Wild car chase ends with suspect shot to death near U.S. Capitol

,

Washington (CNN) - She had a 1-year-old child inside and apparently was unarmed.

Instead, the motorist's black Infiniti, according to authorities, itself became a weapon Thursday afternoon, first striking a security barrier and U.S. Secret Service officer near the White House before hurtling down some of the capital's most famous streets, police cruisers in pursuit.

Dramatic video taken minutes later near the U.S. Capitol showed the vehicle backing into a police vehicle before the chase resumed. Gunshots rang through the traffic circle. The motorist was shot by police just a few blocks away.

Probably a gun-rights type, too. Ironic.

People....think! Yes DC has gun restrictions....but you can just drive into the city! NO checkpoints, no scanners, no frisking....its an open city. you can walk in with a gun hidden and nobody would be any wiser...

We should make it illegal to have guns in Washington DC, and further more make it illegal to shoot guns in DC.

It's a travesty that the American public is pushed so far to the brink by the current actions within Congress that only with gunshots can the American public ensure Senate works in their offices. There is no excuse to choose violence over negotiations, that includes Syria, North Korea and the GOP. However, I'm sure the NRA members are helping Capitol Hill Police in any way they can.

The Capitol and Mall are 'Gun-Free Zones', criminals wouldn't think of disobeying those signs! Must have been something else...

Don't they all support the NRA? Why don't they take out their guns and shoot back?

Gun free zone only means that law abiding citizens will not bring a gun into it. As it has been proven with other gun free zones only criminals and the mentally unstable are allowed to carry in gun free zones.

I was standing in my company's reception area, with a colleague, who got a text from her husband (a legislator) via another person in the room. "We're on lockdown. Gunman loose on Capital Hill." She shortly received another saying, "Gunman dead. Guard injured. We're locked in a room with a Congressman." I saw the texts. This is not a hoax or a joke, trust me.

So congress and the pols that have closed government didn't expect anything like this to happen? I guess when you're still getting paid to sit at home and polish your pistol, anger isn't your first thought.
