GOP senator: Sebelius the 'laughingstock of America'

Washington (CNN) - It appears Republican Sen. John Barrasso is a loyal viewer of "Saturday Night Live."

The Wyoming Republican referred to the NBC comedy staple as he called Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius the "laughingstock of America" on Sunday morning, a day after the show parodied the glitch-fraught launch of the online federal health care exchange.

The opening sketch on “SNL,” featuring Kate McKinnon impersonating Sebelius, mocked the rough rollout of HealthCare.gov by poking fun at the secretary's repeated pleas to remain calm despite the website's error-plagued debut.

"Tonight, I have a number of friendly tips to help you deal with those technical problems," the Sebelius simulacrum said. "For example, have you tried restarting your computer?"

All jokes aside, Barrasso insisted on ABC's "This Week" that the skit - and Sebelius' response to the website fiasco - have compromised her leadership.

"She's lost considerable credibility," Barrasso said.

As long as there's a republican, with a mouth that he/she can breathe through, it's a toss as to who's the laughing stock.

Loss of credibility? Here's a woman who is trying to help Americans get health care. On the other hand, Bareasso has done everything he can to try and defund the effort instead of trying to help us.
We need some new republicans, ones who actually put the population of this country first, not their own re-election.

The only thing that has lost any credibility is the republican party . It took WBush' Medicare drug program a year before the problems were nearly ironed out . Mr Obama should never listen to people who don't give a damn about the country and would do and say anything to hurt him as much as possible .

  4. The REAL Truth...

Perhaps the esteemed Republican Representative from Wyoming should take a look at the GOP's approval rating prior to pointing fingers about credibility... root canals are considered more favorable.

No, Mr. Barrasso, you have that wrong. THE GOP is the laughingstock of America. You fools can't even figure out your battles much less a strategy that works for your party, much less, America.

Keep going, sir, you are racing towards absolute irrelevancy!

History will favor the ACA move and Sebelius will get credit for helping it off the ground. Sebelius knows insurance. She was stellar in her work as KS insurance comissioner and as KS governor. We just wish she could have stayed governor. Now we have Brownback and the state is practically in a tailspin. I doubt that she was given control of all the computer develoipment contracts for the ACA site. There are "people who do that sort of thing. If I do fault the administration is was that they did not reward the company that did the Obama campaign website with the ACA contract. They were marvelous.

That said, it is not the end of the world to have to enroll on paper or by phone. But additionally the website will be up in plenty of time to get everybody a policy they can afford will the exception of course of those states whose Rebpublican leaders did not accept Medicaid expansion. Many of thosee states did not set up an exchange either, which of course everyone thought they would so the states could have more say in things like they always say they want. Instead, they sacrificed control in order to throw a wrench in the works...sick people and poor people be damned.

to watch obama and friends do business deals is really comical if it wasn't so expensive to the tax payers-obama has zero business experience and it shows-it the corporate world he would not make it because of one word-accountability which does not happen in the obama admin. We will spend over a billion dollars just getting obamacare running--business people cannot afford that-we could have used all that money to feed the poor/clothes/anything but this. McAfee (spelling) said he could have done it for 15 million and had it where info was safe--already 500 plus million???? this is a disaster that makes sandy look safe.

Meanwhile, in the real world, Mr. Barrasso would do well to check the foreign media. The GOP isn't just the laughingstock of America- most of the press around the world thinks they are fools as well. The world doesn't laugh at America because of a glitchy website, it is laughing at us still having a system that denies American citizens healthcare, but goes nuts over the glitchy web site. They are also laughing at the GOP's pathetic and treasonous attempts to crash America's economy, or shirk our bills. They are laughing at the GOP bumpkins of North Carolina, or the foolishness that is Ted Cruz.

The truth is sometimes – well, just the truth. She is the face of this rollout and she failed to deliver. Now because Obama doesn't want to look bad in his choice of hiring an incompetent person, he won't fire her.

Clowns like Barrasso are laughing stocks. The whole world is laughing at the TEA/GOP created shutdown. The whole world is thinking about dropping the U S dollar as the world's ONLY reserve currency because of fools like Embarrasso saying let the U S default on debts largely created by 2 Bush wars, and an unpaid for tax cut to the Wall St millionaires who crashed the economy. TEA/GOP would be a laughing stock if they weren't so pathetic/dishonest. These dangerous traitors need to be swept into history's garbage dump in 2014.

Senator Bareasso is one of the main reasons for lack of health care in America. All the GOPTP can do is obstruct. Where are the jobs you fools promised in 2010?

Anybody with an R after their name calling anybody a laughingstock is really rich. So when healthcare gets all set up and is working fine like SS and Medicare, what do you think the GOP will say then? Because it will get fixed, just as those other programs did.

@ora pike, Funny how you didn't mention that Cruz and Boehner just wasted $24 billion. They both admitted they wanted the govt to shutdown in hopes of getting Obama to back down and allow defunding of Obamacare. Does this large sum of tax payers dollars not count to you, since it wasn't Obama's fault?

For all you Obama-haters out there, google "Medicare Part D" rollout and read about the problems it had (for those of you with the memory span of a gnat, this was back in 2003, under GW Bush).

This is what Boehner said about it at the time: "The implementation has been horrendous. We've made it far more complicated than it should be."

But did Boehner and the repubs call to defund or dismantle it? No. Boehner acknowledged the problems but saw potential in the law and called for improving it. "The good news is that the competition that's being created has lowered premiums significantly below where Congress thought they'd be when we put the bill together, so the competition side is good. I think the implementation side continues to need to be improved."

The only reason Boehner and the repubs now are calling for the dismantling of Obamacare is because it will help Americans in the long run. And, as repubs' words and actions show again and again and again, that's the LAST thing they want – especially if it will make President Obama look good.

Republicans never have a nice thing to say about thing. They are a party of negativism. Anybody in their right mind would not vot for any Republican for President 2016. The current group of Republicans are toxic. No one thinks about the American people in a compassionate way. They are always critisizing, making stupid comments that are untrue and trying to steal the limelight from their own fellow Republicans. Americans take a critical review of the following Republicans; who is kind and intelligent enough to be President of the United States; Ted Cruz, Darrall Issa, Paul Ryan, Cantor, Pallin, Rubio, McConnell, Lindal, J. Bush, Paul Rand, John Boehner, the list goes on and on. Of course there are those who are meaner and dumber than the other. I think the one squeaks the most is the worst of the bunch. Republicans start finding nice things to say and do right by the American people and just maybe we will soften our feelings for you. I am an Independent voter and right now the Democrats got my vote.
