New hope for debt deal, but not for shutdown

Washington (CNN) - Grandstanding rhetoric abounded but little tangible progress was evident on Friday, the fourth day of a government shutdown both Republicans and Democrats say they don't want but claim they are unable to stop.

"This isn't some damn game!" House Speaker John Boehner said at a news conference where he ratcheted up pressure on President Barack Obama and Senate Democrats to negotiate changes to Obamacare as party of any deal to end the shutdown.

When are moderate Republicans going to take back their party from the tea party Taliban. Boehner is the weakest Speaker of the House in the history of our country. If the tea party Taliban had any guts they would start their own party. Instead they have infected the Republican party. Where is Colin Powell and other like minded Republicans. Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, Eric Cantor, Mike Lee and other tea party lunatics are ruining America !!!

The cards are in your hands, John Boehner. What are YOU going to give up to have President Obama help cover YOUR back? Because basically this is what your game is and has been all along. You've made yourself look like a fool, and now, as has been the case for 5 long drawn out years, you sniffle that he is not "helping" YOU get YOUR House of HELL NO in order. So, what's it going to be? Deal with the Democrats or fold into history as the most useless Speaker of the House in modern history?

Don't ... I beg of you ... continue your sniffling.

Barack Obama is having a lot of fun using the government shutdown to squeeze the public in imaginative ways. Shame on him and the Democrats. Hurting America anyway they can.

Boehner: "This isn't some damn game!"

Agreed. So bring the vote on the clean CR to vote, John. Let the Representatives of the People decide.

By the way, yelling louder doesn't change the argument.

    Negotiate "changes to Obamacare"..............
    Compromise – defund Obamacare
    Negotiate – repeal Obamacare
    Compromise – delay Obamacare.............

Blah, blah, blah.............better hurry up – isn't it almost time for another vacation?

Don't negotiate with terrorists. The Democrats have to hold firm on this one. Pass a clean CR without conditions.

Why doesn't he tell this to His Own Caucus ?
How about telling this to his buddies "Mitch & Rand" ? (when it was over heard on the open mike)
Why would Baynor hold a "conference" Just to say that it's no game.
Is he afraid of confronting Rand & Mitch face to face ?

  15. We the People, We are the Bosses of Government

I like having the government shut down. I think we should do it more often just to remind all of these people it is they that work for US! Shutdown the IRS for a week every year to remind them it is they that work for US! Good job Republicans! 5 days and counting and nobody even notices all these people gone. Makes you wonder why we have them in the first place.

The President has done nothing but bend over backwards to give crybaby 98% of what he wanted. It's time for crybaby to give back a little bit. That's called compromise. Anything else is called a shakedown, and the American people have been shaken to the point of damage by crybaby and his deep-pocketed owners.

i heard a republican say his party wants "RESPECT". my father always told me what comes around goes around. the GOP has shown no respect to this president since he was elected. remember a GOP house member calling the president a liar during the state of the union address? remember the president having to defend and show his birth certificate to the country just to stop all the stupid birther talk. do you really think the GOP would ask a white president to prove he was born in our country? the GOP has become a laughingstock. the whole govt. is being held hostage by a small group of radical, extremist right wing nut cases. what a shame. i will never ever vote for a republican again in my life time.

No, he has done anything. Instead he is demanding the American people bend forward and get ready to take Obamacare whether they want it or not. Obamacare, the raping of the American people.

Congress has never been a more accurate reflection of the electorate than it is right now. This board is full of people just talking past each other, just like both parties are doing.

The potential gains of "winning" this conflict massively outweigh the potential political cost. Who is at fault and making sure those people get blamed is so much less important than solving the problems of our political system. Hint: if you think the problem is that there are too many of the other guys' party in Congress, you are the problem.

Too bad the average voter doesn't read a ballot past the "D" or "R" after the name let alone figure out what each candidate actually stands for.
