Debt ceiling crisis could leave millions in lurch

(CNNMoney) - Social Security recipients. Doctors who treat Medicare patients. Military pensioners. Companies with federal contracts. Government workers. Bond investors.

If Congress fails to raise the debt ceiling in time, anyone owed money by the federal government could eventually be left in the lurch.

    Republicans create confusion and uncertainty only when they are not on vacation. The GOP has a record of economic disaster from 1929, through the 80's, and for the big recession of 2008, 2011, and 2013. Quite a record of ineptness.

    Unfortunately, the delusional party (the GOP/TP) doesn't believe a word of that. Perhaps handcuffs and trip to Gitmo will convince them of that reality if they don't allow the debt ceiling to rise.

    CNN, don't get all bent out of shape..... you guys already know this is all political theatre.....just ask Gloria Borger.... not to mention the Dow....they know it, as well. If it wasn't all theatre, the Dow would drop like a lead balloon

    Dems are asking for nothing to fix this. Boehner and Cantor can fix with 2 words, "let's vote". Do you people on the right really want to align yourselves with the likes of Rick McDaniel (brainless)?

    So,
    The rubber meets the road. The Liberal's are making it as hard as possible to enact "Dummy" Care. People need jobs a lot more than they need Obama Care. With Obama Care you get Food Stamps and maybe a Welfare Check. Intelligent? Good luck!!

    Who has made it as hard as possible to create jobs in this economy? Your people have. If you put half as much thought into working, rather than blogging, maybe you could post something with a straight face, Ray, and have the actual experience to back it up

    So let me get this straight, because I don't agree with our govt and believe we spend way too much money I have now turned into a rebel (someone who wants to overthrow the govt). You are so short sighted and shallow.

    When Barack Obama voted to default on our debts in 2006, he was doing that because he felt that Bush was spending too much money and govt was irresponsible. Well, here it is in 2013 and that is exactly how I feel. We waste money. We are involved in places like Libya and Egypt and Afghanistan. We are now spending 91 million dollars on a website (not a complete new business) and there is no accountability. I have a president that demonizes his oppposition and makes markets more nervous rather than trying to calm things down. I have a congress that is so disfunctional, on both sides, that it is scary. I have people on here thinking I am an awful person because I don't believe in the govt's ability, whether it is run by Bush or Obama. It's a really sad state. And I do believe that much like our last president (either you're with us or you're with the terrorists) I have one that is equally divisive. It's a bummer.

    You Obama haters need to google: "Boehner and Cantor change rules". This has been reported for several days. What's up CNN, where's your coverage?

    As a disabled individual I have had the opportunity to live in a retirement home and witness the anguish of our seasoned citizens when broached with issues regarding the cost of their care. It is heartbreaking to witness an elderly person being told by their family that they can't afford to care for them any longer, not by choice but by economic need. Particularly those who had saved and prepared only to have Wall Street collapse and lose it all, be very careful before casting blame on those who you deem as unworthy of the support they receive via SS and Medicare, Medicaid, Food stamps etc... One day it could be yourself!!!

    @The Real Tom Paine
    And I guess your name is what you would want Tom Paine to think because if you read Common Sense you would realize that he would not be for anything that a progressive liberal is for today. I apologize for the copy/paste, Data, but it's Thomas Paine's quote:

    “SOME writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins. Society is produced by our wants, and government by wickedness; the former promotes our happinesspositively by uniting our affections, the latter negatively by restraining our vices. The one encourages intercourse, the other creates distinctions. The first is a patron, the last a punisher.”

  12. GOP = Greed Over People

    Which party has vowed to shut down the government if they could not defund Obamacare(s) but are the first to whine when a closed memorial gets in the way of their photo op?

    @tom I
    And do you know what Paine was saying with that? Also, you must remember the climate ant time frame in which Paine was writing this as it really carries no weight as to the arguments you wish to make today.
    Quit playing the victim tom I, it is ugly and a coward's way out. If you are going to hold beliefs then unapologetically defend them and quit whining when the other side rips them apart (because they are weak). Hold a position or don't take it....

    @Fish–thank you very much for your post. Some of these people that comment have not lived long enough to experience what life is really about. Perhaps they should visit a retirement or nursing home, volunteer at a food bank and get out of their bubble. One day if they are blessed they too may be old and needing help.

    I'm impressed Ol Yeller. You actually had a comment that wasn't one long talking point. I have never disavowed my positions. I don't think I'm a victim of anything other than a bunch of close minded progressives on here who whine all day about the big bad repubs and how they have made life for Pres Obama so difficult! The only whining comes from your pathetic side and is being led by someone who has no leadership capabilities other than to be a Saul Alinsky. You guys are so sad that you believe his nonsense. A true leader does not point fingers and blame others (the victim role, as you would say). A true leader brings people together. It has everything to do with his positions. Look at how they supported him when he was ready to bomb Syria. You cry racism for everything yet when the repubs support someone like Ben Carson, you say it's only because of the color of his skin. In all actuality, the side that doesn't care about race is the conservative side. You're the ones that think they still need help. I will always beleive in my fellow American more than I will believe in the govt. That's the difference You, being the naive person taht you are, actually believes in the govt and that one party (dems) actually care about you. They don't. Some day you might realize that when you take your blinders off. Until then, good luck with govt being more and more involved in everything.

    To Tom 1 who quotes Thomas Paine ('Society is produced by our wants, and government by wickedness...'): Aside from the fact T. Paine was speaking of Eropean governments in the 1760s, if this were a true statement then I presume you have been at war forever with the USA's founding fathers, the US military's position in WWII, etc etc. No, Tom, ALL government is NOT wicked. SOME are maybe. Ours is messed up, but only a few of the clowns are wicked, the rest just incompetent.

    That will be entirely because of OBAMA, and NO ONE ELSE!

    The man who would destroy all of America.
