Michele Bachmann: Obama ‘used to being George III’

Washington (CNN) – Tea party firebrand Rep. Michele Bachmann was unabashed in her criticism of Obamacare and the president it’s named for Thursday night, comparing President Barack Obama with a British tyrant.

“He’s used to being George III,” the Minnesota Republican said of what she described as the president’s refusal to negotiate with Congressional Republicans over the continuing resolution to fund the government.

George III was king of England during the American Revolution.

Bachmann was debating the topics of Obamacare and the Republican plan to defund it on CNN’s “Crossfire” with Rep. Charles Rangel, D-New York.

In a heated exchange, the two displayed some of the fierce contention consuming Congress over the looming federal shutdown threat.

Bachmann continually argued that neither she nor Republicans have any interest in shutting down the government, only in defunding Obamacare by tying it in with a continuing resolution to fund the government. Variations of that plan have been pursued by Congresses of the past in attempts to kill a variety of pieces of legislation, Bachmann said.

Shutting down the federal government is “the last thing we’re going to do,” Bachmann said, pointing out that Obamacare has become an increasingly unpopular law that she and other Republicans consider to be socialized medicine.

Rangel countered that the defund plan is a nonstarter, doomed to fail in the Democrat-controlled Senate. “It’s ridiculous and they know that it can’t be done,” he said.

Republicans want to “kill everything the president stands for,” Rangel said. “That’s not negotiation. That’s putting a gun to the president’s head.”

Rangel argued that Obama in fact got reelected on the issue of Obamacare.

To that Bachmann countered: “And so did I.”

Yeah, by the skin of your teeth in a gop district. You are on your way out with more garbage than a dumpster attached to you. As the song goes, so long, farewell, good bye. If it does not actually go that way, so long, farewell, goodbye anyways.

Who cares what Michelle Bachmann thinks or says? The deposits my cats leave in their litterbox make more sense.

Funny how the GOP are crying that Obama doesn't want to negotiate, but when when the shoe is on the other foot GOP looks the other way. Hypocrites is all the GOP are. Obama has reached out to GOP on several issues but the Tea Party that runs the House now wanted nothing to do with Obama.

They should probably tell her to just be quiet and try to look pretty, she might gain some popularity that way. Because every time she opens her mouth she reaffirms her stupidity and makes me wonder how in Gods name she ever got elected in the first place.

The extreme right wing of the republican party (tea party) is trying to finish or accomplish what Al Queda couldn't: bring down the gov't by destroying our economy all because of their visceral hatred for President Obama-why; because he's African American. Also, Al Queda must love the NRA as it's doing its dirty work!

We are supposed to believe the lady who advocates shutting down social security, when she says that shutting down the federal government is 'the last thing she wants to do.' No thanks Michele.

Does Michelle Bachmann not know that Obamacare is almost identical to Romneycare which the people of Massachusetts like and it is working well there? Does she not know that many of the ideas in the bill such as individual mandate have Republican roots? Does she not know that the bill passed the House and the Supreme Court says it is legal? Does she not know that the Republicans have spent a lot of wasted time trying to vote against it over 40 times with no success! Does she not know that the poorest states whose people would really benefit from this bill are the red states who require the most government assistance for everything? This issue is illuminating the lack of heart and common sense by the members of the extreme right and could cause the party to implode. They have brought it on themselves.

What part of "the people said 'no' to your policiies when you lost the general election" do these Tea Party extremists not understand? Facts and reality just don't seem to agree with the Tea Party.

Name calling means that you've lost the argument and are trying to distract people from the fact that you've lost. Also, Bachmann is using the tried and true "bait and switch" that conservatives employ so well. In order to get people emotional about one issue, you equate it to another issue that will get them fired up emotionally.

So, the woman who was willing to obtain Swiss citizenship, and who took government loans for her husband's quack reparative therapy clinic, still thinks she has the credibility to talk about any policy issues? We shelled out almost 1 million dollars in salary to this harpie, and for what? A person who compares an elected official to George II, when she probably could barely spell his name, and no significant legislation either proposed or repealed.. The return on investment for her is so low it begs the question as to whether Tea Party favorites avcually believe in accomplishing anything.

Obama and the pope have alot in common. They both have followers who don't have a clue. 2 Timothy 4:1-4 basically says there will come a time when people will elect a leader who will not tell them Biblical truths. Instead they will tell people what they want to hear, especially to get their votes and remain popular with those who don't have a clue

Besides the media, who listens to Michelle Bachmann, anymore? Did anyone bother to ask her about the ongoing investigations against her? Did she turn heel and race walk when you asked, like she did to Dana Bash?

The Republican Party has two major factions, the GOP and the GOTP. Finally, the big brothers and trying to do something about their wild and crazy, little brothers. It sure took them long enough.

Look! It's not one, but TWO ethically challenged people. Of course the liberals will go nuts about Bachmann while ignoring the fact that only one of those two has actually been found guilty of ethics violations. Oh, and that one would be Mr. Rangel.

"Has she been indicted on her ethics charge yet?"

Not yet. But Rangel has actually been found guilty of ethics charges. Interesting how you care to gloss over that fact.

The very body of Law makers that have the best health care in this nation, are trying to take it away from the rest of the nation that are not insured. The Republicans who get the best healthcare paid for by US, the tax payers, are wanting to destroy you getting healthcare. They just passed a bill removing $40 billiion from food stamps that will starve millions in this nation. The Republicans agenda is to take from the middle class and continue to fund the 1% rich people. Our debt has decreased like 50% since 2009 and Republicans do not talk about that. Our national debt is decreasing in record numbers and Republicans will not tell us that. They are using debt issues to take away important programs from the American people. Republicans LIE a lot and often with a straight face. They think we believe them. Defeat Republicans in the next elections to save your lives.
