Carson: Obamacare is 'slavery'

(CNN) – Dr. Ben Carson, a renowned neurosurgeon enjoying recent popularity in the conservative movement, compared the federal health care law to "slavery" during a speech Friday at the Values Voter Summit, an annual conservative gathering in Washington.

"Obamacare is really, I think, the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery. And it is – in a way, it is slavery, in a way," he said. "Because it is making all of us subservient to the government."

At the heart of his criticism is the law's requirement, beginning next year, for individuals to obtain health insurance or else face a penalty.

A longtime critic of the Affordable Care Act, Carson rose to fame earlier this year when he bashed Democratic policies on taxes and health care as he gave the keynote address at the National Prayer Breakfast. President Obama was sitting just feet away while he openly chided some of Obama's positions.

He argued Friday that the president's signature law "was never about health care."

"It was about control," he continued. "That's why when this administration took office it didn't matter that the country was going off the cliff economically. All forces were directed toward getting this legislation passed."

Fact Check: Obamacare

He said the Obama administration was 'neglecting' the Constitution and imposing "their own will" by picking and choosing which provisions of the health care law to enforce.

"When they give businesses exemptions but the common people they say, 'No, you have to do it, you know, that's not America," he said. "That's Russia. That's someplace else. How did we allow that to happen in this nation?"

He was referring to the administration's decision to delay for a year the employer mandate for businesses with more than 50 full-time employees. The individual mandate, however, is still scheduled to take effect in 2014.

As Carson gained more attention for his political views this year, some speculated he could run for public office–an option he hasn't ruled out.

But he sparked strong backlash in March when he equated homosexuality with pedophilia and bestiality during a television interview centered on same-sex marriage. Facing loud opposition, he apologized and withdrew from speaking gigs at Johns Hopkins medical school and an event for the American Academy of Physicians Assistants.

    Dr. Carson,
You have hit the nail on the head. I'm certain that if you were white, you would be slandered by the liberal media for your comments. The fact that they do not dare attack a black man solely because of his race is evidence that they are the true racists. That is, they don't believe that members of minority groups are worthy of the same standard of scrutiny, and therefore they insultingly treat them as inferiors rather than equals.
Thank you for your comments. Keep up the good fight!

The Democratic Party is all about slavery, in every way. They have enslaved the black community for decades, and kept that community entirely dependent on the political party, instead of allowing them to move forward in society.

Obama simply seeks to take over America in earnest, and have a total dictatorship, by the political party, even if he steps down, at some point in time (who knows when.)

The only thing standing between Obama and total dictatorship in America, is the House. If the Dems get control of the House, Obama WILL become a total dictator. His control of the media, prevents anything negative about his actions from reaching the majority of the people, because he controls 4 news networks, including this one.

The majority of the people in America have absolutely no idea, just how close, Obama really is, to becoming a for real, dictator."

This is literally one of the dumbest things I've ever read, and I'm a middle school teacher.

This guy is NOTHING like the late, great MLK. If Dr. King was ANYTHING like him, he would have NEVER been assassinated.

I'll leave it at that and see if this one makes it thru....

Teatrolls; "Yeah, hi Ben, we need you to come over here and make some racist comments we'd like to hear but can't say ourselves because we're white...and everyone knows that if a black person says it, it makes it ok."

Ben: "No problem. Have the check ready when I get there."

I have a very interesting question. People are saying this shutdown is costing the government billions of dollars. Why? If the governement is not paying all of these people, closing facilities, furloughing workers, how can it be costing so much. A furlough means off without pay. I have suffered these for the last four years; mandatory days off without pay. They have cost me thousands of dollars each year, yet they are now saying those furloughed workers in the federal government will be paid for the time they are off. I raise the BS flag on this one. If you didn't work, you shouldnt get paid. That is the idea behind furlough; save money.

I suppose the next thing these guys will be saying is that the mandate to buy car insurance is indentured servitude. What a bunch of malarky! I have no idea where you guys get your inspiration, but now that we've dipped our toe into universal healthcare coverage, ACA is sounding more like emancipation.

Free at last, thank GOD Almighty, free at last.

Dr. Ben Carson suffers from psychosis. He is the worst thing that happened in American politics. He doesnt need to educate Americans on controls as his uncontrolled utterances are perfect examples of how riotous his uncontrolled mouth could unleash evil evocations on suffering masses instead suggesting a better cure. He should see himself as part of US political problems not any means to solving them.,

NameCraig. I am not smoking anything. I am a 25 year old who works for a large company and does very well for myself. I make over 6 figures and have no issue paying my fair share of taxes. That is no way socialism. I put myself through college, pay my own bills and am educated. I can surely think for myself. If you look up the definition of socialism in the dictionary, it is FAR from the US. This healthcare bill is far from perfect, I pay for my own insurance through my employer and there is NO I mean NO effect on who I can see and losing my current coverage. The republicans have fed this socialism idea to it's followers about healthcare. The US is one of the only countries that refuses to address this issue. Once again, the ACA is not perfect, but it is not a way to control people. If you thought for yourself you would see this.

He's also said Obama is the worst president since Lincoln, whom he ranks as the worst president in history: Rick faults Lincoln for NOT allowing the South to secede, and expressed his joy when the Lincoln Memorial was vandalized recently. Get used to his tirades, he's a regular.

    Hi Brian.
First welcome. You have to be new to this forum because all of Rick's comments are basically the same. He's our resident secessionist.

He hates Lincoln and claims he stepped on states rights by freeing the slaves and he also blames him for starting the Civil War.

Stick around and read more of his comments. I'd love to get your feedback as a teacher.

Another part of Obamacare has been changed, but can't find that out on CNN. Everyone now has 1 less month to be signed up for insurance or face the penalty. The people in charge of the taxes said something before the administration did, just going to show you how screwed up this is going to be.

Hey every body, better get used to having the Confederate funny munny because that's what the righties want you have. Oh, and better hope that things are good on the Koch Brothers planation where they will work you to death and make you pay them for the privilige. Ironic that Carson whines about slavery, when the people allowing him to speak are the ones planning our enslavement.

How sad, renowned doctor comparing Obamacare to slavery at a KKK rally in DC.

    @ Wake up People!

Nice to see we are of the same mind: I thought I was the only one who remembered Rick's idiotic comments about Lincoln. Another one who was reliably warped was WiredWierdinSF, who always referred to Democrats as ' dope smokers and addicts": only my grandparents refered to anyone as a dope smoker, so I'm pretty sure he may have shuffled off this mortal coil and gone to his just reward.

Wake up People! – There's a guy that only appears when there's a story about Lincoln who is worst than Rick, basically he compares the Secession War with an abusive husband who hires thugs to beat up, rape and such his abused wife when she says 'I am leaving!' to him. Every single time!
As for Rick delusion-du-jour, if Obama actually control '4 news networks', all the majors minus FAUX News obviously, then I would really like (NOT) to hear Rick' explanation about the false-quivalence policy of CNN, for instance.
