Michele Bachmann: Obama ‘used to being George III’

Washington (CNN) – Tea party firebrand Rep. Michele Bachmann was unabashed in her criticism of Obamacare and the president it’s named for Thursday night, comparing President Barack Obama with a British tyrant.

“He’s used to being George III,” the Minnesota Republican said of what she described as the president’s refusal to negotiate with Congressional Republicans over the continuing resolution to fund the government.

George III was king of England during the American Revolution.

Bachmann was debating the topics of Obamacare and the Republican plan to defund it on CNN’s “Crossfire” with Rep. Charles Rangel, D-New York.

In a heated exchange, the two displayed some of the fierce contention consuming Congress over the looming federal shutdown threat.

Bachmann continually argued that neither she nor Republicans have any interest in shutting down the government, only in defunding Obamacare by tying it in with a continuing resolution to fund the government. Variations of that plan have been pursued by Congresses of the past in attempts to kill a variety of pieces of legislation, Bachmann said.

Shutting down the federal government is “the last thing we’re going to do,” Bachmann said, pointing out that Obamacare has become an increasingly unpopular law that she and other Republicans consider to be socialized medicine.

Rangel countered that the defund plan is a nonstarter, doomed to fail in the Democrat-controlled Senate. “It’s ridiculous and they know that it can’t be done,” he said.

Republicans want to “kill everything the president stands for,” Rangel said. “That’s not negotiation. That’s putting a gun to the president’s head.”

Rangel argued that Obama in fact got reelected on the issue of Obamacare.

To that Bachmann countered: “And so did I.”

I'll be glad to see the last of this lying woman who is so wrong on everything she says. Michelle Bachmann is a sorry excuse for a woman. She has no concern for other women. She says and does hateful things that come from the right wing extremists who are ready to see our country go down in flames with their debt limit fight and their hateful attitude toward President Obama.

The "hasbeen" Bachmann is much like Wailin Palin ... she never misses an opportunity to insult President Obama. She frequently resorts to outright lies to get herself in the news .... and CNN always lives up to her expectations.

Why do the Republicans resort to name calling? Is it because they don't have an argument to make based on fact?

I'm sure they could dig up some facts on the ACA to prove their point but instead they sensationalize, call names, and avoid any resemblance of an intelligent argument.

It makes them look like children.

If Obamacare is considered "socialized medicine" then I'll gladly take it. Countless analysis have proven that America's present form of healthcare is inferior to most countries offering socialized medicine. Citizens in those countries par far less for healthcare and have a longer life expectancy. Oh, and isn't Social Security a socialist program?

We have not given enough time to Obamacare to know wether it works or not. I'm sure, we need to monitor and adjust as time goes by. It doesn't have to be anything significant that Mr. Obama has done or doing for the Republicans to be against it, as long as it is something that he has accomplished, even if it is a positive thing that benefits the American people, they are against it. I think, Buchmann can't get over the fact that she isn't and will never be in the White House. I doubt she even understand Obamacare. Get a life woman, all that negative energy can't be good for you!

Batty Bachmann needs to follow the tea potty caucus and go away for good. Loose cannon Rapheal Cruz can't defund anything but he loves the money that the Guns Over People tea potty goobers shower him with.

Damn straight Charlie and they have been doing just that since January 2009. If the government is looking for terrorists, look no further than the GOP.

Bachmann is one of the most offensive people I have ever seen. Her idiocy is astounding. Compared to her, Ann Coulter seems like Mother Theresa...and that Sarah Palin could win on jeopardy! She and her husband would be better off sticking with their "gay cure" agendas!

Bachmann barely got elected in a very republican district of MN, while Obama was elected overwhelmingly by 70 million people. She is an embarrassment to our country.

Yes, the President and Bachmann may well have been reelected due to the ACA. The difference is that President Obama was reelected by the entire country, while Bachmann was reelected by one congressional district in Minnesota – a distinction apparently lost on Bachmann.

The tea baggers have been promising to shut down the government for over a year. Now they find out that us not popular with normal people, so they have changed their crazy talk and say they do not want to shut the government down. If the president gives in, the next project for these nut jobs will be to defund the farm bill, or social security, or Medicare, or veteran's administration, etc. as they are also laws of the land.
