Defiant House delays Obamacare; government shutdown looms

Washington (CNN) - Less than 48 hours before a shutdown of the federal government would begin, House Republican leaders remained defiant in their effort to chip away at Obamacare - with one member of the House GOP leadership insisting the House will continue its effort to undermine the health care law and another faulting the Democratically controlled Senate for not working on Sunday.

In a move that makes a shutdown appear very likely, House Republicans approved a spending plan early Sunday morning that would delay Obamacare for a year and repeal its tax on medical devices.

Back and forth, back and forth. We voted for President Obama last November, not Mitt.
    We want the ACA.

I can't remember the last time the House of Representatives collectively thumbed their noses at America in such a contemptuous manner as they have been doing this past 5 years. It is time for Wall Street to step up to the plate and remind these political amateurs just who runs America. Another market crash so soon after the last crash is not in the best interest of Wall Street. If Wall Street thinks the teapers are on their side, Wall Street has some serious issues that need addressing. For as much as teapers hate government, they equally hate corporate control. The Koch brothers have managed to keep that little secret under their teaper hats long enough to fool Wall Street. Should Boehner succeed in letting the genie of discontent out full blast, it will be catastrophic for both government and Wall Street. Teapers are not people who reason well or utilize critical thinking skills to any degree of intelligence. Once they grasp how duped they have been by the GOP, it is going to get very ugly very fast. Better to cut them loose now before the 2014 election.

Obama says you can keep your current doctor......what if your current doctor decides not to keep you because of all the red tape and misunderstanding and paperwork????

"Defiant House..." More accurate headline "Suicidal House Delays Obamacare..." This is just more of their "Green Eggs & Ham" mentality.

No deals ! Let the government shut down. Maybe then these Republicans will understand how much hate they continue to bring down on themselves. They only deal in blackmail ( or try to ) They only think of themselves and their rich friends.

I don't know. Maybe we do need another world depression to remind people just how awful things CAN get when our government loses it credibility one step at a time. Let's see how the wealthiest among us react when they lose what is most important to them. Our poor are so poor now it won't be they who lose out. They've already lost it all. The middle class? They've lost their pensions, their wages, their homes, their dignity. Let's see how the wealthy react when they are forced to live within their own expectations by being forced to crawl through GOP dung to remake themselves in their own image. These are the people that live, breathe, and sleep with their 401k tucked safely under their pillows. Take that financial folder away from them and let's see how THEY react. Take their healthcare away from them and see how THEY react. As for the basement bloggers? Once they are made to understand mom and pop can no longer afford to feed them, let's see if the Koch brothers come to the rescue and open up soup kitchens for them to run to whenever they need a slice of pizza or a Mac and Don quarter pounder. We were nearly at this point in 2008. Too bad Mr. Obama didn't allow things to get worse. I do believe America would have been much better off had he allowed a depression to set in. Every once in awhile it is good to watch the wealthiest among us suffer the consequence of their own greed. God knows, the rest of us have suffered enough because of it. How did Ann Romney state it? "It is their time now". So, yes, shut it down John Boehner. It IS their time now.

You poor republicans are being duped beyond belief. Your politicians are toying with your ignorance. Ask yourself, "do I really know the facts regarding the ACA or do I only know what I've heard from my "news" source". Then google ACA facts and myths. Then compare the facts to what YOUR "news" and politicians are telling you. You can do this while all alone, no one will have to know you are actually using your brain and doing some research. Then call your congressman and tell him/her to stop this nonsense. Or continue to be a typical right wing sheep! For your own sake, since you don't care about others!

Just thinking that this guy has two girls makes my brain explode!! No delays. Many need to,pay less for medical insurance NOW not in one year.
He doesn't care about polls, he has no ideas and he's blaming the senate for the shutdown.
He doesn't even get the fact that even his crazy rethugs don't want a shut down.
He sounds like the screecher, I am not kidding. Except he sounds educated.
The teatards, no ideas, no guts, just taking up if space and oxygen from others who need it the most.

  14. Dear America,

The average citizen needs to educate themselves on how this all works. At the end of the day the President has the authority so say, fine, shut it all down, oh except the specific parts funding ACA. He isn't threatening that at all. The Republic party, more than ever before, has gotten so wrapped up in trying to make a point that they are failing to represent the people. We are diverse in every way and Congress as a whole needs to get their act together or get out.

When people say that the Left won't negotiate with the Right, I present you Hector...

See how fast reality changes for these people? 2 months ago and longer, the TEA Party was calling to crash the government, and here it is- and now it's the Left that has caused this?

The Right clearly needs drug-testing and intervention. They haven't made any sense since The President's first win, and since his second they have been utterly insane.

The Right has a suicide pact because of people like Hector... I think we should let 'em go.

I thought that the congress had to swear ,, on a BIBLE ... .. to thier CHRISTIAN God, that they spout to Love so much ... that they would UPHOLD the Laws of the United States Constituion .... which includes the Law known as the Affordable Care Act .. which hos now been in force for it's FOURTH YEAR !!!! so my question is simple.. why aren't the republicans being held for Treason against the nation for not following thier SWORN DUTY and for intentionally tossing the US and World economy into a self inflicted economic catastrophe ... in other words, if these clowns hate our couintry and government SO much, why don't they get the Hell out of MY COUNTRY .... and move to china,

The Republicans need to come to their senses. The ACA is settled law- even surviving a Supreme Court challenge. It is more than 4 years old, and it isn't going away. Their lies about the ACA have been revealed, their campaign against it pointless. If they wish to die on that cross- fighting to overturn a duly created law- that's their business. But they ought to be honest enough to proclaim that such action means they stand utterly opposed to the Constitution, and our democratic way of life.
The GOP is a cadre of small-minded, hyper-radical nihilists. Nothing more, nothing less. They like their corporate insanity and their political chaos and wish to force it on us all.

    Just say "no".

The House passed the bill twice now with the second time delaying Obamacare. Excellent and brilliant House of Reps. by allowing all Americans a chance to see what they are actually buying with their hard earned money. If the Senate or President Obama veto this bill then they will be the ones shutting down the Government. Seriously would you go out and buy a home with a life time of payments without 1st checking out the neighborhood, the condition of the home or the schools and crime rate. If you do then they have homes in Detroit for sale for $250,000.00 each sitting their waiting for fools like you. Then who you going to blame?

The GOP needs to show up on Capital Hill dressed like the 300 Spartans. In a few days they are going to end up like the 300, and tales of their legendary fight will be told for another 1000 days.
The GOP is too dumb to realize that Obama is going to come up smelling like roses.

The senate needs to make a change to their spending plan. They need to attach as part of the plan, a reversal of all gun laws, even though about half the country would disagree. You know, a threat. They should demand that all gun purchases for the next year be illegal. Using the rights logic, the House would then be responsible for a government shutdown. But the senate has no threats attached to their spending plan, because they don't want the govt to shut down. Can we say the same about the House (republicans)? Wake up Fox "spews" sheep!
