House GOP proposal emerges on debt, but not shutdown

Washington (CNN) - An offer by House Republicans to President Barack Obama would temporarily increase the debt ceiling without reopening the government right away, GOP sources told CNN's Deirdre Walsh on Friday.

The proposal followed a White House meeting on Thursday between the President and the House GOP leadership that participants described as positive in tone.

What part of "I'm not going to negotiate with you until you open the gov't" did they have trouble understanding? The GOP/Teatrolls think they can manage to delay the apocalyptic threat of a default for a couple weeks, force concessions out of Obama and the Dems because the gov't remains shut down and they are threatening not to open it back up...then pivot to the debt ceiling again right around Thanksgiving in order to force more concessions. This about them not wanting the two gambits for unwarranted leverage from getting melded together and becoming only one gambit for leverage. They want them separate and discrete so they can threaten their way to concessions twice. Well, he already told them it won't work, the polls are showing massive backfire on this (nobody's numbers are great, but the GOP's are absolutely abysmal) and they're pretty much handing the Dems the House back during the mid-terms. Please proceed, GOPers/Teatrolls, please proceed.

And note: the temporary debt ceiling extension they offered would expire November 22, 2013...BLACK FRIDAY. Yeah, that's right...they're not even trying to hide that they want retail to suffer this Xmas in order to prevent the holiday shopping season from having a positive effect on recovery.

    NOT. HAPPENING.

So Republicans plan to release one hostage but continue the standoff. And they think this will make everything better? Have they seen the latest polls on this whole stunt? The Republican party isn't polling so well these days. Keeping the government shut down will cause more anger against Republicans. I swear Republicans have a gambler's addiction. They seem convinced their next silly stunt is going to be the big winner, even though all their past stunts have failed. These delusional people need help. If only they had Obamacare...

    Lynda Minnesota:
Seems like your visa has been renewed, or more than likely a new shift has come in to moderate.
Either way I can't bring myself to comment on turds, rands , and the ryans. These people are just beneath anybody's measuring stick for folks that you have represent you.
The Turd's ridiculous and contemptible utterings about his President are frankly stunning. He may have attended Harvard but somebody must've paid out the ying-yang to keep him at a place so far above his intellectual grasp.
Rand Paul saying and that whole Muslim Brotherhood crap vis-a-vis the CIC? Really?
And the media's transparent attempt at positioning Lyin Ryan as a fiscal genius is just beyond the pale.
    I can usually play along.
    Not today.
Fight the good fight for us. I'll try to jump in when and if allowed.
Safe and enjoyable weeked to you and the rest of our gang.

Try NOT to cave in this time, Mr President...

If you wouldn't have capitulated the first time. we wouldn't HAVE this nonsense going on. For such a brilliant guy, I don't understand how you couldn't see that they were never going to work with you in the first place, unless you held their feet to the fire.

I was just about to post that when I saw your comment, Sniffit. Amazing to me repubs proposed this ... but then again, they assume we're all as dumb as their base.

How many shell-shocked veterans do you think it will take being thrown into the street before one of them goes crazy with a bottle of whiskey and a gun–and starts treating all these manchild politicians to a bullet in the head?

Apparently they don't want to understand. They're so convinced of their own self-righteous perfection that it is impossible for them to ever be wrong. They also must think that everyone else has less common sense than they do, and cannot see through their sophmoric games. This offer is an insult to anyone with more than a 5th grade education.

The facts are that there is nothing to negotiate, mainly because the Tea Party hasn't brought any bargaining chips to the table besides shutdown to the table to negotiate with, They must figure if you don't have any leverage [better known as winning elections] then manufacture it. They remind me of Terl.

Same to you. I am out of here myself. We're heading up north to witness (and rake) the fall colors over the weekend. Just between us (shh it is a secret) the Ryan goes to Washington talking points aren't going anywhere fast ... hence the third additon today. Neither are the Cruz articles. The Rand Paul articles. And so on. Word on the street is that the Brothers-Koch have pulled their paid trolls of their bankroll accounts. We'll see if CNN follows.

The really sad part about this offer is that actually expect people to believe that they are serious. What's even scarier is the reality is that they don't see anything wrong with what they're offering. Worst of al, there's no explaining it to them.

The only time the gop governs is when their rich donors are at risk of losing money, if there is a default, look at how they jump to make a deal, but when it comes to the poor and middle class which are most affected by the shut down they have no problems delaying it. I hpoe people are realising this. Mr President stand your ground all or nothing.
