Gingrich to Obama: you have to negotiate

(CNN) - Former Republican Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich once again called out President Barack Obama Tuesday for refusing to negotiate with congressional Republicans over raising the debt limit.

"The president ought to be getting off his high horse, sitting in a room, bringing in the congressional leadership and acting like he's part of the constitution, he's not above it," Gringrich told CNN's Chris Cuomo on "New Day."

Gingrich, one of the co-hosts of CNN's "Crossfire," said that the American people think that for the president to do anything else is "nuts."

Gingrich was House speaker during the last two government shutdowns, in late 1995 and early 1996.

The president and Senate Democrats have held firm on their refusal to negotiate under under the gun, calling for a "clean" increase to the debt ceiling. Obama reiterated that stance in a speech at FEMA Monday.

"We're not going to negotiate under the threat of a prolonged shutdown until Republicans get 100% of what they want" or under the threat of "economic catastrophe," said the president.

–CNN's Bryan Koenig contributed to this report.

CNN allows GIngrich to have guests on "Crossfire" whom he has financial ties with, either to pay him (for his campaign debts, presumably) or whom his own PAC pays, presumably to promote either the guests' candidacy or agenda. The same goes for Ms. Cutter. In the past, such crass and ethically bankrupt arrangements on a news network were not tolerated.

"Crossfire" is very much a part of what is wrong with America today. Time for Jon Stewart to appear again and shut it down. It crawled out of the slime while he was out of the country - he needs to send it back to the slime.

Sorry hypocrite, I'm an "American People" and I think the president should do nothing. Did the senate threaten to shutdown the government or was their CR clean? It was clean, so the negotiation IS we keep ours clean, so yours needs to be clean. Or, we amend ours to ban gun purchases for a year to match yours, then we'll negotiate.

Who's playing games? House Republicans pass a back-pay bill, which Senate Republicans have filibustered.

    Mr. Gingrinch,
You have done more harm to this country than some of our enemies. I would ask you to get off your high horse and shut up! The extreme right has no desire to negotiate. The AHA is the law of the land. Deal with it! These same people had no problem going into debt to finance a war of lies in Iraq.

When the Democrats passed Obamacare without s single Republican vote they essentially took control of one-sixth of the economy without popular support from the electorate. Now, Democrats act like they are shocked that people are rising up and are opposing this power grab. Furthermore, they pretend that Obama is an emperor of some sort and no one is allowed to oppose him on any issue. We are going to fight this abortion of a law through every possible legal means.

100%? That's Obama's demand. He can't cut out parts of a law and keep the other part in without a vote. But that's exactly what he did with Obamacare. He should either reinstate the corporate mandate or postpone the individual one – it's obviously not ready to operate anyway. He's an embarrassment and very destructive.

I never ceases to amaze me at how good the Marxists are at destroying existing systems, and they are equally bad at replacing them with efficient, good ones. All through history, same old song.

What is the President negotiating on? Either Congress can put forth a clean CR and than discuss deficit reductions. Trying to defund the Affordable Care Act now is not on the table and should not be. If it is that is a Fail in negotiation 101.

hey newtster – may I correct you ? that's what Obama has been doing for the last 6 months. The bonehead wouldn't talk or get serious the last 6 months. As far as I'm concerned, let it all go to Hell.

btw, have you noticed all the big shots such as the owners & CEO's like warren buffett, & the big wigs of goldman sachs are are talking this morning on Carol Costello's show ?? some are taped interviews, but here's the thing : The middle class & regular working people had their necks in a Vise from wall street for too long. Now, the tide is starting to change, I hope Obama calls the bluff on the 17th – & let it go...the worst thing that could happen is that the republicans will Love to see the economy like it once was under "W" in "08" – the only thing is : there ain't gonna ne no "bailout"

Here we go again ... yes, Mods?

Mr. Gingrich suggests that President Obama needs to "negotiate". I ask "with whom". From my perch on the fence, the GOP is still in the infancy stage of negotiating with themselves. Mr. Boehner for all intents and purposes has no control in his own House of Representatives. I cannot at this time go the extra mile Gingrich want to push me into by faulting President Obama for Mr. Boehner's inadequacies as Speaker of the House.

John Boehner .... get your House in order.

Yup. It's called an executive order. Despite their worst efforts, the Tea Party House cannot issue executive orders, though I will give them credit for at least trying. If you don't like it, then I suggest that you figure out how to win elections, instead of trying to circumvent the Constitution and issue executive orders to the POTUS.

The question is what is on the table as it were. If there is a request for a specific law on the table that has already passed Congress and been signed by the president, then why during a budget fight? Do they want to repeal Unemployment Insurance as well?

too bad the under 45 voters didn't think it was important to vote in 2010 during the last mid-terms, if they came out & Voted, there wouldn't be a Tea Party by now....The only way to get rid of this type of "fringe" is to get out there, and Vote in 2014, I don't care if somebody has to put you in a wheelchair, and stroll you to your polling area.

Rudy.....it's like republicans have will and probably will continue to use any and every trick in the book to advance their causes. And when democrats do the same, republicans will scream like someone stole their pacifier. The tea heads fall for it because......well....let's face it....they aren't too keen on how this stuff works. I still remember the tea folk going bat isht crazy over the president picking czars. References to Russia and communisim. Like Obama is the one that started using the term czars. And heaven forbid, the president takes a vacation.....

Well, Mr. Gingrich, coming from the architect of the last shutdown, I would have to say you're wrong. The GOP has already lost. The GOP has tipped it's hand as being the anti-American, anti-Constitution party. You're losing voters as I write, and carrying this charade to it's conclusion will simply make your ilk the most hated Americans since the Pollards, or the Rosenbergs.
See, you guys have confused (or exchanged real leadership) for gamesmanship. This isn't about doing anything for America or Americans, its all about trying to beat the President. Here's a tip- you've lost to him twice. The third time will be the end of the GOP.
