Obama blames Boehner for ongoing government shutdown

(CNN) - President Barack Obama in an exclusive interview with the Associated Press released Saturday laid responsibility for the government shutdown squarely at the feet of House Speaker John Boehner.

"We can vote to open the government today," Obama told the Associated Press. "We know that there are enough members in the House of Representatives - Democrats and Republicans - who are prepared to vote to reopen the government today. The only thing that is keeping that from happening is Speaker Boehner has made a decision that he is going to hold out to see if he can get additional concessions from us."

Much of the government has been shutdown - hundreds of thousands of workers furloughed, national parks closed, programs for anything from child care to space exploration shuttered - for five days. And it's likely to remain closed for several days if not weeks more, House Republicans concede.

The man of orange could bring the senate resolution to a vote today, but he is paying back America for the years he was laughed at in junior high school.

Im sorry but President Obama blames someone for everything. He should be sitting down and talking this out with both sides. That is what Presidents do...They lead. They don't fold their arms and behave like a spoiled child and make all of America suffer until he gets his way. There are people who agree with Congress that this Health care bill is and has been wrong and needs fixed. Congress is trying to protect American citizens..its their job....and its the Presidents job to listen. Its never to late to compromise...that what our country has been built on and should remain that way. This President promised he would bring that type of change and consistency and he has gone back on that promise again and again. I regret my vote..on both sides. I will not be voting Democrate again...I am disappointed!

    @Lori frites
I am absolutely aghast at the selfishness of many Americans . You can find all the money in the world to fight wars but when it comes to funding healthcare for your poorest citizens the Republicans act like the world is about to end. Have they actually explained to you why the Affordable Care Act will be bad for the economy? Beyond disgusting...

Yes, it is Boehners fault. Dude holds the purse strings and now wants to fund only his pet causes or those which will allow him to show his best face when pleading for donations from the Koch brothers. The rest of us? Eh, who cares.

17,000,000,000,000 of debt? How about Mr Obama has gave us what 6,000,000,000,000 of debt in 4 1/2 years in office. If we go on this way the debt will be 20,000,000,000,000 of debt when he is out of office. Our Kids will thank him but they have no money got to start paying off the debt.

Since, all Boehner has to due is break the "Hastert Rule" and bring the clean CR bill before the House for a straight up or down vote.

If he is certain, he is doing the "right thing" then where is the problem as it will be voted down.

If he is wrong, and the clean CR bill already approved by the Senate if passed, then he will be doing "the will of the American people".

    So, who loses?

Oh, yeah, Speaker Boenhner when the GOP TP terrorist strip him of his leadership!

"My job first, and country second" speaks volumes about the hypocrites in the GOP!

Want to repeal Obamacare? By all means!

First bring up repeal in the house and secure the votes, then move it to the senate and secure the votes.

Oh, you don't have the votes? THEN YOU CAN'T DO IT. THAT IS HOW IT WORKS.

GOP, quit being the spoiled kid who is losing at checkers so he knocks the whole board over.

I disagree Mr. President. I blame EVERY democrat and independent registered voter who sat home in 2010 because they didn't THINK you were handling the job the way THEY wanted you to. They expected you to twitch your nose, sprinkle moon dust and say magical words and UFFF... millions of jobs would suddenly appear, the wars would end and there would be no more hunger. Shame on them and shame on Boehner and his group of racists thugs for spitting on this country while they dine at the finest restaurants and pay their bills on a timely basis.
I can only hope these same people won't be asleep in 2014 and they turn out to help save this country from the fungus and growing disease called the TPublicans.

    Government Shutdown-United States Shutdown..

Pass the CR now. So the Small business can receive a paycheck from the Government and they don't need to furlough their Contract workers.

First of all, Republicans folded their arms and shut the government down to get their way. This is a FACT.
"Congress is trying to protect American citizens..its their job..."
So denying it's citizens of affordable healthcare by is shutting down the government is "protecting them"?
The same congress that has done NOTHING about tougher GUN CONTROL despite an increase in mass shootings?
The same congress whose shut down has effected our national security as well as emergency services?
We're talking about the same Congress, right?!?

Get over yourself...Your statement is vapid and vaccous. You can't lead or herd cats and idiots = GOP/Tea Baggers....These people don't want the government to work...they want this country to fail just because the law (Obamacare) allows people to get insurance. Any person with brain matter above that of a gnat understands tthe premise of the new healthcare law...those that cannot understand, don't care or want people to have insurance ... CANNOT be lead. Now go take your meds and get back to us when you have something intelligent to say.

@lori crites–you have never voted democrat have you? Where the heck have you been since President Obama was sworn in in Jan. 2009. Speak for yourself about healthcare and leadership. You are living in a bubble protected from the real world and the truth. Republicans are not trying to protect us they only care about the fringe group tea party. You need a dose of reality my dear.
