If the Gov't shuts down tomorrow, more Gov't employees will still be at work than on a typical Saturday or Sunday. The Gov't never really shuts down.

The Republicans in the House of Representatives are shutting down the government–NOT the POTUS and NOT the House/Senate Democrats. The Affordable Healthcare Act is the will of the People. The POTUS won re-election on this platform. The Republican Party is allowing the "inmates to run the prison." The Tea Baggers are holding the Party hostage. It's embarrassing to watch really. And to potentially set the already fragile US economy back because of partisan politics is shameful. Republicans will pay heavily at the voting booth for this publicity stunt; mark my words.

Well when the GOP started the debate by threatening "Shutdown" who else did you think is going to get the blame?

Every single one of the Republican Representatives in the House should be brought up on charges of treason. They are nothing but a bunch of domestic terrorists. Gitmo would be too good for them.

So said to see just anoter stump speach from the president at a time when we need actual leader ship. SO many lies it's not even funny. He actually said the american public had a chance to vote on the affordable health care act....really?? when did this happen. Also how is the house holding things up when they passed a budget before the senate which the senate disappeoved. Yet for some reason the POTUS thinks this is ok but if the house doesn't pass the senates bill it's the house's fault...seriously???? Funny the house was in session ALL weekend trying to find a solution while the potus and the senate were no shows. And you folks actually think the rebuplicans are the problem???? For the love of god PAY ATTENTION to what is actually happening instead of blindly following a praty people

Is there a red line for this too? Republicans should stand tall and wait for him to give in. Russia and Syria cracked him with little effort.

Apparently the President believes that he can ignore the People.
The House is more Representative of the will of the People than the Executive Branch or the Senate.

An outrageously arrogant guy who has ZERO business experience is telling everyone that this horrible healthcare program is the best since sliced bread. Mr. Obama and Mr. Read and all of you Liberal bandwageners who are supporting this communist endeavor; If this is such a great Idea, how come the White House, including the President and Moochella, staff, Senate, and Congress are exempt?????????????????

You know the real problem is us as the people, we keep putting up with these guys day after day, and not a one of them live like the common american. The lowest paid congress man is 175000. a year there's 385 of them , now if we were to lay off about 2/3 of them , don't you think the others would get their crap together. They get paid regardless and don't live on a shoe string budget like most of us, remember this at election time, Take time to look at the progress they have made for us, the people.

Well put Mr. President. America elected you, and you have our mandate to propose good laws.

I like Affordable Health Care, providing care for 40 million Americans priced out by Big Insurance.

Congress liked Affordable Health Care, and passed it.

That is how laws work here in America. The Tea Party reminds us of some other religious jihadists ...

What do we as American citizens do to say enough is enough? These people (and I mean Dem's and Rep's) are supposed to be acting on our behalf, yet they are willing to furlough many of our fellow countrymen with no accountability for their actions. And all they while they will continue to receive their paychecks. I just watched the POTUS on TV and all I heard was blame! We need a change!

Maybe we should write into this bill to make the Republican party illegal so we can have our economy back.

"Avoiding shutdown is simple: Democrats just have to quit acting like dictatorial jerks."

How are they acting like dictatorial jerks? No really...please explain that in detail citing facts. The entire Senate, controlled by the Dems, voted democratically on what the House gave them and it couldn't pass the Senate. The GOP says "tough, you have to do as we tell you" and insists that the Senate has to pass what the House wants or the gov't shuts down because the House GOP/Teatrolls refuse to allow a vote in the House on a clean bill.

Reality: Nobody is acting like dictators here. Rather, the Senate has voted democratically and followed its procedures and the House GOP/Teatrolls are trying to extort the Senate and the rest of the country.

HMMMM? Shutting down the Federal Government during a declared wartime might be illegal, it sure is one heck of a stupid move.

Let the Repubs put another nail in their political coffin. Despite what some of these hard heads are saying on here...the facts are that the American people, repubs, dems and Indies, will place this blame where it lies in reality...on Republicans and their cowtowing to the Tea party nut jobs. So, carry on Repubs. You've alienated women, minorities, a good portion of just everyday Americans...and now you'll drive just one more wedge into the hearts of good and decent people just for political gamesmanship. But I say bring it on! I love it. And you won't have to worry about being primaried...at least not by a Tea Party Repub...but a moderate Repub. Watch the next election cycle...nothing but Dems and moderate Repubs will get elected! It's about time so carry on boys and girls!...and maybe they'll have a commentator spot for you on Fox News...of course if you're female you'll need to be as dittzy as can be and preferably attractive blonde with big kahunas! ha! Sell on Tea Bags!

How many dozens of times have the Tea Party terrorists tried to end the Affordable Care Act? 40 times 45? or more? lol.
Remember the definition of insanity is doing the same thing again and again with the same results while expecting something different. The financial terrorists in what use to be the Republican Party fit the definition of insanity. Not that we ever thought anything different of them. lol. Watch now as they crash and burn yet again, but this time they take down all of the conservative movement so highly paid by the Koch brothers in the process. This is beautiful indeed!

If the health care reform passes, which it will, Obama will go down in history either as one of the greatest or one of the worst president ever elected. My mother is now 59 and work 365 days a year literally, and she surely wont be able to afford the hospital in the case of an emergency, like so many others in america. So my opinion is that this law will help many people in america
