Washington (CNN) - The great government shutdown of 2013 is about Obamacare and budget priorities, but it also is about respect.

In short, conservative House Republicans don't think they get enough of it from President Barack Obama and the Senate.

    Why? What have they done trhat warrants respect? Clearly being good looking, smart, holding SUPERIOR education creditials, graduation from the premeir university in America, being married, faithful with two well mannered children,being a professor, a public servant, an elected state government official, a noted author, a national goverment elected official, a Nobel prize winner, a re-elected President of the United States, a CIC that ended two wars that citizens didn't want, the ONLY President to pass a 50 year effort to bring universal healthcare,saving the auto industry, saving the economy from a great depression, reducing the federal deficit, nominating two women to the highest court,or passing equal pay for women legislation was not ENOUGH for the Republicans to RESPECT Mr. Obama. bWhat have these non-accomplishment, prejudiced, anti-Obamites done that would cause any fair minded, thinking person to RESPECT them? Do your damn job Republicans and stop trying to lie, bully, scheme,plot against our Constitutional rules of order and MAYBE we won't banish you to Alcatraz.

    Respect is earned not a product you can demand!!. if you demand it, it means you ain't got it.
    All above bloggers in various ways got that truism.
    The piece meal approach of resolutions to the budget is nonsense. the house and senate voted for a completely different bills for 2013/2014 budget. Let us remember a clean CR simply approves a previously consensed budget plus subsequent legislation ( LAWS) that affect the budget not covered by the last budget passed.
    By offering the piecemeal approach to Budget CR'S Republicans are playing a smarts game of leaving PPACA subject to de-funding or whatever.
    Harry Reid and Obama are not that stupid they and we see right thru the Republican shenanigans. I say go for it and lose im2014 big time.
    Regards,
    Hodgson.

    For every day of whinning about the shudown, EXTEND THE SHUTDOWN TWO MORE DAYS, UNTIL THERE IS TRUE RESPECT FROM THE INDIVIDUALS THAT HAVE NOT DEMONSTRATED A BONIFIDE BUDGET FOR OVER 17 YEARS.

    @Data:

    You get what you give, Republicans. By the way, Neugebauer's treatment of the Park Ranger, blaming her for what HE voted for, is symptomatic of your problem.
    ------------

    Confirming the fact that it is doubtful these folks know what it is they are voting for or against. The GOP
    bubble is ready to burst. Cover your head. The fallout is going to be a 50 state extravaganza of spectacular
    proportion ... for Democrats.

    "You're damn straight. The American people are getting any either."

    Indeed. The majority of Americans wanted a majority of the House to be Dems.

    "Conservatives want respect"???????????????????

    The blessed poor children of America want food and healthcare.
    The true workers of America want to go back to work and get paid.
    "The American people", that the Republicans love to talk about so much, want Congress lose the attitude
    and quit whining.
    Quit strolling around the WWII Memorial looking for confrontation and photo-ops.
    Show President Obama a little respect.

    This is not about your whiney little hurt feelings. Do your job, and maybe you can get a crumb of respect.
    But just a crumb.

    The Pew poll shows a majority blames the GOP just like all the other polls.

    So, what was the point of your post?

    The GOP is still being blamed but the percentage is only 3%?

    You might want to ask Rasmussen, Gallop and what's his face(he married to today's Marie Antionette) just how import 3 points can be in a poll...

    The Republicans demanding respect brings to mind that scene in Fatal Attraction where the creepy character played by Glen Close says "I will not be ignored, Dan".

    I think we should take all of Congress and Obama and remove all computor and phones, put them in a room and keep them there till they fix the mess they have made. If kids can get time out for bad behavior so should these children.

    @Guest,

    "The two-party system is hopelessly broken and each side actually seems to think one-party rule would be an improvement. This shutdown is precisely why many f the Founders warned us against forming political parties"

    Well, then I agree with most of the Founders (actually, I think just Washington - everyone else was partisan as all get-out). As long as the Republican Party continues to be the party of Dumbness and Rebellion, then maybe there should be just one party running things. When Republicans get serious again, and stop extorting demands during routine congressional business, I will actually take them seriously, even if I disagree with their philosophy.

    But as for now? No r-e-s-p-e-c-t. Sock it to me, sock it to me!

    What unbelievable gall from these people. What they deserve is to be kicked out of office.

    Cutting off food and health care to innocent but poor infants because you do not want WIC and want to punish "welfare queens" is NOT the best way to EARN respect.

    @Dixie,

    "I think we should take all of Congress and Obama and remove all computor and phones, put them in a room and keep them there till they fix the mess they have mad"

    Let me catch you up. The House would pass a CR today if Boehner would bring the vote to the floor. "Obama" has nothing to do with it. I'd say, put Boehner in the room and keep him there until he decides to do what is right for the country.

    In order to get respect you have to give respect. The Tea Party has been all about disrespect from the very start, and proud of it. The GOP chose to go along with that because they thought it would win them elections, and maybe it did, some, but not the ones that mattered. And now they complain about the consequences of their cynical bargain, like a two year old couldn't figure out that you don't get what you want by throwing tantrums. The GOP needs to be sent to their room for a timeout while the rest of us worry about getting the country moving forward again.

    GOP = Greed Over People is a prime example of what I am talking about. He seems to truly believe that one party (clearly the Democrats in this case) would be an improvement. The solution to the dysfunction of the two-party system is NOT the one-party system. As long as one side plays to beat the other, the people lose.

    In the short term, the GOP absolutely end the shutdown and raise the debt limit immediately and without condition. Then they need to repeal the law that even makes the debt ceiling a thing. There is no Constitutional requirement for Congress to authorize its own borrowing, they made that limit up themselves.

    In the medium term, partisans need to abandon this idea that one party need triumph over the other and stop punishing their politicians for compromising. Yes, both sides do this.

    And in the long term, voters must demand an end to closed primaries and party-controlled drawing of Congressional districts. If you think only the GOP is guilty of gerrymandering you are a fool. The way it's set up now, the only consequences will be primary challenges against Republicans who tried to end this from *more extreme* people from their right.

    GOP/Teatrolls spend 5 years refusing to treat others how they'd like to be treated and then act baffled that they're not getting treated the way they want. FAIL.

    @Lynda,

    "Confirming the fact that it is doubtful these folks know what it is they are voting for or against."

    I think that in some cases (i.e., Neugebauer), you're absolutely right. There are some really, really unintelligent people in Congress who simply vote in a manner prescribed by their paymasters. I'm betting Neugebauer is one of these. I actually think that he has no idea that a National Park is a Government thing-a-ma-bob.

    What is wrong with this people? Respect is always earned and not demanded. What have you done that you demand respect? Dismantling the economy and jobs of every and each individual! If that is the respect you demand, you will never get it from anyone.

    @Dominican Mama for Obama,

    If you haven't seen Obama's speech yesterday about "What you GET", you have simply got to see it. Most fired up speech of his entire Presidency.

    Man, I'm loving this Second Term Obama!
