R-E-S-P-E-C-T! Conservatives say they need it in shutdown debate

Washington (CNN) - The great government shutdown of 2013 is about Obamacare and budget priorities, but it also is about respect.

In short, conservative House Republicans don't think they get enough of it from President Barack Obama and the Senate.

You painted yourself into a corner and now you want someone to rescue you, right John? Sorry. Wait until it dries and do what you Republicans always claim you want everybody else to do... help yourself!

All this President has done is extended olive branches out to republicans, at the dismay of us in the center left & left, & what do republicans have the audacity to do? They turn around and smack him in the face with the branch he extended out.

RESPECT? How can we respect politicians who throw common people to the wolves while licking the boots of billionaires?

77% of Americans want the individual mandate either repealed or delayed. Obama has changed the law numerous times without congressional approval. Obama has failed to uphold existing immigration, marriage, gun, etc laws. Parks and privatized historical buildings that receive no federal funding were ordered shutdown? Open monuments had barricades created around them? While I agree that the shutdown shouldn't occur, but after looking at how Obama operates, how can I really blame Republicans? Democrats have shown no desire to correct the issues that Americans want addressed.

Personally, i have lost respect for the president and all members of the house and senate. Makes me wonder why I should work or pay taxes.

    Dixie,

"All the Congress and Obama are guilty"

Nope, just John Boehner. I'll go and repeat this: there are enough votes in the House, according to all reports, to pass a clean CR and end the shutdown. Boehner, and Boehner alone, is to blame for not bringing it to a vote.

If Republicans want to negotiate, they need to negotiate during budget conference committees, not during routine fiduciary business like paying our bills that we've already incurred.

If Republicans want to determine the direction of public policy, they need to convince voters that their way is better and win national elections. They failed last year.

This is a quote from a park ranger who is following orders by this administration (Obama):
“It’s a cheap way to deal with the situation,” an angry Park Service ranger in Washington says of the harassment. “We’ve been told to make life as difficult for people as we can. It’s disgusting.”

    *************
Did it occur to you that the park ranger may have been referring to the reps who berrated them, the ones who are on tape verbally harrassing them? I guess context is something that eludes you.

You know, its actually funny that the GOP suddenly are trying to portray themselves as the friends of Federal Workers when Michelle Bachmann said that her colleagues were overjoyed about the shutdown.

And, as usual, the Right feels they are the victims here. Funny, they never actually want to admit they might be fallible, but, boy, do they want everyone else to confess every sinful thought and deed they've ever had.

You have to give respect to earn it. The Republicans really are on a trip without a suitcase. Can you believe these fools. Boehner is a cry baby. I bet the drunk is drinking out the bottle every night trying to figure how to get the ditto heads in the House of Representatives to understand government operations. Like I said before moose killer Sarah Palin really dumbed down the GOP/TP Party. They need to ask her to return those millions of dollars they sent to her for her fake Pac.

    Respect is earned.
Shutting down the government, hurting the entire country because you cant get your way with an existing law youve tried to repeal over 40 times that the supreme court has upheld.... NOT RESPECT WORTHY.

They still don't get it. They will be losing their minds again in 2014 just like they did for the 2012 election when President Obama won a second term. (Priceless) We the people have spoken and you better believe we are kicking their lazy no good for nothing , greedy behinds out for good.

    @ Tom Paine

The context is: "Barack Obama is having a lot of fun using the government shutdown to squeeze the public in imaginative ways." The republicans are trying to open the barricades for the veterans who fought for our country – not keep them out. You have it all turned around.

No, the republicans do not feel like they're victims – that's the card the democrats always play. We don't waste time doing that. Boehner is simply speaking the truth – the door has been slammed in his face with every offer – that is not respect – that's rude – and it's with the American people in the balance – high stakes.
