Obama at Navy Yard memorial: 'We can't accept this'

Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama said Sunday that the United States "can't accept" last week's killing of 12 people at Washington's Navy Yard as "inevitable," but the shooting should instead "lead to some sort of transformation" on gun violence in the United States.

"It ought to be a shock to all of us, as a nation and as a people," Obama said at the Marine Barracks, just a few short blocks from the Navy Yard. "It ought to obsess us. It ought to lead to some sort of transformation."

But sadly we will accept it. It is part and parcel with a new kind of insanity called "normalizing". If the GOTP and the NRA can make mass murder "normal" then there is nothing that can be done about it. We simply accept the murder of all those children, and these people as, well shall we say, a necessary evil. A necessary evil, that is necessary to keep funds rolling into the NRA, weapons manufacturers, and all those high and might politicians who take bribes from them. Hug a lobbyist today.

The President is right- as Americans we can't. From the standpoint of the GOP and the NRA- this is just business as usual. That speaks volumes.

Anything to push gun control. What an idiot, he does realize that the shooter was in a city that has the nation's strictest gun control laws and on a base that was also stripped of it's firearms? Gun control only helps bad guys...

Get used to it happening again and again. The NRA always has an excuse but no solutions that wouldn't add to the deficit or ideas for funding! We live in an increasing state of flux and frustrations of dealing with growth, greed, coping with the trials of life! The truth of the matter is a large number of Americans live on the edge of what is called sane. There are many reasons that might send one over the edge! Firearms are just one instrument to make the statement. The media, lawmakers as well as the critics who only have dime store bandaid solutions sitting in their quarterback chairs pointing fingers at each other as to who's fault in the persons history, past or present to blame. They lack the knowhow or political will to make a real difference in change to truly fixing rather, stir the masses, make believing and achieve nothing. What's the answer? More of the same? When was the last time you heard someone be really overly angry and passionate over someone or something? It may be really out of character of them. Maybe the next psycho? It's too easy living with "heads in the sand" I hear it a lot listening to entertainment news and syndication talk shows! When is enough enough and we come together as a rational society!

Restrictive gun laws are not going to stop the insane. Laws are only effective when rational people weigh the consequences.

Why are you so shocked, President Obama? As a government, there was automatic spending cuts in the wrong places because you all could agree on what needed to be cut. In the end, the military lost some funding so they made cuts in the security.

Since our government blows a trillion dollars of tax payers money, could you not of found just one thing to cut and actually all of the things on your list of wasteful spending needs to be cut.

Gabriel Gifford shot, and fighting for gun control to this day and it's a miracle the lady is even alive to speak about it! Nothing done! She even worked in "Government". Toddlers being shot! Nothing done! Elementary, Middle School, High School, and College students being shot. Nothing done!. Teachers, police, military, veterans, moms, dad, aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers ect... being shot. Nothing done!

Why do feel now is the time, when it's been the time for months if not even years?? How many more innocent people have to die for our "Government to Wake Up".

The real question is what president is it going to take to do something?

It's great as a country that our government Is finally talking gun control, but that does no one any good and saves no lives until you put your plans into action. The more time our government and current president wastes, this is the more lives that could be lost. It doesn't matter whose idea it is, or where it comes from the point is that something needs to be done and you all have the power and authority to do it, so put down the microphone and get off the campaign trail because the election is over and do something about it!!!
