a chance, and who has never researched or presented hard evidence to support a claim throughout her entire career – a venue to spout her peculiar brand of crazy, undoubtedly knowing that she would, of course, do exactly that. She does in fact unleash that anticipated torrent of crazy, because that's literally all she ever does, and CNN reports it as a controversy worthy of our attention? Talk about a story manufactured from the ground up to get pageviews. Next up on CNN: you won't BELIEVE what this stray dog did when we poked it with a stick!

When you're an idiot and you can't find anything g constructive to say Michelle Bachmann you attack the POTUS personally. It goes right along with you bigots theory that he's not American and he shouldn't be the President. He is I hope you get convicted of stealing campaign funds...40 votes to defund the Affordable Care Act and ZERO cites for jobs...

After making a statement like this, Mrs. Backmann should be made 'persona non grata' at the White House.

It is so frustrating to watch Michelle Bachmann talk, make her points, and then refuse to allow anyone else to talk. Do not know why she is given airtime. Oh, yeah, people watch it.

The only thing Bachmann has going for is that the extreme right wing and Tea party extremist love to hear her ridiculous sound bites that always lack facts or common sense.

And why is she still speaking? People quit listening quite some time ago.
