R-E-S-P-E-C-T! Conservatives say they need it in shutdown debate

Washington (CNN) - The great government shutdown of 2013 is about Obamacare and budget priorities, but it also is about respect.

In short, conservative House Republicans don't think they get enough of it from President Barack Obama and the Senate.

"Conservatives" get the respect they deserve for their little coup. If there was justice, they would also get an expenses-paid vacation at Gitmo.

""If you want a deal done in the boardroom, you don't assault people before you walk in," he said, adding that "you're talking about human beings" and noting, "The speaker is a human being, too."

Oh dear. What's that I hear? - the world's smallest violin weeping away?

You get what you give, Republicans. By the way, Neugebauer's treatment of the Park Ranger, blaming her for what HE voted for, is symptomatic of your problem.

    "Kisses sweeter than honey
Guess what! - it's going to cost you MONEY!" Pay the bills, Republicans.

Hard to respect grown adults who refuse to acknowledge election results and proceed to throw a 5 year long tantrum that includes everything from birtherism to overt racism and would make even the most petulant of toddlers blush.

An early Pew Poll showed that Americans blamed Republicans over Democrats for shutting down the government by a margin of only 39% to 36%. Why would our media ignore that poll? We know our media blamed Republicans from the start. Did that poll not match up with the narrative of blaming Republicans that our media wanted to do? Of, course.

They shut down the United States government because they didn't like Election Night 2012 results ... thus making it absolutely miserable for millions of Americans ... and now they whine they aren't getting RESPECT?

Cry me a river. Better yet, cry McConnell a river. He'll need the tears to stay afloat in Kentucky.

Respect is EARNED, not demanded and the rethugs have proven beyond a doubt over the last 5 years that they don't respect the President, and over the last 2 decades that the only Americans they respect are their deep-pocketed owners. The rest of us are nothing more than plebes to them who deserve to be treated with contempt and relegated to third world status because we're not rich.

One poll, vs how many others that show a vastly different result? I would have thought the GOP would have stopped relying on just one poll after Election Night last year

Republicans certainly have earned respect. They screwed up the economy. They have block every jobs bill that has been proposed. They have done everything to tank the economy under President Obama hoping the President will be blamed and not them. They live in a Rush Limbaugh, Shawn Hannity, Glenn Beck, and Bill O'Reilly Bubble that can not be penetrated by Truth or by Facts. In this Bubble, Global Warming doesn't exist, Evolution, and Government should dictate women's reproductive health, etc.

Everyone posting to blame one side or the other, understand that you are encouraging the absolutism that breeds this nonsense. You are each, individually, as responsible of every member of Congress for this situation, irrespective of which side you are criticizing.

The two-party system is hopelessly broken and each side actually seems to think one-party rule would be an improvement. This shutdown is precisely why many f the Founders warned us against forming political parties.

Shuttong down the government because they want to defund the ACA (which is the law of the land, by the way) is not only childish and churlish but about as dictatorial as you can get. To paraphrase Major General John M. Schofield, "[Those] that feel, and hence, manifests disrepect towards other cannot fail to inspire in them disrespect for [them]. The one mode or the other resides within the breast of the [individual]". The TP has been racist, judgemental, short sighted, small minded, etc, for 5 years. Grow some bolts !! There are Constitutional processes for dealing with laws you don't like. It is un-democratic, un-American and un-Constitutional to do what they're doing. They're traitors and should be dealt with accordingly, preferably with extreme prejudice.

If you negotiate a deal, ask and receive concessions and when the time comes to sign the agreement you take a hostage and demand everything you have ever wanted and couldn't get. The Democrats agreed to spending cut very close to those in the Ryan budget. Did they want to – no, but it was better then shutting down the government. Then when it was time to sign on the dotted line the gop/teaparty backed out. Now they are holding a gun to the head of the American people, holding their government hostage. And they blame the other side? Do they think we are stupid? You don't get to take a hostage, threaten to kill them and say it is the other sides fault because they didn't give them everything they have ever wanted. That is what terrorist do.

  23. GOP = Greed Over People

I stand with President O, if TP terrorists are rewarded for taking the American public hostage, they will do it again when they have their next childish temper tantrum!

Too bad the President caved to the terrorist in 2011, if he had listened to some of us, they would not be trying this, convinced he will cave.

Rewarding bad behavior only begets more bad behavior, especially amongst unruly, undisiplined sandbox playmates!

    Respect and GOP:
    * They threw 800,000 federal employees into unemployment
    * They actually had the nerve to abuse Park Service employees for closing the Mall AFTER they themselves shutdown government
    * They closed every National Park, wrecking the end of tourist season for thousands- many from other nations
    * Their shutdown costs $600 million a day
    * They don't even know why they shutdown the government or how to stop it
    * They are de facto, low-life radicals, hucksters and extorsionists

    They want respect?
