Police investigating threats against Ted Cruz

Washington (CNN) – U.S. Capitol Police are investigating threats made Friday on Twitter against Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz, who gained national notoriety following his high-profile stand pushing Republicans to only allow the federal government to be funded if Obamacare was not. When the Senate refused to go along, the 16 day government shutdown resulted – and Ted Cruz became the de-facto face of it.

The posts came from a man who identifies himself as a military veteran and included, “Ted Cruz needs to be taken out,” and, “Take down Ted Cruz, at his home.”

“We are looking into the threats made on Twitter,” U.S. Capitol Police spokesman Officer Shennell Antrobus told CNN.

Cruz’s office confirmed the matter has been referred to the police.

“We are aware of the threats and have notified the proper authorities,” said Cruz’s spokeswoman Catherine Frazier.

The law enforcement investigation was first reported by The Hill.

–CNN's Kevin Bohn contributed to this report.

Good thing for Ted the gov't is back in business so the Capitol Police can investigate. Of course, they were working during the shutdown – without pay, thanks to Ted and his Tea Party gang

29 % of Texans 18 and older lack health insurance. That is unAmerican. Florida is at 23%, just ahead of Georgia and Wyoming. ACA is not the problem, the GOP is the problem.

There is no place in our or any other political system for violence or threats of violence, whether from the left or the right. I am disturbed and outraged by threats against Cruz and against President Obama.
The genius of our political system is in elections: bloodless revolutions. We cannot allow our system to disintegrate into violence and we cannot allow our electoral system to be hijacked by those who seek to disenfranchise voters or to subvert the will of the electorate by gerrymandering or any other political gimmick.

The threats must be coming from his fellow Republicans, since Cruz managed to make them look even worse then they could themselves.

Too bad that Cruz cannot run for president since he is not a natural born citizen.

You through dynamite into a fire and then you are shocked at the explosion. Cruz and his like never cease to amaze.

The veteran could have meant "take him down at home" meaning for the people to vote against him in his home district and take him out. Communicating is not as easy as people think. If the person uses words like Kill, shoot etc. then it is a death threat but there are different meanings for example take him down by praying for him to loose the next election. Just my view in this case.

The American people will "see the light" and see that Cruz does not represent the people in his district. Come election time if they are smart which I think they are will boot him out of office ans send him packing.

The threat probably came from Republicans. According to a recent NBC-Wall Street Journal Poll, the government shutdown that he spearheaded actually made Obamacare more popular.

Ted Cruz should be threatened....AT THE BALLOT BOX! Threatening the life and safety of any of our politicians is reprehensible, no matter how much we don't like them. If you don't like someone, then work to get them out of office. That's what elections are for!

I may not agree with his politics but threatening to put him away is not right! Too many crazies in this country right now. Maybe the Vet is suffering from PTSD and needs help. I hope he gets the help our vets need.
I do want to thank him for his service nevertheless.

If you didn't lock up Sarah Palin, leave this man alone. In Moose-girl speak, " take him out at home" means vote him out of office in Texas.

I agree. It probably was a rebuglican making threats. That's the way they do things. With stupidity and ignorance. As for cruz. Makes no difference to me if they take him out. Might be entertaining tv at news time. :)

Sure Felix, that veteran COULD have meant that. If libs played fair however, they would have recognized the same thing about, for example, Palin's crosshairs on the district she wanted voters to change. However, she caught a lot of flak from the left for that graphic. Liberals are the biggest hypocrites, they can't see their own failings, but can clearly see everyone else's.

Surprise surprise that the lefties are the ones once again advocating violence against those they don't agree with. Good thing we conservatives are the ones who are armed in this equation.

This doesn't surprise me in the least – he frustrated many of us over the past several weeks – he threatened the entire nation for the past several weeks – Of course what could one expect from this McCarthy twin....

Cruz is an ass in every way possible. But there's no place for physical threats. The guy has a right to his views, no matter how twisted.

This domestic terrorist's devilish, evil and destructive attempts to destroy the democratic process, the Govt., the U.S. and the world economies make him a legitimate target for Homeland Security and genuine patriots even now and if he were ever to succeed with the help of his brainless cohorts, he and his enablers could expect nothing less than to be hunted down in the streets by angry mobs like the rabies stricken, mad dogs they are.....
