From a furloughed worker: thank you congress for what should have been job security. Except, since you can't come to an agreement, not over the budget but over the ACA, I am now essentially jobless and national security is compromised! Good job. Now I 1) can't support my family, 2) don't feel safe. Good job, you screwed your own country!

The amount of energy the Republicans have put into blocking the AHCA, couldve been used to actually draft their solution to it. Instead.. No Gov funding, and STILL no alternative solution to Health Care.

In truth, Americans are WILDLY supportive of Obamacare ... just so long as they consider its components without the fog of politics, hyperbole, lies & smears:

    (per Kaiser poll:)
+ 57% approve of the employer mandate
+ 66% approve of banning exclusions on preexisting conditions
+ 71% approve of expanding medicaid
+ 76% approve of covering children/dependents up to age 26
+ 81% approve of closing the Medicare drug benefit doughnut hole
+ and a whopping 88% (!!!) approve of tax credits for small businesses

    So please:
    OBAMACARE
= is based on a REPUBLICAN plan
= was widely debated from the 2008 Democratic primaries through this moment
= was passed by both houses of congress
= was signed into law by the president
= was approved by the Supreme Court
= was given broad support by the public who TWICE voted Obama into office, with the ACA as his signature legislation
= is the law of the land
= and enjoys massive public support, whether the public realizes it or not

We rank 38th - 38TH!!! - in the world for health care! That's pathetic! To grant 15% of the population all these great qualities, using private insurance companies, based on a Republican plan .... well, it's a slam dunk.

PLEASE, banana-Republicans, GET OUT OF THE WAY. YOU LOST. MOVE ON. If you want to end Obamacare, win back both houses of congress & the presidency; do it the old fashioned AMERICAN, DEMOCRATIC, CONSTITUTIONALLY crafted way. Don't try to hold the US Government & economy hostage. You're only hurting the country ... and yourselves.

Government by Extortion CANNOT be allowed to succeed.

This is no longer about Obamacare, the President, the Senate, or the House. It stopped being about them the minute the House chose to shut down the government to advance a legislative agenda they could not advance through the normal process.

This is now about the founding processes upon which the functioning of our government were built. In order to pass legislation, or change legislation, it must pass BOTH houses of congress and be signed by the President. Since the Republicans could not do this they have shut down the government and demanded that THEIR legislative agenda is approved as a condition to allowing the government to resume.

It is lunacy and if not stopped will create the precedent that every time a party wishes to advance an agenda they couldn't because of lack of control they just need to wait until the bill to fund the government and then withhold their support till they get their way. In short, government by extortion.

For the next crisis will the Democratic Senate demand tighter gun control as a condition of funding the government? Or maybe they'll demand raising the minimum wage? How about they demand restoring the provisions in the Voting Rights act?

Government by extortion is lunacy and CANNOT be allowed to succeed!

It really doesn't matter which party these elected officials belong to, if they worked in the business world, they would all be fired for not completing the job they were hired to do. They never work as a team and NEVER meet set deadlines. All they do is try to figure out what makes them look better. They are elected to be the one voice of the individuals who elected them, but it always boils down to their "look at me" attitude.

I just saw and heard cantor from VA lying about how bad he feels about the shutdown, blah, blah, blah.
If there is a god out there somewhere how about another bigger, more powerful this time, earthquake in his district area. I want him to tell his constituents that FEMA can't help them because not only doesn't he want to give money for other areas that have been hit by natural disaster ever but he is instrumental in shutting down the government and FEMA can't help them.

Can I go through my daily life and ignore laws I dont like? Can I not pay my taxes until the city, county and school district behave just the way I want them to? ObamaCare is law. The House of Representatives is becoming a house of Seceedist. They would rather tear the country apart than find out what is actually wrong with ObamaCare and fix it.

Congress needs to grow up and STOP the pissing contest. Until they are paid like the rest of us, insured like the rest of us and retirement funded like the rest of us, they will continue their own entitlements.
