House GOP launches shutdown battle by voting to defund Obamacare

Washington (CNN) – With one vote on Friday, the Republican-led House launched the latest spending battle in Congress - one that could bring a government shutdown in less than two weeks.

By a 230-189 vote almost strictly on party lines, the House passed a short-term government spending plan that would eliminate all funding for Obamacare.

Only terrorists do this sort of thing. Threaten destruction if they don't get what they want. Only terrorists do this sort of thing.

So does this make it attempt #41 or attempt #42. I've lost count.

I'm sorry, but I have lost what little respect I may have had left for the GOP. Looks like the American Taliban is holding America hostage again. They are toast!!!

The GOP is on a suicide mission which will be completed in November 2014. Boehner, Cantor and the whole bunch of them should be tossed out immediately. Evidently a ruling by the SCOTUS means nothing to them. This has nothing to do with Obamacare – it's their blatant hatred for President Obama – and if anyone thinks that all this is not racially motivated, then they haven't been paying attention.

What else is new. A radical minority blinded by their irrational dogma gets to take center stage prior to the next elections for maximum exposure at any cost.

The Republicans are really playing and voting against the lives of Americans. They just passed a bill to defund Obamacare, yesterday they pass a bill taking $40 billion from food stamps. They really are against the American people. They said this morning they are voting as the people want them too. If you disagree with Republicans defeat them. Vote them out of office. Because in the states and in DC, they are passing bills to starve out the people. They are strangling us with bills they are passing both in states and federal govt.

the constitution gives the power of the purse to the house of representatives, the people's house. the representatives of the american people have spoken, no obamacare funding. everything else is funded. so the question now is when will the democrats and obama shut down the government in a fit of rage in order to punish the american people like they did with the sequester?

What the GOP supporters failed to realize is these are bills that the Congress has already passed that need to be paid. Thats like going to the store charging a bunch of crap on your credit cards, then when the monthly bill shows up you decide your not gonna pay for it after you used the items (wars, tax cuts, etc). That is all this is, Congress never should have approved these bills they know payment would come sooner or later. I guess Cheney was right when he said "deficits dont matter", GOP does not care about paying bills they acquired.

The days of the irresponsible walking into hospitals and getting free care on the backs of those of us who do pay need to stop. It is a vast, hidden tax that no one but hospital accountants voted on. TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION. What are the tea partiers going to do about that? Nothing, maybe because they are getting most of that free care.

"the constitution gives the power of the purse to the house of representatives, the people's house."

Really? Your argument is "screw all the law and procedure, including the Constitution: the Senate and POTUS are supposed to simply obey whatever the House wants in terms of the budget"? Appropriations must ORIGINATE in the House. Use of that word alone implies that they go somewhere else for further process, approval, votes, checks-and-balances, etc. But let's not pay any attention to any of that...who needs truth when we've got mindless talking points to parrot!?!?!?!!!!!
