After the Treasury Secretary notified Congress that the nation's borrowing authority runs out in mid-October, House Republican leaders met Wednesday evening to discuss a number of GOP policy priorities they plan to attach to a bill to raise the debt limit.
The draft bill includes several policy priorities the GOP-led House has already passed, and it is still being finalized, according to several Republican aides and members leaving the meeting. The bill is expected to be introduced on Thursday, with a vote on the House floor as soon as Saturday.
House Speaker John Boehner and other top leaders briefed their members last week on plans for the debt bill. Their proposal would include a one year delay of Obamacare, tax reforms, some entitlement reforms, approval of the Keystone XL oil pipeline, and other measures. But there are signs GOP leaders may be running into resistance from conservatives. Some don’t want to authorize any new borrowing; others want to add new items to the measure; and still others question the strategy of taking up the debt bill in the middle of fight over a spending measure and possible government shutdown.
“Why do we want to ask for stuff with the debt ceiling that we might be able to get with the CR ?” Texas Republican Rep Blake Farenthold asked reporters.
President Obama and congressional Democrats have insisted they will not negotiate over legislation to increase the debt ceiling.
"The bill the Republicans propose to put on the floor this week is nothing but a wish list of unrelated and partisan policies they know won't go anywhere. As a result they are taking their country's credit hostage to their own small agenda," Rep Steny Hoyer, D-Maryland, told reporters Wednesday.
Insanity doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results (GOP) Please go away!!!!
this is a nightmare
Their repetitive behaviour on every.thing, Debt, Debt ceiling, and also the absolute refusal to reconcile a budget which drives the two former matters Demonstrates only pure unadulterated Insanity and Lunacy,
I just have to re-post what sniffit said:
"Look at middle-class salary trends over the past 40 years and compare them to the salary trends for management/executive and CEO-level employees. Then, look at the trending graphs for the wealth gap. Then, understand that supply side economics is a LIE and that the biggest thing hampering economic growth and job creation in this country is the redistribution of wealth upwards and the DEMAND VACUUM that it has created. The virtuous cycle has been mercilessly crucified by the right's push for plutocracy over the past half century. THAT is what lies at core of the entire problem."
This is the best summary of the real problem at hand here. If you have been fooled into buying the Republican talking points, then I pity you. Wealth re-distribution is a dirty word to conservatives but lo-and behold, the wealth of the middle class is slowly being "re-distributed" to those who need it the least. Of course rich people can pay for lobbyists and therefore their voices are heard louder than those of us with middle-range income.
It's time for the GOP to go, their obstruction and incompetents begs to be kicked out of office and they will be in 2014 midterms , I've had enough!!!!!!!
GOP – Gimpy Offtrack Psychos.
The repubs outlandish hostage taking of the US economy is unprecedented, all because they cannot get their way. What is the difference between what they are doing and the Muslim extremists save they have yet to resort to violence, maybe that is why they are arming themselves. They are attempting to force their narrow, minority vision on the majority of the population. Typical behavior of the extreme right wing mindset, the Nazis and Al Quaeda come to mind. They state you are either with us or against us. The collective thought mentality cannot endure free thinking nor individual self expression. Then add the bigotry, racism and sexism and oh what a witches brew of insanity that they have concocted. The founding fathers estabished protocols for enacting a party's agenda, elections. So if they wish to enact their agenda all they simply have to do is win elections. Not gerrymandered district elections, but Senatorial and Presidential elections, you know statewide and national federal elections. Last I checked they lost in 2012, their agenda rejected by the majority of the populace, but they refuse to acknowledge this fact, elections have consequences, how delusional they are living in their little bubble. They claim they are doing the will of the people, but the people they refer to are all part of the same echo chamber, the same collective, remember the polls are skewed and Romney will win in a landslide, yeah right, so delusinal that it and they are totally pathetic.
