Shutdown Day 7: Things you need to know

(CNN) - It's Day 7 of the government shutdown. You still can't go to a national park. You still can't call the IRS for help with your taxes. And Congress still can't get its act together to come up with a solution.

Here's a look at the ... inaction ... making news today.

    Allow me to demonstrate just how ridiculous, and poorly thought out that the above talking has become. Please accept my apologies for causing you any embarassment ahead of time.
    The above suggestion simply will not work for no better reason than the fact the Tea Party has furloughed most all of the people who would do the actual work. The fact of the matter is this, the Tea Party furloughs have shut down incoming revenue.

    WOW!!! Rudy, your ignorance and total lack of touch with reality is on full display with this insane statement. If every single IRS agent was furloughed, which they are NOT, hundreds of billions of tax dollars are automatically collected and submitted to the government electronically. Businesses are the primary tax collector fo rte government. Or do you actually think the IRS knocks on the doors of all taxpayers? hahahahahaha

    "Sniffit&Ruby: bla bla bla–

    In other words so far it has been a total failure and no hope to get better?"

    That's not at all what I said. Enrollment isn't and wasn't expected to be like a Walmart on Back Friday. Data, evidence and historical record from MA's implementation of this kind of a system indicated that enrollment would start slow and spike near the end, not the beginning. The insurance companies are expecting precisely that. Experts are predicting precisely that. People are not only nervous and scared by the GOP/Teatrolls demagoguery, some may be waiting to hear about what others have experiences...but they are also not stupid, and will and are (as expected) prudently taking their time to shop the exchanges to get the best and most appropriate insurance for their money. Enrollment will, in fact, not really spike until December. That's not a failure by any means, but you go right on ahead with your silly talking points and partisan claptrap.

    One more thing that you need to know:
    The Republicans lost. Sure they haven't conceded yet, but its clear this won't end good for them.
    First, polling this weekend puts the House withing the grasp of Dems in 2014 over the shutdown;
    Second, 75% of Americans are against the shutdown;
    Third, The actions taken by the GOP are clearly extra-legal, and make no sense at any level of examination;
    Fourth- They're losing support of the business community, they are hurting small business, tourism, and of course all of those Americans who work in those businesses and industries- nevermind the 800,000 they just added to the nation's unemployment rolls;
    Finally, the longer this drags on, the more doubt there is about the GOP's theoretical "patriotism". This action in no way is an action of "patriots".

    So, even if the GOP gives up their insane action today and elects to do their job and fund the government, their brand is very damaged.

    If they pursue their idiocy and send the nation into default, they will pretty much cease to exist, having completed their suicide pact with the TEA Party loons.

    Either way the GOP has is damaged goods. Shutting down the governemnt was a pretty hideous idea.

    @Donna
    In your hyperpartisan tirades you completely ignore facts (being a republicant, I realize this is how you exsist- ignoring reality ). Rudy wrote, "The fact of the matter is this, the Tea Party furloughs have shut down incoming revenue."
    He did not indicate anything about the IRS or tax collections... he just pointed out the fact that with 800,000 off the tax roles this is 800,000 people not paying taxes (not including ALL the other business and industries who suffer from these people not consuming).
    So let's re-examine who exactly is ignorant and has a total lack of touch with reality.

    Wow, automatically collected? Please tell us all about this process where everything is done electronically. BTW, were'nt you one of the people squawking about then the Federal Exchange site went down for a few hours last week, how this was a metaphor for how the government operates, and yet, here you are now, talking about a magic process by which the government collects taxes without people? Make up your bipolar mind, is the government incompetant, or are they more efficient than you want to admit ( since that would undermine your entire argument ( if it can be called an argument)? Who will be there to collect and organize the data supplied by those businesses? Are they elves, illegal aliens? Each of those businesses has to file returns as well: what about them?

    The IRS is not performing any audits. Almost everyone has been furloughed. The revenue streams have been shutdown, Donna.

    Oops, I almost forgot to point out. When it is done electronically, then ALL OF IT is done electronically. To only collect or pay for some of it, then that requires human intervention and those people have been laid off. Now, do you understand?

    It is very amusing that all the leftists in here don't even know how the tax collection system in this country works. They think a partial government shutdown stops tax collection. You don't think the government would classify that as ESSENTIAL?! Stopping tax audits does NOT stop tax collection. You clueless lefties don't even know how your corrput government thievery works. Typical.
