Some furloughed by shutdown turn to charities for food

Calvert County, Maryland (CNN) – Getting out of her car, the wife of a furloughed government worker walked toward a small building full of free food.

She approached the door with her head down. An attendant asked for her name, she looked up and began to sob.

"It's ok, it's not your fault," the volunteer said as she wrapped her arms around the crying woman.

The GOP (if they had any conscience) should be ashamed of their myopic, self-serving actions. This is what happens when people put party before country.

It's incredible that 42% of Americans think that this unqualified, incompetent, dishonorable, ego-driven fraud is doing a good job. Take a moment. Admit it to yourself. You know who his supporters are. They are the people that YOU support - financially.

Did you notice who Obama threatened when he wasn't getting his way on raising the debt ceiling? He threatened to not pay:

    – Social Security Retirees

    – Military Retirees

    – Social Security Disability, and Federal Retirees.

    – Now let this sink in really well...

    – He did not threaten to stop payments to illegal aliens.

    – He did not threatened to take frivolous benefits such as Internet access away from violent inmates.

    – He did not offer to fire some of the thousands of unnecessary federal employees that he hired.

    – He did not offer to cut down on his or his wife's frivolous gallivanting around. $20 Million already spent on family vacations. (One Million on a FL golf outing). All our money...why not?

    – He did not threaten to not pay the senators and representatives or any of their staff.

    – He did not threaten to take benefits away from welfare recipients or to stop the free cell phones they get.

    – He did not threaten the food stamp programs.

    – He did not threaten to reduce payments in foreign aid.

    – He did not threaten to cut back on anything that involves his base voters.

    – The list could go on and on. He is in full political mode!

Why are we allowing this person to destroy this wonderful country with his selfishness and his lies? Have WE lost our blooming minds!!!!!!!!

His type of change is killing our country. He needs to be stopped.

Do not forget about his tactics when it's election time 2014.

Get out and Vote in the mid-term election – 2014. Support the people in the House and Senate that are willing to cut taxes and spending.

Thanks to the inept speaker being led around by his nose by the baggers, we are well on our way to the destruction of the global economy by the GOP.

ED1 – You appear to be shocked that so many programs would be affected by the GOP shutdown. As for the rest, do some fact checking from sources other Hannity and Beck, and admit you are wrong.

I may be mistaken, but I think Karen is referring to the last pay period ended on October 3, the next pay period ends on the 17th, so they haven't missed a paycheck yet.

I voted for Obama and no one supports me. I am tax paying free thinking individual. You might recall that most all red states who DID NOT vote for Obama are poor states which take more from the Federal coffers then they give, whereas blue states are the donor states.... giive more than they take. Food for thought...
ED1 you might want to cut it down to only 14 hours of rightwing radio a day.... help you with your blood pressure (P.S. you can stop buying gold).

Really? People like me are what makes this country tick. People like you are nothing more than tools for people who've either never struggled or forgot where they came from. I've been down and out, but I've never had my hand out. If I needed to, though, I would want to make sure there was something there to help me out. Only the arrogance of people like you, who treat misfortune as a joke and a source of ridicule and who despise those who give back, keeps this country from moving forward. I'll keeping dogging you and your lies with facts and with the scorn you've earned: don't think we'll ever back down, because we won't. As far as a nanny is concerned, you can't display an original thought or observation because you are too afraid to, so you revert to ridicule and deflection. The Right is full of fear: fear of change, fear of really working or struggling to make this world a better place. You settle for being an animal: we rise above it.

This whole mess has made you completely unreasonable. You used to listen to the other side. Now you call people who don't agree with you rebels. And you only blame repubs. Amazing how the president and dems have no culpability. You are exactly the reason why I have such a problem with BO. He has made you think that the other side is a bunch of evil people.

    ======================================================================

I don't have time to cover all of these, so I won't. So let's just cover a few, okay?

First, Obama has no authority to cut Congress' pay. He just doesn't have that authority. As someone who works in the cell phone industry, I can tell you that the Lifeline service is not free and certainly not common. In fact, most of the working class customers I work with don't have a cell phone at all. So quit talking out your rear about that.

He /is/ threatening to cut foreign aid and aid in the form of food stamps. By 33%. I don't think you understand that Obama's being forced to cut /everything/, from defense to welfare to social security, all because your far-right hyperconservatives are too much of whiny children to raise the debt ceiling.

But I've got a call coming in, so talk more about this later.

    -------------------------------------------------
    Self-serving yes. Myopic? No.
Here's how they've spun all of their previous self-serving actions/temper tantrums: It is the President's fault, or they try to come charging in like the heroes (let's open up some parts of the federal government).
This used to play out well to a typically uninformed, perpetually fearful electorate, unfortunately for them we've caught on to their spins and the President is making sure that we hear directly from him what is truly transpiring.
The jig is up for the GOPeeing Teatards.
