Government shutdown: GOP moderates huddle as conservatives set agenda

Washington (CNN) – A small but growing group of House Republicans is increasingly worried about the fallout from the government shutdown and say it's time for Speaker John Boehner to allow a simple vote on a spending bill.

Defunding Obamacare can wait for now, they say.

(CNN) – Wendy Davis is expected to go public Thursday with some news that everyone in politics already knows: She's running for governor of Texas.

The state senator from Fort Worth electrified Democrats in June by slipping on a pair of pink Mizunos and a back brace to stage a dramatic 11-hour filibuster of a Republican bill that drastically scaled back abortion rights in the state. Never mind that the bill eventually passed in a special legislative session: Democrats around the country were in full swoon mode.

Palin endorses Lonegan in New Jersey Senate race

(CNN) – Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin has thrown her support behind Steve Lonegan in New Jersey's special U.S. Senate race.

The former Alaska governor released a statement Wednesday promoting the Republican nominee's conservative principles while criticizing Democratic opponent Cory Booker’s “constant tweeting and trips to Hollywood” and leadership as mayor of Newark.
