No end in sight to government shutdown after 'unproductive' White House meeting

Washington (CNN) – After weeks of talking past each other, congressional leaders and President Barack Obama talked to each other Wednesday evening - only to emerge evidently no closer to a deal to halt the government's budget stalemate.

The White House meeting, coming a day after the start of the federal government shutdown, served at least one purpose, in that key players in the debate gathered together in the same room for over an hour: Obama called it "useful," House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said it was "worthwhile," and House Speaker John Boehner cast it as a "polite conversation."

LOL. I can't wait to see the look on Boehner's face when he leaves.

I hope they don't just come eat, drink and leave without finding solution of the current predicament. They don't deserve even a glass of water.

So thaaat was the problem; they were mad about not getting invited to the White House. Kinda like Newt got mad when Clinton didn't let him ride in the front of Reagan's Air Force One.

The President needs to invoke the Antideficiency Act. "Congress in shutting down the government has to at least to some extent given up the power of the purse to the executive branch".

I do hope the President reminds Mr. Boehner just how far out of his lane he is with the GOP's strike at the heart of domocratic principles which our government has operated under lo, these many years.
Perhaps a few sets of handcuffs and some Federal Marshals to hang around to ensure "order" might help our Republican bretheran stay focused on the isue at hand.

Congressional leaders will meet with President Obama this afternoon to discuss the shutdown, the White House says.
    -------------------------------------------------
What, they're actually going to honor the President's invite to sit down, discuss and negotiate?
The rope must be really tight around Boo-Hoo's neck.
All the President has to do to keep the pressure on and obtain resolution is to keep going on television, radio and the media and talk directly to Americans. Tell them what's at stake, tell them what he's done to try and get it resolved, and tell them WHO'S NOT COOPERATING.
When the President speaks we listen.
The jig is up. Work this out or you'll be out in 2014.

I think this is a positive step. They need to meet and figure this out together. That's a smart decision.

  15. Wake up People!

Boehner should stay at the bar and send Ted McCarthy Cruz in his place since he is now the unofficial de facto leader of the GOP these days.
    Just saying.

The ADA prohibits the federal government from entering into a contract that is not "fully funded" because doing so would obligate the government in the absence of an appropriation adequate to the needs of the contract.

And if this was the other way around?

Democrats should just give them a taste of their own medicine and slap on gun control, single payer healthcare, and free nationwide abortion services onto the CR then when Republicans say no to it refuse to pass anything and scream "WHY ARENT YOU NEGOTIATING???"

Don't give into these clowns, Mr. President. Stand your ground. You are on the right side of history here. Do not let Boehner dictate terms – he's the weakest Speaker of the House in U.S. History and he needs what we call here in the south "A come to Jesus moment".

    The GOP has lost.
While they pointlessly pandered to their very radical base, and attempted to try to cobble together government funding based on federal agencies they "like" (which they naturally failed at), the ACA began enrolling people into healthcare programs yesterday. The ACA IS law, the GOP is acting well outside the norms of Congress or the Government. Their pointless destruction of government operation, and now apparent refusal to pay the government's bills has thrown 800,000 federal employees into unemployment, is costing states lost tourism revenues (which will impact state budgets), is costing the federal government $300 million a day, and will soon impact the private sector companies and businesses that do business with the federal government further increasing unemployment and putting the fragile recovery from the GOP's last economic blunder at risk..

This my friends is the GOP vision for America.Chaos, harm for federal workers, and damage to business in America. I hope you like it.

These outdated out of touch ass clowns in congress have got to go and give way to a fresh new generation that is in touch with the average american people. If my bank account runs out of money do u automatically raise my balance by putting more in? Then do it again whenI hit that limit? Give me a break, these guys belong on the cartoon network, NOT on capitol hill!
