"Why do you and so many more expect to get a free ride when it comes to supporting the operation of this country?"

Aaaw, how cute...another example of GOP/Teatroll projection. In this case, a projection of their own selfish, self-centered, greedy behavior. See, they assume that the only people who support helping the poor, the destitute, the hungry, the disabled, the elderly, i.e., the vast vast majority of the "47%", must be someone who also "pays no taxes" and is "a moocher who sucks from the gov't teat." Why? Because they assume that the only reason someone would support those programs is someone who benefits from those programs...and that anyone who doesn't would properly hate those programs because they represent money out of their pocket that goes to someone else. The concepts of altruism and the social contract simply never ever occur to them.

The GOP needs to get honest real fast.
    1. Not raising the federal spending limit will not save a single dime. In fact it will cost us all way more in the inevitable increase in borrowing rates. Also- there is no logical link between the debt ceiling increase (which went up 17 times unhindered under Reagan), and the ACA.
    2. Causing the government to go into shut down will not impact the ACA in any meaningful way- social services are deemed "essential"- so just like granny's SS check, that will simply keep on going.
3 The GOP cares not for the debt and deficit- both will go up if the ACA is taken out of the picture, and 35 million will lose access to health care, never mind the 800,000 who instantly lose their incomes.
    4. The GOP has no interest in fixing Health Care in America- they have offered no plan to deal with shyrocketing costs, and they offer no fix for the ACA- they just want it gone.
    5. It isn't the Dems who won't "negotiate", it is the radical TEA Party tail wagging the GOP dog. No one is even talking to the Dems. at this point.
Finally- The GOP has wanted a government shut down for ages. They claim not, yet everything they do causes one. They are anti-American terrorists- nothing more.

Obama needs to learn how to Compromise!
He is a hypocrite – telling republicans to compromise when I haven't seen him even be willing to compromise!

IMO, those that pay nothing should have no say and especially have no say in forcing others to pay for them and their free ride.
    ______________________________
Two points Donna- No one gets a free ride- that's just another GOP myth. When you factor sales tax, gas tax, renter's tax an so on the poor pay a higher percentage than the rich- get it? Second, we no longer base voting rights on property or land. Nice try to give our nation and our democracy away to the rich!
    --–

Why do you continue to lie when you KNOW 47% of the people in this country pay NO FEDERAL INCOME TAXES? I am not the one saying that, it is the IRS saying that. There are no exemptions to these other taxes so everybody pays them. Why are 47% of the American people exempt from paying federal income tax? They ARE TAX FREE RIDERS that everybody else must make up for.

Don't claim Obamacare was needed because of healthcare free riders (far far fewer) when 47% are free riding the federal income tax system while our country piles trillions in debt on our kids and grand kids. Those 47% are thieves stealing our kids future and their earnings so they can take and take now. It is the leftist union take and destroy mentality in action.

Shut it down. While they are at it make sure that the GOP/TP Klan lose their pay just like the other folks. Bye Bye GOP. Hope they shut it down before the TP Klan can receive their government checks. Yes I am talking about you TP people because you believe everything the GOP tells you instead of learning for yourselves. Cruz does not even understand how government is ran, his followers voted for him because he hates the black president just like they do or even more. You know they are getting a government check, whick is their problem because they don't want anyone else getting one. Remember the slogan take our country back!!!!!!!!!!!! That was a racist dog whistle and they alll fell in step.

Ha ha ha...isn't it funny how some define greed as someone wanting to keep what they worked for, while ignoring defining greed as wanting to receive benefit from others through the heavy hand of gov't? Your B.S. on altruism falls hopelessly short of reality–the difference is that most of us believe in providing to the needy through NPOs. But leave it to the socialists within the Dem party to want to eliminate tax benefits for charitable contributions.

The thing most of you on the left seem to be missing is that each of these steps the Dems are taking is in an effort to make us all dependent on gov't rather than ourselves. They couch it in "we are looking out for you," but don't utter the reason which is "so we can control every aspect of your life."

Communists in Russia and Nazis in Germany did it with force, the libs in the US are doing it through coersion–slower, but more effective.

We elected our President to govern, he is doing a great job, and he continues to win support for his policies.

Whether he is killing our #1 enemy Bin Laden, or standing up to genocide in Syria, or ending Federal discrimination on the basis of religion and preference, or providing health care to 40 million priced out by Big Insurance, President Obama wins.

Thank you Mr. President for implementing policies that serve the American people!

The government will be funded. Affordable Health Care is the law of our land. That is what us American's voted for!

Congress passed Obamacare, the president signed it, the Supreme Court upheld it, Obama campaigned on it a second time and was reelected. So in what manner was the will of the people disregarded?

"when I haven't seen him even be willing to compromise!"

Really? Then why did the Bush Tax Cuts get extended when the GOP/Teatrolls demanded that in exchange for them allowing votes on Don't Ask Don't Tell, the new START Treaty, unemployment insurance and several other things? And if there's no compromise, then why did the Senate Dems just vote for a bill that keeps funding at sequestration levels, something they do not want but the GOP/Teatrolls do want? You're not paying attention.

    @Donna,

    " 47% blah blah"

Oh who cares. Many Americans are too poor to pay Federal taxes. If you tax these people an additional 10 or 20%, they'll be even poorer and require more government assistance.

But the GOP isn't negotiating. They have offered no health care bill of their own; they have turned their backs on their parts that are in the bill, and: they have offered no fixes. The ACA is SETTLED LAW. Get over it and pass a budget.
    --
Have you been hiding under a rock? The GOP have been from what I see. The GOP had no alternative? Or do you mean one that liberals just don't like? The GOP introduced a bill on Sep 18th. Are there still questions about it? Sure. There were others in the past too. McCain had a health care plan and there was the Price plan. And what of Democrat "fixes"? If it's broken, why cant Democrats lead the way on it? Let me be clear on your last point. I don't care if it is current law. If it's a bad law, then fix it! Liberals sure love to play the "it's the law" card when it suits them. What about other laws that Democrats don't like, and refuse to enforce? Sorry, I don't play to either party. But Obamacare has some serious issues and shouldn't be forced down our throats and rip my wallet like it looks to do.

I am a contractor in DC and sitting at my desk watching the news on the panic about a shutdown. Here is what the public should really know, 99% of federal employees are so incompetent and lazy that in the event of a shutdown they would not be missed at best. We as contractors (who will still come to work), look forward to this shutdown, as we will then have them out of our way so we can actually do some work. If the ordinary American knew how incompetent and ineffective their government was, there would be a revolution.

To show how bad Obama-care is for the nation, the GOP is willing to torch the country to ash at a time of economic recovery to illustrate their point about how much Obama-care would hurt us.

Have you seen what their insecurities are doing to the WORLD markets? If we give them another year like they want, we will all be dead and buried.

Strategically genius, just genius (all sarcasm intend)

Shame on the TGOP for trying to destroy our economy again. These tea extremists clearly knew the terms upfront but irresponsibly chose brinkmanship instead of working together.

Boehner very likely has the bipartisan votes to pass the Senate's clean CR and therefore owns responsibility for the mess if he chooses a TGOP shutdown.

    Enough already.

Really? "Thieves stealing our kids future"? Haha...ok...let's meet these "thieves":

About 23% pay payroll taxes (i.e., they are employed but their employer pays them subsistence wages)
About 10% are the elderly and disabled
About 7% pay none because of deductions like Earned Income Tax Credit, the Child Tax Credit and the Childcare Tax Credit
About 6% due to income tax exemptions, itemized deductions and tax credits for education.

Top ten states for people filing returns that fall into the 47%: ID, NM, TX, LA, AR, MS, AL, GA, SC, FL...gee, there seems to be a pattern here.

"If it's a bad law, then fix it!"

Sorry, but even to the extent it needs fixes and tweaks, the GOP/Teatrolls have sworn never to allow any fixing of it and to thwart any attempts to do so. In fact, they've spent a great deal of time, money and effort doing the opposite, i.e., doing everything they can to break it and mess up its implementation as much as possible in order to turn around and say "see? we told you it was broken." Just more of their modus operandi: actively breaking gov't in order to "prove" it's broken.

"Its official, the Demo sSenate has effectivly shut the goverment down as they rejected the plan that would have kept gov up and running."

Sorry, but the Senate has voted on legislation to keep the gov't running with a clean funding bill, and now the House GOP/Teatrolls are going to refuse to allow that legislation to even be voted on. Why? Because it would pass. THAT is what proves it's the GOP/Teatrolls' fault.

Those are NOT deductions. They're dollar-for-dollar tax credits... REFUNDABLE tax credits to boot. Which means that not only to people who claim them not pay federal income tax, they get a check.

Actually, Democrats have already compromised by not demanding any changes to the sequester that they want. The only party that is making political demands are the Republicans. Psst, the American people not only see it, but they know it, too.

"GOP already compromised and offer a delay instead of full defunding and repeal!!! Time for the Dems to give a little now"

Nope. No quarter. Besides, that's no compromise. The employer mandate and the individual mandate have nothing to do with one another. Delaying the employer mandate does not break the ACA. Delaying the individual mandate DOES break or severely hamper the ACA, and it would cause premiums to go up very fast (which is why the GOP/Teatrolls want to do it...so they can then blame premiums skyrocketing on the ACA). Anyone comparing the two things as if they are essentially the same and are equally susceptible to being delayed hasn't the first clue how the ACA is structured and works or how the insurance and medical industries interact. Besides, the Dems already compromised by keeping the sequestration levels of funding.
