"Those are NOT deductions. They're dollar-for-dollar tax credits... REFUNDABLE tax credits to boot. Which means that not only to people who claim them not pay federal income tax, they get a check."

Not all who claim them get checks, but yes, technically, they are not deductions in the strict sense (altho you know what I meant in terms of using the word colloquially), but that's just semantic games again. Really relying on those today, eh Fair? And in any event, they are tax credits equally available to everyone in the country as long as they meet the conditions for receiving them, so pretending they are somehow unfair, inequitable and awful is a bit of a stretch.

    Pretty simple really...

Question: What can pass both chambers of Congress.

    Answer: A clean funding bill.

The Senate already voted on it and passed it. Your turn, House.

Who cares if the government shuts down? Not me. Then again I'm not a government dependent. Anybody affected by a government shutdown should learn a lesson from this and that is do not be dependent on any government for your existence. Do you see what happened in Greece? Well it can and will happen here if this leftist Democrat madness continues. A government shutdown is nothing compared to the collapse they are ultimately aiming at.

What will they take over next in order to "help" you and "save" you? Probably the colleges and universities. Then large companies or banks, probably big oil companies like they did in Venezuela. Leftists know no bounds. Their desire to control and dictate knows no bounds. Their taking from your paycheck knows no bounds.

Shut this beast down. The people that are paying for and keeping this country going won't be affected one bit.

Yeah, it's part of that "work for welfare" reform packages that the Gingrich House passed as part of his "Contract With America."

Obama care should be a separate issue. I am with the republicans on this issue. Had 70 percent increase in rates with my very small business policy. Know one understands this law and it is highly invasive. From accountants, health care providers and insurance agents, it is a mess.

"Those 47% are thieves stealing our kids future and their earnings so they can take and take now. It is the leftist union take and destroy mentality in action."
    --
Really? "Thieves stealing our kids future"? Haha...ok...let's meet these "thieves":
About 23% pay payroll taxes (i.e., they are employed but their employer pays them subsistence wages)
About 10% are the elderly and disabled
About 7% pay none because of deductions like Earned Income Tax Credit, the Child Tax Credit and the Childcare Tax Credit
About 6% due to income tax exemptions, itemized deductions and tax credits for education.
Top ten states for people filing returns that fall into the 47%: ID, NM, TX, LA, AR, MS, AL, GA, SC, FL...gee, there seems to be a pattern here.
    --

How nice of you to make up fantasy percentages. Of course you can quote a source for this right?

But the FACT remains, these people are EXEMPT from paying any money to support the maintenance of this country, its defense, its agencies. Why do 47% get a free ride that others pay for? If it wasn't good for healthcare, it must be equally bad for the support of our government. Pay 1% or 2% but PAY SOMETHING. NOBODY should be totally exemot from paying federal income taxes. Democrats have turned the tax code into a government charity, or more accurately a corrupt crime organization, that takes from their political opponents and directs the money to their voters/supporters.

BTW if the 23% is correct, then these people are paid exactly what their skills are worth in the marketplace. Want a better, higher paying job? Then stay in school, get an education, don't get knocked up and stay out of jail. Millions do it and succeed. It really isn't rocket science but too many in our country just sit back and demand everything be given to them instead of doing anything for themselves.

More Sniffin drivel response when he is caught red handed spewing his lies and BS.

    And then this gem:

"And in any event, they are tax credits equally available to everyone in the country as long as they meet the conditions for receiving them, so pretending they are somehow unfair, inequitable and awful is a bit of a stretch."

Of course you KNOW they are NOT available to EVERYBODY in the country BECAUSE of the conditions to receive them so YES, they are yet again, another use of the tax code to GIVE to some while denying the credit to others. I repeat, the Democrats have perverted our tax code beyond belief. It is used to punish and reward, take and reward, to turn government into a huge charity organization that is controlled politically. Vote for Democrats, they will reward you with a tax credit, a tax exemption, "free" healthcare that somebody else pays for (their non-supporters). Corruption and crime in government, the Democrat way.

Let's start a grassroots movement among federal employees- including military families- to all meet at the congress person's home of our choosing and camp out in the front yard until they can come to a meeting of the minds . Bet ya that would speed this and put us back work!!

Tommy G, do you even understand basic economics?

1 Million people unpaid, and thats just federal workers. plus all the people who do business with the government, such as the 10 million people emplyed as contractors. they dont get paid, they dont spend money. they dont spend money, now bunch of other people dont get paid. its not just the gov that's affected. its EVERYONE. no part of this economy exists in a vacuum. Everyone is connected.

If you think it wont hurt you, you are bloody ignorant.

Of course you are dependent on the government. Every time you drive your car, you are travelling on a road that is maintained by government hired contractors. Every single time you log on to the net to post something, thank the government, since they provided much of the funding to develop the net. T1 lines that were used originally to provide phone service then adapted to internet: government provided for that. Everything you use has a connection with the government. The funny thing is that the main benficiaries of those government funded projects have been private industry, but, in the revisionist world of the Rightie, they don't acknowlege an inconvenient fact like that when trying to paint a world where rugged individualist are being threatened by the government and their leeches. Ah, it must be so much fun to be a devotee of Ayn Rand, and live in a fantasy world.

The GOP/Teatrolls' behavior kindof reminds me of something Robert Downey Jr. said to a judge when being sentenced for his drug induced escapades...not an exact quote, but it was something along the lines of "It's like I have a shotgun in my mouth and I like the taste of the gun metal." Please proceed, GOPers/Teatrolls.....

I am not a government dependent either, but I know I already lost several thousand dollars of my 401k due to a market drop caused by this hysteria. Make no question about it, both parties have a hand in this issue, but it is the Tea Party Rethuglicans that will bear the brunt of the blame. Anyone who does not understand that governing involves compromise should not be there.

I already lost my preferred health care plan when my employer dropped the cadillac plan and reduced its health care offerings as a result of Obama (could)Care(less). Instead, I now have the privilege to pay more for less coverage under the new plan my employer now offers as a replacement to the lost coverage.

So do I care if the government shuts down over Obama Care? ABSOLUTELY I CARE!

SHUT DOWN OBAMA CARE OR SHUT DOWN THE GOVERNMENT!

We the People…do not want to hear about “games” Washington is playing…any analogy to “high stakes poker” or “taking your marbles and going home” – this is not a game to the American people – THIS IS OUR LIFE. What you are “playing” with for your own self-serving agendas is our ability to put food on our tables, roofs over our heads, clothes on our children’s backs – do not misunderstand this message, hear it clearly – when you put the safety, health and livelihood of our families at risk we will do everything, anything, to survive.

As Stephen Hawking states, “Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.” We the people have adapted to the changing times – for some it is a single parent working multiple jobs, for some it is both parents in the workforce, for some it is recent college graduates returning to their parent’s homes to temporarily reside until there are jobs. Congress of the United States, it is you that have failed to adapt to the changing priorities and demands and, as found in nature, when one fails to adapt it shall perish. If you cannot do the job you were sent to Washington to do, representing the best interest of all, then you are irrelevant and no longer necessary.

If not for your “games” OUR nation would be well on the way to a full economic recovery. If you continue to refuse to work together, to hold our nation hostage, know this…there will come a day in the not too distant future when We the People will find a way to run OUR country without you. We will go around you, over you or through you because after all, it is YOU, the Senate and the House of Representatives, that are blocking the American people’s “pursuit of happiness.”

What I will never understand is why we as a nation are okay with our nation extending the debt limit. Maybe everyone is a lot smarter than me but nobody wants to deal with this and we keep funding things we cannot afford.
Should we not have a balance budget amendment that requires both sides to get some kind of fiscal accountability.
Yes I am conservative but fiscal accountability should not be a partisan issue it should be what both sides want.
Well need to get back to work.

I do love this country and hurts me to see it miss managed by both sides. When will it end hopefully before its too late!

    God bless the USA

Shut down Obama Care -or- Shut down the government!

How else can we pay for the [UN]-Affordable Health Care Act, otherwise known as Obama [could-]Care[-less]!

As someone who has already been forced to pay more for less health care coverage as a result of my employer dropping the cadillac plan offered previously in response to the new healthcare law - I fully endorse de-funding Obama Care, even if the Government has to be shut down to get it done.

Having no political affiliation and remaining unbiased as possible, i am amazed at how a bunch of clacking politicians are about to significantly impact a number of citizens who just want to go to work tomorrow and take care of their families. Who cares about what the democrats or republicans want. For once do whats right in the eyes of civil liberty and allow people to just earn a decent living.

I have had it with everyone making all these crazy choices just to win votes and stay in power at the detriment of numerous jobs and welfare beneficiaries.
