HealthCare.gov homepage gets makeover

Washington (CNN) - An image of a young woman who became known as the "Obamacare girl" is no longer on the homepage of the federal government's health care site.

In the process of changing the homepage of HealthCare.gov to highlight the different enrollment options now being offered, the image of the woman, who has become a symbol of the online federal exchange, was set aside, said an official with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, or CMS.

CMS is the agency responsible for operating the website.

The picture drew much news coverage and online discussion with people wanting to know her identity. A small company that originally worked on the homepage told CNN's Jeanne Moos that the woman was part of the original design mock-up of the website.

HealthCare.gov's quiet makeover is the latest attempt by the administration to draw attention away from the website's problematic launch. When enrollment began October 1, just the website option was highlighted, punctuated by "Obamacare girl." Now, when visiting the site, new imagery emphasizes multiple ways to register for a new health insurance plan, such as enrollment by phone.

Republicans are already seizing on the site's overhaul. NRCC spokesman Matt Gorman wrote in a blog post that the redesign is symptomatic of the Obama administration's misplaced focus - "worrying about what is gracing the front page" instead of repairing the site's serious technical flaws.

"They can keep changing the photos, but what they cannot change is the fact that the site is nothing short of a debacle," Gorman said.

Online updates will continue in response to feedback from website users and social media, according to the official.

The individuals in the images that were initially used for the launch of the website signed standard release forms and understood how their images would be used, said the official, who was not authorized to speak for publication and declined to be identified.

CNN's Jason Seher contributed to this report.

    @PeterD,

"I told President Obama to Outsource the development of Website to India rather than his Ex ACORN Members. But Boy Does He ever Listen?"

Unfunny jokes, no coherent arguments, eh?

""I guess there is no limit to how much taxpayers dollars are going to be put into Obamacare fixes." Cruz wasted how much again shutting down the govt in a naked power grab for his faction of his party? But you only care about what Obama does, naturally.

Last month you guys ridiculed Ted Cruz for standing up against Obamacare. When Democrats rose up in unison to protect Obamacare, they fell in to the trap that Cruz set for them. Now every Democrat in Washington has OBAMACARE"
tattooed across their forehead. The November 2014 elections can't get here soon enough.

She was done in by the Death Squad, if not why is she missing?
    ------------------------
It's likely that she was spotted in public, by both those in support and in opposition to the ACA. I'd expect to the reaction by supporters to be little or nothing. Maybe a chuckle and a selfie, at best. Now if the opposition spotted here, then she probably had to flee for her life a few times. The opposition is in an uproar, thanks to Ted Cruz. I wouldn't put it past her getting a face to face death threat after being spotted in a grocery store.

Yet another projectionist. Look around you, carlos. It's the right wing who has to endure purity tests, thought police, and signing sworn oaths. Worst of all, the right wing answers to poltical comedian Rush Limbaugh.

You do realize that he's a comedian, don't you? I know some forms of humor, particulary satire and sarcasm, are hard for the right wing to recognize or understand, but the man is a comedian, nonetheless.

How many socialist states have failed? Communist Bloc countries don't count; they weren't "socialist" as the term is understood. In any case, your cases will be pretty recent, as there weren't true socialist states until about 150 years ago, at best. Meanwhile, Denmark, a socialist state, was just voted Happiest Nation on Earth.

    The facts. They hurt.

You all just don't get it do you? Ever consider who this disaster is going to hurt? Well, it's the middle class – the same middle class the Dems/Libs say they are fighting for. Hypocrites – all of them. The rich can pay for their own healthcare, the poor will be fully subsidized by the middle class Americans being forced to accept what over 56% don't want. Cram it down our throats. The middle class will slowly get smaller while those in poverty grows. Wake up !

"Comrade Obama is the ultimate socialist failure!!" Heh, I guess so, since he's spent his time in office doing stuff that did nothing to advance the cause of socialism. It's almost as if he doesn't pay any attention at all to your weird fantasies about him. He's also the world's worst Muslim, apparently, declaring war on Muslim countries and reopening the bin Laden cold case again. Maybe you are listening to the hate radio too much?

Why are the countries of the world so upset if you are working unpaid to protect them? If we are living a clean, holy , life, our tail bearers will be blessed by following us (smile)"For there is Nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad" (Mark 4: 22).

Just so you all are made aware. I just renewed my insurance provided to me by the company and was charged over 50% increase in monthly cost for medical with an 5% increase in my deductible. Also, checking the dentist options on Obamacare I was quoted prices starting at $47/month! I only pay $15/month now and it covers me, the wife, and two kids. Even with this steep increase in costs it is still 60% – 70% cheaper then what I could find on Obama's Health website (Obamacare). Sticking with the company insurance will save me a bunch of money. And I don't have to subsidize someone elses insurance like OBY one Kanoobie wants us to do!

@carlos suazo "History has shown over and over again that things never work in a socialist state."

Things are not working in the insurance company free-market right now.

Actually this is about socialized medicine, which we don't have yet, and many civilized countries like Canada, Great Britain, Finland, etc. are doing this quite well for a number of years. Hopefully ACA is a first step towards the US becoming a part of the medical care civilized world.

The fact that the Obamacare website is not working properly is not a good thing. But this is the fact of life of any jobs that is working using a computer networking. For example I am working in a large company Fiance department where we use computer networking is the basis of day to day job. This networking will be shutting down on all of us in my organization almost on a daily basis. However, nobody cares about when it shuting down. And by being patient we mange to use to it. This is to mean that computer problem is not a big deal and as a human being it is something we can deal with it effectively in the process. However on the contrary the fact that the Obamacare passed the nasty GOP repeal for over forty times and the test of the supreme court is a good thing and we Americans will be going forward with it in the future. Thank you,

    Really?
All I can say is I remember that sinking feeling I had for the Republicans political fortunes after no WMD was found in Iraq.
Democrats may not realize it yet, but Obamacare has the potential to be their equivalent of what the Iraq war was for George W. Bush and the Republicans. Go ahead and laugh at me, I don't care. One thing is for sure, Obamacare will touch the lives of nearly every person in this country. This thing is a monumental fiasco at the beginning and this was suppose to be the "easy" part. The really hard part comes when Obamacare is implemented (if ever) because the regulations are STILL being written.
