Shutdown shuts down 'do not call' registry

Washington (CNN) – Victims of identity theft or those hoping to sign up for the "National Do Not Call Registry" are getting a cold shoulder thanks to the partial federal government shutdown.

The Federal Trade Commissions website is down, meaning that identity theft victims looking for advice on what steps to take won't be able to obtain the information. It also means consumers trying to limit the number of telemarketing calls they receive by signing onto the national registry are also out of luck.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says that only 23 of its 540 employees  are working, meaning that there are no inspections at U.S. ports or any field investigations. Among the tasks of those inspectors: evaluating whether toys coming into the country's ports pose choking hazards.

And National Transportation Safety Board Chair Deborah Hersman says more than 1,000 investigations have been halted because of the partial government shutdown

" It is unbelievable that Democrats would be in favor of a double standard of better treatment for the lawmakers than the citizens of this country in regards to Obamacare. "

Requiring a large employer, the gov't, to provide insurance coverage for its employees, and allowing those people to be eligible for subsidies if they are not getting employer provided insurance, are getting their insurance on the exchanges and qualify for a subsidy is not a double standard. It is, in fact, the manner in which the ACA treats every single person and employer in this country.

The registry is pretty much impotent, anyway. Telemarketers completely ignore the laws. They spoof the Caller ID on your phone so that you cannot tell where the call is actually coming from. One of the most popular spoofed phone numbers is "000-000-0000", which you cannnot even type into the registry because it tells you that it is invalid.

Some phone service providers offer a service feature that allows you to block specific phone numbers from calling you.

Obama pulling his Sequester tactics again. Hurt the public as much as possible to forward his agenda if having his Chinese Express Credit Card limit raised.

How's that $7 billion pledge to Africa going? Really could have used the funds to pay the bills.

There is no exemption from Obamacare for Obama or the lawmakers. However, the federal government can continue to subsidize its employees' insurance plans, like any other employer in the nation.

I seriously doubt people are worried about a few bothersome phone calls when many will not recieve their benefit checks! I have a 76 yr old mother, 2 of my neighbors, a vet & a person w/medical complications, are soon going to be left out in the cold by this insane shutdown, which the Tea Party calls #winning! Yet they are rich & still getting a paycheck, so I guess they are 'winning' while the most vulnerable among us are losing! This behavior of the people who are supposed to represent citizens is Unconscionable & Sick!! They need psychiatric help & another job, because their people skills & basic human consideration is Nil!!!

I guess that explains why we are getting about 10 calls a day from clowns wanting to sell us something for old folks. I usually promise to rip their liver out and beat them with it if they call again.

Word on the street is that Boehner and the rest of the sociopaths in the GOP/Teatrolls are considering passing a bill with their demands in it today and then leaving town. COWARDS.

By definition, the above is delusional thinking. Things are not shutting down because of the sequester. Things are shutting down because the Tea Party thinks that the government shutdown means they are cutting spending.

So how long will it take the Tea Party to pass a bill to fund this government program? How many more unfunded appropriations bills will the Tea Party House pass?

You see, the Tea Party has yet to figure out that the only way the dozen or so appropriations bills they've passed over the last two weeks can be funded is if they allow the country to raise the debt limit and borrow money. How long will it take for them to realize that they blueberry pie all over their faces?

The Right is amazing. It shuts down the government than stands in wonderment and awe at what is closed, lost, or otherwise unavailable. Like children, they ascribe those losses not to their own actions but to the President- who has almost nothing to do with the nation's budgeting or spending processes.Ahhhh, delightful ignorance.

Sir- are you unaware of the dollars wasted because of the shutdown already? $6 billion is chickenfeed by comparison.
Just more "fically conservative" Right-wingers wasting more tax dollars- rubes.

This is just another CNN story being promoted because the White House sent it over for them to publish.

This is no big deal. The American people can live with out this for a couple of weeks.

The sad part is that the Do Not Call list exempts politicians from soliciting for money. Guess who called my
neighbor yesterday.........................None other than Ted Cruz minion, wanting money to fight for defunding
    Obamacare.
Wish they would call me. I have a few suggestions for them.

@Richard Long – "How's that $7 billion pledge to Africa going? Really could have used the funds to pay the bills."

Please read the following from Business Day and educate yourself. We are just one of the 27 nations making the total $7.3 billion pledge over 3 years. It is exhausting to debate you conservatives, because so much effort has to be made in trying to educate you – an impossible task. You believe not what is accurate, but simply what you want to believe.

"Participants in the African Development Fund have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Africa’s continuing process of economic transformation, with a total replenishment amount of $7.3 billion for 2014 to 2016. Millions of Africans stand to benefit from improved energy supply, transport networks, water and sanitation, education and agricultural productivity."

"Representatives from 27 participating countries (four of which are African) on September 26, concluded their discussions on the 13th replenishment of the African Development Fund (ADF-13). The ADF is the concessional window of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, which contributes to poverty reduction and economic and social development in low-income African countries."

Do you think these TP members have any idea how much a default would cost U.S. Taxpayers in the form on interest on the outstanding debt over the next 10 years? Ignorance, hate, and fear do not make good public policy.

Oh brother. These things are happening because there's no choice. What don't you understand about that?

The GOP/Teatrolls set fire to the gov't and now they want to complain that their refusal to fund the gov't has resulted in no firemen coming to the rescue and the hoses running dry.
