Shutdown hits hot Washington economy

Washington (CNNMoney) - For every day the government shutdown continues, the local economy surrounding Washington, D.C., loses another $220 million.

Losses have been mounting since the shutdown began, with companies and contractors that depend on the federal government, federal workers, and tourism especially hard hit.

Isn't that a shame. They think if the rest of us suffer it's just fine, but let them have to buy a generic brand of toothpicks, and the world comes tumbling down. CREEPS.

So who are the one's hurting jobs Republiklans? Don't answer that because you morons live in a constant of denial. You all deserve to be thrown out of office & be tried for treason for intentionally sabotaging the economy. These people aren't going to get that revenue back, nor will the furloughed federal workers get paid and be able to catch up on bills they've falling behind on due to your incompetence.

The federal government is now borrowing 200 million dollars every hour, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. How can this be sustained? It can't and we all are going to pay a heavy price for this irresponsible government spending.

I am an independent who is baffled by the clueless democrats who should have gotten spending under control when they controlled both the house and senate and could have passed any spending and budget resolution they wanted. Instead, all we got was a massive new government spending program that we can't afford.

I voted for Obama in 2008 but couldn't the next term since he failed to do what he promised about reducing the federal debt.

The US dollar is soon to lose its status as the world currency due to its massive out-of-control government spending. This will be catastrophic for the quality of life for all Americans and will seriously burden future generations.

If the debt ceiling is raised again, then it is hopeless. Washington does not have the resolve to solve this issue. The consequences will be devastating. The question is not about whether this will happen, but WHEN will it happen.

Hey the GOP really knows that working is for suckers and mooks, anyway. We should all donate our time and work for nothing: that way, the GOP gets the slave labor force they want.

its interesting that you blame Democrats for this when they controlled the WH and the Congress for only 2 years: the GOP had control of Congress for 12 years, with a GOP White House for 6 of those 12 years: they blew the federal debt out of the water, yet no where do you asssign blame to that. You clearly do nto understand what the debt ceiling is, so its worthless to try and explain it to you, so lets look at this strictly in terms of politics. The only GOP president who admitted that a tax increase was needed was Bush 41, and the conservatives primaried him in '92, fatally wounding him. With the revenue from that tax increase coupled with the reductions in defense spending and welfare reform under Clinton, we had budget surpluses: what happens in 2001? The same, failed GOP crap on tax cuts and spending increases.

Everyone who is suffering from the government shut down should give thanks the Republican Tea Partiers. Repay them by voting them out of office in 2014.
