Spanish-language online health care enrollment starts later

Washington (CNN) - The White House said Thursday that its Spanish-language health care enrollment tools will not be ready to launch until three weeks after the start of registration on Tuesday.

Administration officials explained there will be Spanish-language speakers on the government's help line beginning on the first day of open enrollment, but the site CuidadodeSalud.gov, will not allow Spanish speakers to compare insurance plans and enroll entirely in Spanish until the week of October 21.

Republican divisions force delay in Boehner's debt strategy

Washington (CNN) - House Republican leaders were forced on Thursday to delay rolling out their bill to raise nation's debt limit, after conservatives complained the package failed to include deep enough budget cuts and significant changes to entitlement programs.

The setback comes as Speaker John Boehner prepares to wrestle with his conference over how to ultimately handle short term spending and the prospect of a government shutdown beginning on Tuesday, if Congress does not act to refill federal coffers.

Rep. King: Cruz supporters making 'vile, obscene' phone calls

Washington (CNN) – Rep. Peter King, who called fellow Republican Ted Cruz a 'fraud,' said his office is now receiving threatening phone calls from people who say they're supporters of the Texas senator.

"You can't always blame a person if his followers act in a terrible way," King said on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer." However, he expressed concern about the "vile, obscene" nature of the phone calls.

Pfeiffer: WH is not ‘negotiating with people with a bomb strapped to their chest’

(CNN) - Treasury Secretary Jack Lew said a U.S. debt default could be catastrophic. But President Barack Obama said Thursday he will not "not negotiate on anything when it comes to the full faith and credit of the United States of America." That is, no negotiating with Republicans.

Yet, the American people support, by a two-to-one margin, a requirement for spending cuts when negotiating more borrowing authority for the government to pay its bills, according to a new Bloomberg News poll.

Obamacare online enrollment delay for small business

Washington (CNN) - Online enrollment and other Web features for the Obamacare health marketplace for small businesses will be delayed for a month, officials said on Thursday.

Small businesses looking for a plan to offer employees will be able to start using the Small Business Health Option Program on October 1.

Ted Cruz joins WH protest for detained American pastor in Iran

Washington (CNN ) - Sen. Ted Cruz joined about 20 protesters and members of different Christian churches outside the White House Thursday to pray for the swift return of an American pastor being held in Iran, reportedly for his Christian beliefs.

Pastor Saeed Abedini has been held in Iran and Thursday marked the one year anniversary of his detention.

The Democrat, who gained national fame after her 13-hour filibuster over a controversial abortion bill, was already scheduled to make an announcement about her political future on October 3.
