Obama hosts a wedding

Washington (CNN) - President Obama played wedding host this weekend.

Pete Souza, the Chief Official White House photographer, and Patti Lease were married in the Rose Garden Saturday night, according to a White House official.

White House Military Chaplain Stanley Fornea performed the ceremony with roughly 35 family members and friends in attendance, the official said.

Souza has officially chronicled Obama since he was elected president, providing a behind-the-scenes look at the president and first family through the White House Flickr page, his Twitter account and the more recently launched Instagram account.

He served as White House photographer during former President Ronald Reagan’s second term and more recently spent almost a decade at the Chicago Tribune’s Washington bureau, where he recorded then Sen.-Obama’s rise and ultimately wrote “The Rise of Barack Obama.”

"Creating a good photographic archive for history is the most important part of my job, creating this archive that will live on," Souza told PBS in 2010. "This is not so much photojournalism as photo-history."

Congratulations to the happy couple and especially to the groom, Mr. Souza.
Through your insightful pictures I have felt completely connected to THIS President, what he represents, what he is about, the impact that he's had and continues to have on Americans across socio-economic and racial spectrum, and the history that he is creating in real time.
Thank you and God bless your union.

He should be hosting a sit down, get it together meeting with senator and congressmen to get the budget fiasco under control and a short and long term plan to reduce the deficit. He's a empty suit. I am sure he's better at hosting a wedding then leading this country.

I hope this did not cost $24 billion, the same amount republicans added to our national debt for having a hissy fit trying to destroy our economy.

"Obama hosted..." Which is a fancy way of saying taxpayers footed the bill for a friend of Old Barry's to have a White House wedding.

No money for White House tours for school kids, but something in the budget for a little political perkery?

    Disgusting.

Carlos, Anononymous, Sensible, nice that you don't care about cancelled WH Tours. (That cost a fraction of a wedding) but you applaud when money is spend, why don't you call it a STIMILUS

Good grief people. It was a wedding. If you are so worried about spending money, talk to Cruz about the
$24B he wasted feeding his ego and his PAC. Talk to Cantor about his never-ending vacation calendar
for the House. We pay for these idiots running back and forth from home to WA every other week.
You act like the President doesn't earn a salary. Maybe he spent his own money.
Get serious about serious things, and quit whining.

Nice to see the penny wise and pound foolish bickering. Probably did not cost more than the "Mission Complete" banner that another president put up, with the help of tax payer funded labor.

Interesting comments since the title of this article changed from it being a White House wedding. Funny how the stinky fingers come out to point.

How much did that cost the taxpayers? Gov't is sending $1.6b to Pakistan, rewarding corps for outsourcing jobs, threatening to cut social security, and the Obama's take their friends and relatives on 10 million dollar vacations. This is shameful. Stop spending my hard earned money and making us seniors worry about our social security which for me, I have paid into for over thirty years. Elected Washington officials are only self serving and have no regard for the people that they represent. Cut Congressmen salaries and benefits, stop sending Americans money overseas to countries and start investing in this country.

Funny how under educated people think that Obama should do absolutely nothing on his day off. If i remember right, they loved when Pres Bush would go to Texas once a month or more and chop wood at government expense. Nothing in article states that the wedding was not paid for by the

Obama may have hosted, but our tax dollars certainly paid for it ! How does one go about requesting a White House soiree for 35 ? Shouldn't all U.S. taxpayers be able to use this public funded venue ?
