Latest House attempt for piecemeal funding fails

Washington (CNN) - Up to 800,000 federal workers faced the prospect of life without a paycheck as Day One of the government shutdown kicked in, while Democrats and Republicans persisted in talking past at each other without actually talking to each other in order to end the nation's latest fiscal crisis.

The Republican-led House offered its latest gambit on Tuesday night but failed in separate votes to approve piecemeal funding for three specific programs - the District of Columbia, veterans affairs, and national parks. The votes required a two-thirds majority for passage, which required hefty Democratic support to have a chance. That did not materialize.

Good. Only an IDIOT of a Democratic leadership would give the House GOP the equivalence of a "line item veto" by way of this piecemeal funding strategy. I thought it was wipish to craveout military pay from the bigger problem. If they were going to pass any pay related legislation, it should have been to STOP Congressmen from getting a paycheck during any shutdown of, oe default by, the US government.

  4. Interesting, the sky did not fall as the Democrats foretold

The federal government pretended to "shutdown", the sun rose as it always does, the non-essential workers went home as they are truly non-essential to our government, government was open for business, the markets were happy and rose, the sun went down, government was still "shutdown". We are all alive and well. Gee, that was thoroughly unexciting. Maybe we should just get rid of those 800,000 people and save a lot of money going forward? Sure would help get the deficit under control. We can learn a lot from one of these shutdowns. Like just how many useless government jobs are really out there sucking up our tax money while we scrape to get by.

Any politician who's contributors profit financially do to the government shutdown should be charged with insider trading and conspiracy to commit fraud .

Republicans love going short on America , it's patriotic to them.

Piecemeal is an incredibly stupid tactic to continue to keep Americans from going to work tomorrow and earn a living! Get over it! ALL of Government needs to go back to work tomorrow. Obamacare is here to stay! There are many of us that do not earn what you do to be mad and ineffective. Don't put it on us. We will remember this when your terms are up.

Talk about no compromise sounds like Reid is stopping the Gov. also plus why is the last bill so bad postpone Obamacare for one year and no pass for the Gov. That is not stopping it , it a delay it , where is the reporting on that? I wonder is CNN for the average Joe? Now they send a bill over to fund Vet. health care so our vets. get heath care and Reid turns it down. I can hardly wait for my bill on health care it is to be about what my cell bill is. Where is CNN some people signed up today what was the price. no reporting just a bunch of noise about how good it is.

Really? This reminds me of when mom got home and the place was trashed, somebody was in big trouble. Wait until 2014 GOP/Tea Baggers. You'll get to campaign on this to your RWNJ's in those gerrymandered districts saying you shutdown the gubmit so re-elect me to do it again....we'll see how far that goes this time....the village will still love it's idiots

Hey Dems... add the strictest gun measure you possibly can to the next round of gov funding talks and lets see how much longer these Repubs want to keep holding the country hostage.

No. That wont be necessary actually. The Repubs have dug so deep of a hole for themselves that 2014 Senate and House majorities and a Hillary or EWarren presidency is looking more and more likely...
