Carney: Obama expects death benefits problem 'to be fixed today'

(CNN) – President Barack Obama was disturbed to learn that death benefits were not being paid to survivors of fallen military service members as a result of the shutdown and has directed the Pentagon, the Office of Management and Budget and the White House lawyers to figure out a way to address the problem, White House spokesman Jay Carney said Wednesday.

The president expects the problem “to be fixed today,” Carney added.

Only if democrats can do this alone will it happen. Republicans are too busy at the gym trying to keep fit.

OMG PAY YOUR BILLS! I am being forced to go with no money , no way to buy gas, food, pay rent, pay bills, until the shutdown is over AND I AM WORKING!! I am fed up fed up. Expect a mass exodus of your best and brightest fed tech employees– people they worked hard to recruit and retain. Those of us with good skills and degrees with student loans to pay off are going to be out of here after this shutdown. I have not gotten a cola in 4 years, my pay was cut 3% thanks to sequestration and now I MAY or MAY NOT be paid for this current mess, but still have to come to work anyway!!! I am so gone after this and I have a 14 year career with the DoD. I used to love working for the DoD I was proud to be a public servent supporting our military behind the scenes. The public hates us and congress hates us so why be here anymore? if you think government is inefficient and slow now, wait until all you have left in federal service are people who cant leave because they dont have the right skills to work in the private sector , too old to leave or total idiots who cant add 2+2 but got a fed job anyway due to a special program or a connected family member.

Well, the Koch brothers helped out those parents at M.I.T. earlier this week. How come they can't help the veterans' families? :)

Who cares if people die, lose limbs, come back and with PTSD or other problems? Who cares if their families have to go broke? GOPers don't care about the results of war (other than winning). Any deal made today in favor of the troop's families will be to save face only.

Only so much they can do since they were a major funding source for all the Teatroll groups that began planning this shutdown in January 2013 as their response to Obama's re-election and the GOP's failure to grab the Senate. Of course, most people don't know what I'm talking about because the MSM and CNN are completely ignoring the FACT that the GOP/Teatrolls have been planning and demanding this shutdown and the default on the debt ceiling for MONTHS.

It goes back even further than the most recent clandestine meetings with the Koch brothers, and other right wing groups, that that NY Times reported on Sunday. Most of these Tea Party members openly campaigned on shutting down government if that's what it takes to repeal Obamacare.

What's scarier is that these are the same people who have sworn to never raise the debt ceiling again. Most of them were pretty upset when Boehner allowed a vote to raise in 2011. It's almost certainty that he's not going there again, IMO.

As Commander-in-Chief President Obama has once again dropped the ball on one of his most important duties. It is simply unforgivable that this sort of thing was allowed to happen. And that useless Chuck Hagel, himself a former military man, should be run out of town for letting this happen. To disrespect our fallen and their families like this is despicable and Obama and Hagel deserve to be publicly flogged.

    ye ole Gunderson
Glad hear you listen to Old Gunderson. Old Gunderson think nobody pay attention. Now for some serious talk. Not sure where the money comes from for these deceased soldiers. If it is the Defense Budget there is a CR that runs thru October if i'm not mistaken. If that's the case there should be no controversy. However if the Obama Adminstration is putting *hit in the game, of which appears to be more and more the case, well you can make up your own mind if the Liberal's are selling you a pile of *hit, or not. It is no secret that Obama is trying to Con you into buying Obama Care. It is also no secret that the National Debt will go up, and up, and up, and ever worse if the ACA is Funded. There is no free lunch, as much as the "Know Nothings" think.

Its spelled " disgrace"; with regards to the leadership issue, Boehner is the worst Speaker in history, since he is supposed to control the House, not be controlled by an obnoxious faction of backbenchers who pride themselves on screwing things up just to keep their illiterate supporters happy.

Its called sarcasm, Tony: while you're busy looking that up, also learn about "context". The only thing a conservative ever does now is play the victim.
