Rep. King: Cruz supporters making 'vile, obscene' phone calls

Washington (CNN) – Rep. Peter King, who called fellow Republican Ted Cruz a 'fraud,' said his office is now receiving threatening phone calls from people who say they're supporters of the Texas senator.

"You can't always blame a person if his followers act in a terrible way," King said on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer." However, he expressed concern about the "vile, obscene" nature of the phone calls.

"I have young women, women interns, full-timers, in their late teens, early 20s, and they get these phone calls," he continued. He did not elaborate on how many calls were received.

Rep. King on defund plan: 'Custer, Kamikaze'

King of New York has not been shy about his feelings toward the freshman lawmaker, who's spearheading an effort to defund Obamacare in a spending bill that must pass by Monday night to avert a government shutdown.

On Friday, King said he hoped the current showdown on Capitol Hill will let "people know that Ted Cruz is a fraud, and he'll no longer have any influence in the Republican Party."

King made his comments before Cruz launched his marathon speech on the Senate floor this week, which won both acclaim and criticism from Republicans.

The congressman reiterated on Thursday that he doesn't think the phone calls are Cruz's fault, but argued that "he's tapping into something out there which is mean and ugly."

Cruz's office declined to comment on King's remarks.

  1. What's in that tea anyway?

So unfortunate even the moderate/sane GOP congress members and this country at large has to stomach this mess called the Tea Party. Civility, respectful discussions, negotiations and tolerance are words these people would be challenged to spell let alone practice. Its useless and unproductive anger, because at the backend of their arguments, ranting and raving, one never finds ideas or solutions...just references to Hitler, socialism, muslim blah, blah, its like the bullies we all had in high school. So moderate Republicans / GOP members, when you dance with stinky stuff, eventually you and your whole party just ends up smelling foul.

People are passionate about the hell this administration is putting us through.

So yes, we are very vocal about our dismay with those who are shafting them.

The worst 'Job Killing' law ever enacted seems to be the ACA.

We're losing the gains that our labor unions fought for: 40 hour work weeks, fair pay, safe working conditions (Over worked now with multiple part-time jobs.), and work benefits. The union bosses have become the foremen of Uncle Sam's Plantation.

Terrorist's you say. If these individuals are know as the perpetrators, have them jailed. Maybe that'd clear up many of the problems we have in the nation.

I would like to hear the wording of these calls. If they are profane, they should be exposed to show the classless following of Mr Kruz.

This is the true face of the Tea Party. They have nothing to offer but negativity. It's no wonder that their approval rating is about half of the President's.

With any luck, Ted Cruz is going to be a relic of a bygone era that lasted too long to begin with: the days of Tea Party influence. They claim to want to take America "back," but they only take it backward. The minimalist system of government they envision has never existed in America's history, only in their hallucinatory fever dreams.

What do you expect from tea party supporters, logical, decent argumentation of their beliefs and causes? NO! They ARE vile disgusting people who are too uneducated and immature to articulate their cause without sinking into playground bully tactics. But lets not stop with the tea trolls – there are enough Republican supporters that are just as bad. I know that some liberals can be annoying and fiesty, but the vitriol of the right is at a breeaking point because they haven't been getting what THEY want because THEY don't control the senate and WH. Tantrum children need to be sent to time out.

AMERICA..we are on the road of SELF-DESTRUCTION that was So-o-o-o-o easy to avoid. You have a very volatile combination here.
.... 1) A group of Americans (about 10 -15%) who literally hate President Obama for reasons other than his policies.
.....2) A group of Republicans who seriously want to make the government as SMALL as possible, even if it hurts/devastates the working poor. (about 10-15%).
.....3) This 30% feels they are SAVING America and even thought the represent a minority of the populace they are willing to drag the nation through this funding the government and debt ceiling fiasco!!!
What we are seeing here REGARDLESS of who is President, is an effort by the minority group to FORCE the majority to agree to things at the WRONG TIME and WRONG WAY!!! The shutdown is probably going to happen over the funding. Believe me NONE of us who understand the markets should ALLOW the congress not to raise the debt ceiling. The impact of this action will be SIGNIFICANTLY BAD and EVERY retirement fund in America will take a huge lost when the Dow drops about 1000 to 1500 points.
