Obama calls Boehner over shutdown, debt ceiling

(CNN) - President Barack Obama reiterated to House Speaker John Boehner in a phone call Tuesday morning that he was willing to negotiate with Republicans "over policies that Republicans think would strengthen the country," but only after the government shutdown and debt ceiling issues are resolved, the White House said. Earlier, a Boehner spokesman characterized Obama's remarks as declining to negotiate over the government funding and debt ceiling issues.

The White House announced late Tuesday morning that the President would address reporters and answer questions at 2 p.m. ET.

"Obama is so pompous he is willing to let people suffer before doing anything."

Teatroll Rosetta Stone says; Obama is so uppity he is willing to let people suffer before doing what he is told.

Have no fear...we know what you meant.

    Aw, Gee,
Would you run that by me once more Mr. Prez. First I give you everything you want and then we negotiate? Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

Democrats have already given the Tea Party what they wanted. The 'clean' bill passed by the Senate, which is waiting for Boehner to bring to the floor, has the Ryan Plan spending levels in it. Democrats have already accepted the spending cuts, but Boehner is acting like none of it has happened.

Why would the House pass a back-pay bill, but only to have a Republican filibuster it in the Senate, which prevents a vote.

    @Wire Palladin, S. F.
The right wing nuts are declaring the ACA a failure because after one week, 45 million had not signed up. I wish they had the same time line for Bush's unnecessary war in Iraq.

I said from the very beginning that this should be one of the things that Republicans hate for THIS President to do: get in front of the cameras/microphones and tell the American people what's going on,keeping us abreast of any and all efforts, and what is at stake.
They HATE that because when the President speaks people LISTEN.
    We TRUST THIS President.
We do NOT trust Boehner, Cantor, Mitch and the rest of Kool and the Gang.
We TRUST our duly elected President.
And as for the GOP you've got no one but yourselves to blame for the lack of respect and low regard that you're being held to.
Did you really think that 5 plus years of disrespecting our President was going to pan out well for you?
Did you really think that 5 plus years of making it your business to obstruct even your own ideas and hold our country's progress at bay was going to pay off in the end with positive gains for you?
    You're reaping what you've sown.
The people who are most affected by this shutdown are rightly so blaming you for it and supporting the President.
And he's going to keep his face in front of a camera so that we can hear it from his own mouth and not be misled by your spins and misinformation until this shutdown is over.
And when it is, so will your Party be over, in more ways than one.

Nothing funny about the fact that even despots are willing to be more reasonable than the GOPeeing Teatards in the House.

The Democrats had declared the amount of money they needed and wanted in the CR and the Republicans refused and countered with a much lower amount which the Democrats agreed to with the stipulation it would be passed. So, the Democrats have already negotiated and compromised. Right? So who is going back on his word? Not the President.

Use ARITHMETIC he said Bill Clinton. Whatever we do, we are always required to use it. Republicans didn't do any maths. Jumping onto defund Obamacare and then shutting down the government, has resulted their hands be tied behind. Nothing a person in such a position can do, only to scream and wait for being rescued.

"So Obama wont negotiate unless the GOP give in to all of his demands, to include the raising of the debt ceiling again! "

Obama's "demands" are not "raising the debt ceiling." THAT is where you go wrong. Raising the debt ceiling is an absolute necessity to pay for PAST SPENDING authorized by Congress and only the stupidest, most ridiculous misinformed, tinfoil hatted ideologues believe that (a) it's not Congress' absolute, non-negotiable duty to raise it and (b) that failure to do so will not cause a global economic meltdown. Boehner, McConnell, and almost every other GOPer knows this but has created an environment for themselves in which they cannot admit it publicly.

As to what Obama's actual demands will be, it will involve revenues and tax reforms that take away unnecessary preferential loopholes and deductions for the extremely wealthy and corporations. Claiming that is a non-starter means the GOP/Teatrolls are unwilling to negotiate and have any actual give-and-take compromise occur. Pretending that "the Dems already got what they want in the form of the debt ceiling being raised" is what is a non-starter...because it is a lie.

Republicans were right last year at the same time and on a budget issue, and the deficeit is shrinking! Boehnor is trying to spare us from a harder future by reigning in spending,
Which is at it's worst under tax/spend liberals
Like Obama, Reid, Pelosi, who stupidly put forth a fragmented, convoluted, and unexplained(by them) Health Care Bill, which
has been plagued by glitches from day 1. Did anyone "test" this website/process? Most of us in the real America know you don't launch a new system without testing and feedback.
Their answer: "the shut-down" caused it, because of Fed worker furloughs!

Well, I guess the IT personnel struggling with
Obamacare Web issues were deemed "non-
essential". Like the Bill itself and Hollywood
tramps bearing their plastic boobs for "the cause".

    Kick ass GOP!

I cannot believe that ppl in Fl are so against pres. Obama. The TV was on the whole day and nothing happened until pres. Obama started talking. In a few seconds after the president started, we have an electrical problem that shortdown the tv signal and we who were waitng to listen to the president's speech missed the whole thing. I have never seen anything like that before. Comcast and Fpl are two companies that hate the president, his project to help the American ppl, and the American ppl in general.
