Shift in policy? Phone call between Obama, Rouhani

Washington (CNN) - President Barack Obama spoke by telephone with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, the first direct conversation between leaders of the United States and Iran since 1979.

Obama believes a comprehensive agreement is possible regarding Iran's nuclear ambitions, telling reporters at the White House that "the test will be meaningful, transparent and verifiable action" and if proven would ease international sanctions in place against Iran.

    I read that Obama open to "making specific changes" to Obamacare but not gutting it.

    Wow, the emperor has finally conceded to the fact that Obamacare is an abysmal nightmare of a law that needs major revision. I'm betting we will get a one year delay of the individual mandate. But then again, let it be implemented on October 1st so Obama and the Democrats can really own this abortion. That will be bad news for the Democrats in the November 2014 elections.

    @Nini,

    According to this little piece, "Obama also said he believed a comprehensive agreement was possible regarding Iran's nuclear ambitions"

    How is freedom getting crushed? If Iran can be convinced to not develop nuclear weapons, then it's a better world. As far as Neda goes, take that up with Ahmadinejad.

    ARE YOU KIDDING? Obama has to go to Iran to find new friends? They are creating nuclear weapons and he wants to cut back on the sanctions?? This guy has absolutely no idea what he is doing! I guess negotiating with terrorists is what you do when you completely lose face and credibility after Syria, Benghazi, IRS, the Associated Press, bringing this country to another government shutdown threat, unbelievably high Debt, Record Food stamp usage, lowest job participation rate since 1978, high poverty rate, Obamacare, and the list continues to grow. Does he really believe this country trusts him? What a joke. It’ll be nice when the US has a President again, but unfortunately there may be nothing left.

    Hey maybe you're right. Let's try it and see. Tell your heroes in Congress to stop trying to defund Obamacare and let the Democrats "suffer the consequences". I wonder why they don't try that? Hmmmm!

    Sniffit! Where are you! I'm getting tired!

    Not surprising... Obama has always had a better relationship with America's enemies than he has had with our allies. Israel better be alert because it looks like the Obama bus is heading their way.

    What has Iran given us for this honor? Likely nothing. Obama again turns the hand of the the most powerful country on the planet into a limp hand shake with a bunch of terrorists. The Iranians have been Putin play Obama like a cheap fiddle so now they think it is their turn to humiliate the community organizer.

    @just sayin and He told him:

    The mere fact that you two, and all like you, can't even keep your thoughts civil about a possible agreement with
    Iran just proves how deep you have let your hate take over.
    The fact that we might have a chance to keep Israel safe, and America for that matter, by avoiding having to
    attack Iran is extremely good news.
    So, you are what you are, and you are not much.

    So naïve to think that Iran will stop its nuclear program, it is laughable, What about the people of Iran? People still matter you know. What about human rights?
    Today we stand with the mullah’s of Iran who are number one producers and supporter of terrorism in the world.
    Neda wasn't only about Ahmadinejad, it was the government of Iran and the supreme leader. People were chanting freedom.

    I'd say this president isn't the Aussie most think he is. seems like those five warships got the enemies to thinking. maybe they had better think twice about threatening the Black guy from the streets of Chicago. seems the GOP need to get the message too since they lost twice. their party is so divided Obama only has to sit back and watch them self destruct. poor boehner.

    Except that it is apparently easier to meet with and work with Iranians... than say the TEA Party crowd. Meanwhile, I doubt it has occured to you that Israel's security is directly tied to Iran right?If Iran does away with its nuclear ambitions, Israel's safety is much more certain.

    Would Obama speak with Hitler too? We must not lose our eyes on the fact that the real person behind the regime is Khamanei and that the regime in Iran is an anti-American, anti-Semitic Islamofascist theocratic regime that terrorizes the Iranian people through sheer terror and tyranny. I guess we must give this diplomacy a chance to prove that we have exhausted all efforts but we must remember that the regime in Iran is one that is guided by an apocalyptic ideology in the "return of the hidden imam"; and is one in which women have been stoned to death, young girls are raped before being executed through temporary marriages so that they don't "die as virgins" as "virgins go straight to heaven", limbs are chopped off and other forms of savage and primitive Islamic law is instituted upon the population. This is a regime that is guided not by reason but by Shiite Islamofascism. We must remember this. The regime in Iran is the single most dangerous threat to U.S. national security, to the security of the world, and to the basic human rights and aspirations of the Iranian people.

    @Nini,

    "So naïve to think that Iran will stop its nuclear program, it is laughable,"

    Well, Obama said, "the test will be meaningful transparent and verifiable action" - which means UN inspections. Not laughable; that's progress.

    "What about human rights?"

    What about 'em? Iranians will have to fight for them. Like everyone else has for millennia. Don't expect the United States to give it to them - it's frankly none of our business how they run things there, as long as global security isn't compromised by their actions.

    "Today we stand with the mullah’s of Iran"

    No we're not. We're trying to negotiate a settlement with Iran to curb any ambitions to develop nuclear weapons. We're standing with the human race.
