Police investigating threats against Ted Cruz

Washington (CNN) – U.S. Capitol Police are investigating threats made Friday on Twitter against Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz, who gained national notoriety following his high-profile stand pushing Republicans to only allow the federal government to be funded if Obamacare was not. When the Senate refused to go along, the 16 day government shutdown resulted – and Ted Cruz became the de-facto face of it.

The posts came from a man who identifies himself as a military veteran and included, “Ted Cruz needs to be taken out,” and, “Take down Ted Cruz, at his home.”

“We are looking into the threats made on Twitter,” U.S. Capitol Police spokesman Officer Shennell Antrobus told CNN.

Cruz’s office confirmed the matter has been referred to the police.

“We are aware of the threats and have notified the proper authorities,” said Cruz’s spokeswoman Catherine Frazier.

The law enforcement investigation was first reported by The Hill.

–CNN's Kevin Bohn contributed to this report.

Cruz will do anything for attention – and if he was hoping for sympathy, well he didn't get any of mine. Does he think that everyone really likes him? I read that Nancy Pelosi is better liked than he is in congress and that's saying something.

once again, I have to wonder at the lack of knowledge by those who think this man is evil. He is simply refusing to take part in the destruction of a once-great nation by spending it into oblivion. He is a real man of conscience, refusing to allow your kids, grandkids, and great-grandchildren to inherit the mind-numbing debt foisted on us by an idiotic law.......grow up.....educate yourself as to the REAL intentions of the Tea Party. Then, come back on this site and whine about him....

He is not worth the effort. Like Joe McCarthy of the 50s, He will destroy himself. He is the best friend the Dems ever had. He dragged the Repubs into the toilet. Showed the US who they really are like Romney's secret speech.

i don't blame that vet. Ted Cruz deserves a lot more backlash than being a hero in his little bubble.

Those aren't threats, they're comments. A little heated, perhaps, but just comments. And certainly not worth wasting the time of the U.S. Capitol Police, who are far above the standard pay scale of your average Police Officer. Then again, what does Ted Cruz care about wasting taxpayer's money? He's typical of Republicon politicians who tax you, spend on themselves, then blame someone else for it.

Those who tossed out those threats are Anti-American. I disagree with Cruz and found the tactics to be short sighted; but, those who threaten someone's life because they do not agree with them are a real threat to our Democracy.

If you threaten someone's life, you are a threat to our culture. I don't agree with Cruz; but, that is were we engage in discussion not promote harm.

Americans need jobs, then can buy their own health insurance without the government's assistance, a.k.a. taxpayers' money.

People are tweeting and texting so much these days that it is hard to know just what they are saying. The ir writing is not always clear. Nevertheless, Ted Cruz has been very clear in his remarks. He might decide to shut down the government again. Perhaps this time he will foot the bill. His antics cost us all a lot of money at a time when people are struggling. He and Senator Lee did not seem to understand how their actions would effect this nation. They both stood on a platform where a third member of they group made accusations against the President including accusing him of being an al quaida sympathizer and worse. Neither man repudiated those statements. This said more about their character than anything else he did. Great similarities to Joe McCarthy.
