Poll: Stricter gun laws would not have stopped Navy Yard shooter

Washington (CNN) - Support for background checks for all gun-buyers remains high, but more than six in 10 American voters say tougher gun laws would not have prevented last month's Washington Navy Yard Shooting, according to a new poll.

The Quinnipiac University survey released Wednesday also indicates two-thirds of voters support Starbucks' recent request for customers not to bring guns into their stores.

GOP congressman: Let's tackle shutdown, debt ceiling at same time

(CNN) - Congress could kill two birds with one stone by ending the government shutdown and raising the debt ceiling all at once, a Republican congressman from New York said Wednesday.

"There is a strong possibility, if [Senate Democrats] were willing to sit down and listen to us, that we would put a package together and solve the problems at once: stop the government shutdown and deal with the debt ceiling," Rep. Michael Grimm said on CNN's "New Day."

Washington (CNN) - When Genevieve Jeuck and Michael Sallemi came up with their romantic little idea, it seemed perfect.

CNN Poll: Majority says raise debt ceiling

(CNN) – Surveys indicate that most Americans didn't think shutting down the government in an attempt to dismantle the new health care law was a good idea.

They apparently feel the same way about blocking an increase in the nation's debt ceiling to stop Obamacare, according to a new national poll released on Wednesday.

CNN wins Emmy for 'Election Night' coverage

(CNN) – Some 11 months after President Barack Obama beat out Mitt Romney, CNN itself emerged as a winner - taking home an Emmy for its Election Night coverage, as well as two others for its coverage of race in America and unrest in Syria and Afghanistan.

The Election Night honor wasn't CNN's only Emmy victory.
