Why is it federal employees won't get a check but yet Congress still gets there money?? Seems fair right? Not! I say stop arguing and blaming and solve the problem! Senators and Congress are suppose to be the voice of the ppl !! We sure did not voice for you to shut down and hold our checks! How are the middle class and poor suppose to survive, pay bills! Still have to work for free? How are we to get to work with no gas money? Feed our children no money! I think all of Congress and Senators are selfish and do not care about the ppl at all!

Budget Committee Chair Van Hollen gave a great summary when the Dems came out to discuss the probable shut down. Both the House and the Senate passed budgets 6 months ago. Unfortunately, the House refused to ever name conferees to bridge the differences. Now, my take. At the 11th hour, the House wants a conference. The Republicans orchestrated the shut down to apply pressure to get what they want, outside of normal legislative means. They brought this on. I am not a big fan of the Affordable Care Act, but it is the law. If the Republicans want changes, pass legislation that is specific to issues in the law (and if they take revenue out, as in killing the individual mandate or medical device tax, then find a way to replace the funding, because there is no free lunch). Shutting down the government is a tantrum, tied to an attempt to extort what they want. Time for them to take a time out.

It is not just the House of Representatives and Senator that should take a lost in pay for the government shutdown, The President and Vice President should take a list in pay while the government is shutdown. They all shutdown the government, by not talking to negotiate a work out an agreement.

Congress should forfeit all their pay to the government for non-performance of their jobs. Send them all home because they can not solve anything because they can't even get along like human beings.

Like Senator Cruz said last week "I do not like green eggs and ham"...... But at the end of that story HE LIKES IT!!!! He never tried it so how could he know ifn its good or not!! They do not want it implementes for fear that everyone will like it and it wasn't their bill. We need to recall every single politician in Washington just like they recalled the politicians in Colorado. The people are tired of the lack of compromise in both the house, senate, and congress. It's time for the people to rise up and put an end to this Washington mess. I hope Obama stays the course, I believe he is doing what the majority wants him to do and that's why he was re-elected. Recall, Recall, Recall!!!!!

  14. A working class American

Quit saying that Americans didn't want the affordable care act. We're not all selfish Republicans. Last time I checked President Obama not only one the Electoral College but also the popular vote. It's such a shame that cause of you Tea baggers the greatest government in the world has shut down. Was it to appease your big money interests in the insurance industry or is it that your big fat wallets carry more weight in your personal gain rather than the greater good of this great country. The working class is on to you and believe me there are 99% more of us than you. So to the Republicans/Tea baggers I'll just say thank you for putting the final nail in your selfish coffins. The working man and woman are on the rise and comeback in this country. I guess you could always try to take away our voting rights...,you know like with minorities, the seniors, our troops and our college students. Oh yeah your trying that cause you realized that the poor and working class are wise to your untruthfulness. You also realized by pulling these unconstitutional stunts was the only way you could stop the reall majority of the reall America from stoping you selfish greedy one ways from reaching the Whitehouse. Your worst fears are here....us know bodies actually know bull when we hear and see it. GOP your out of here!!!

"Nothing can happen to us you see we are data driven and we can sniff it every home in America and a broad and get away with it" now time has come to ask for grace! The grace you spit on remember?

Unbelievable......So how did the conversation go????? Obama won the election, the law passed, the supreme court confirmed it.....I know we wont fund the government and they will have to do what we want.......What is going on???? Unacceptable and Insane

Its this simple. Polls can easily be manipulated to get any numbers you want and their samples are very small. An election trumps all polls. Two candidates ran for president. One for the ACA and the other wanted to repeal it. We all know who lost... This shut down is just more sabotage by the GOP radicals. They want to keep our economy weak so that they can try to pin it on the president again.

If people would get together a protest this so called government of ours, then the ones that was voted in by the people would do something that would benefit us. Tell them that if they can not do the job they were elected for, that with this shutdown they should not get paid instead of the ones that need their jobs. We really need to vote in new people who will really work for the people. Those have plenty of money and they can do without for now.

    From huff post:

"Reporters tweeted Monday night that they could smell booze on the lawmakers working to strike a last-minute spending deal on Capitol Hill"

And a Tweet from "Jennifer Bendery", whoever that is:

"About every other House lawmaker I just talked to smelled like booze. It's only 9pm. Wheeee!"
