Ted Cruz won't rule out another shutdown, aide tells CNN

(CNN) - Tea party favorite Sen. Ted Cruz isn't ruling anything in our out in his continued fight against Obamacare, including efforts to force another government shutdown, an aide to the lawmaker has told CNN's Dana Bash.

It was Cruz's ultimately futile attempt in the Senate to tie renewed federal spending to defunding the health care law championed by President Barack Obama that helped trigger the two-week shutdown.

Critics of the Texas Republican in and out of the GOP argue that Cruz knew the tactic would never work, with any substantive change to Obamacare unacceptable to Democrats.

While the GOP's favorable rating in opinion polls plummeted even worse than Democrats during the shutdown and debt ceiling saga, Cruz's star has shot up among conservatives.

The freshman legislator now enjoys widespread name recognition and popularity with the tea party, potentially key ingredients for a 2016 White House bid.

While the defund tactic failed and shutdown was lifted with a predominantly cosmetic change to the Affordable Care Act, Cruz has declared victory nevertheless.

"Months ago, when the effort to defund Obamacare began, official Washington scoffed. They scoffed that the American people would rise up," Cruz said Wednesday as the compromise that ended the fiscal impasse was heading toward Congressional approval.

Cruz spent those months traveling the country, calling for a "grassroots tsunami" that would force action on Obamacare, a tsunami Cruz claims to have gotten.

"We saw, first of all, millions upon millions of Americans rise up all over this country. Over two million people signing a national petition to defund Obamacare," Cruz said.

–CNN's Bryan Koenig contributed to this report.

It's about time one of his keepers put a lid on him. Maybe he's too stupid to figure it out, but the American people are not, repeat not going to stand for anymore stabs in the back. And that goes for the democrats too. At this point it's a safe bet that if there were elections tomorrow, none of the existing parasites would return to their positions. Quit listening to the polls and see for yourselves. The people are fed up.

His statements only proves there are 2 million sheep who thrive on misinformation. The tea potty is humorously confused in thinking their numbers could beat any democratic contender for POTUS. Such dumb people!

If Texas has a recall law, it needs to be used. Ted Cruz is more dangerous to the United States than bin Laden was.

Now that Teddy Cruz is the New Commander of Grief of the the Lost Patrol . He will soon be on the Senate floor reading us How the Grinch Stole Christmas !

His whole purpose is to obstruct anything that will better this great country .
I myself would like ask him why he wants to make the United States of America look like a second class nation ?
This man has done more damage to our standing in the world then GW Bush.

Okay America.. this FRESHMAN Senator needs to be put in his place.
His threats effect more than the Democrats.
They effect Gov workers, ordinary Americans, and the global economy.
This Right Wing wacko DOES NOT have America in his best interests, he has his OWN political hopes, and he's using the "well i was elected to do this" excuse to keep up his economic terrorism.

Well I voted for Obama on the platform of OBAMACARE, so Rafael Cruz, your argument is null because I AM the American people as well, and affordable health care is what i want.

What Americans DONT WANT is a Government Shutdown.

Working Gov > Shutting down Gov over Obamacare

Deal with it or please resign.

Sen Ted Cruz and his Tea Party supporters need a civics lesson. If you want things to go your way, go out and win elections. Grow up and stop acting like spoiled brats.

I think the next time Mr. Cruz elects to help waste another $24 billion, that we arrest him and his demented followers and put them away for sedition and terrorism. It will be a whole lot cheaper as a solution, and the nation will be a whole lot better off not having this tin-pot dictator telling the mentally soft Republicans what to do.

"Crus traveled the country"........on whose dime?

Now this idiot has a crook in his corner in the name of Tom DeLay. There he was, big as life on CNN, saying
"real" people think of Cruz as a hero and calling the President "Arrogant in Chief".
Arrogance is the middle name of Cruz and DeLay.
So, we have Cruz accepting the rantings of Klayman and, no doubt, feeling pretty good about having the
    "Hammer" call him a hero.
If any of you accept this, you had better watch your backs. They are dangerous.

Interestingly his parents benefited greatly from using the healthcare system in Canada. Come to think of it, his comrade the Queen of Crosshairs uses the Canadian healthcare system a lot for her family. Obamacare was fashioned after that system. Hmmmm .... "H" is for hypocrit.

In 16 days Cruz caused 800,000 people to become unemployed and flushed 24 billion dollars down the toilet. This makes him a conservative hero?! In the private sector he would been fired immediately.

It's to the point where I can't stand to see this guy's face. There's got to be a name for whatever mental illness he suffers from; turning everything around to where it's the other person's fault, and recently claiming victory in what was undoubtedly a Tea Party defeat. He scares me!

Oh no, that train left the station. The GOP won't allow this Tea Party kamikaze to finish ruining the Republican brand. Cruz did enough damage to his party with his current shenanigans.

Ok, it's confirmed. Ted Cruz DOES NOT want to be POTUS. At least not on this side of the parallel world the GOP bottom-feeders are living in.

Cruzy proudly touts his 2 million followers, but forgets that POTUS Obama won the election by more than 5 million and that there are over 40 million uninsured who will benefit from Obamacare. You're touting a pretty paltry figure there Cruzy. What is 2 million in comparison to the total population – like 1%? And I suppose 1 million were from his Tea Party district in Texass.

  23. Winning

LOL, he got only 2 million signatures after advertising about it constantly for over a month. How can he be deluded enough to think that small percentage of signatures in any way is the will of the American electorate, especially in comparison to the 54 million or so votes that the president got after campaigning on exactly this issue. What a sanctimonious, delusional fool.

  25. Do the math

Two million adult signatures- that's 1-2% of Americans in the US? That's a lot of individual support for one man, but it is no baseline for how the majority of us feel. Sorry! The same number of people probably tune in to reality TV on a regular basis, does that mean Ryan Seacrest should run our gov't?
