Rogers: HealthCare.gov isn't secure

Washington (CNN) - The Republican head of the House Intelligence Committee said Sunday that problems with the Obamacare website might leave its potential consumers at risk of identity theft and other cyber crimes. The website, which is supposed to service enrollees in President Barack Obama's signature health care program, came under fire in congressional hearings last week.

On CNN's "State of the Union," Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Michigan, told Candy Crowley that HealthCare.gov is vulnerable to cyberattacks and that the contractors charged with building the website's infrastructure may need to do a complete overhaul.

"They way that the system is designed, it is not secure," Rogers said. "They may have to redesign the entire system."

The Michigan Republican cautioned that, despite the insistence of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius that the site does not store data from customers, there is active collection and storing of consumer information at the weakest points of the website's infrastructure.

"It was very clear to me in the hearing that they do not have an overarching, solid cybersecurity plan to prevent the loss of private information," Rogers said.

In a blog post published Saturday, Sebelius addressed concerns about the system's vulnerability to attacks, reiterating what numerous contractors told Congress during testimony last week: that HealthCare.gov "doesn't retain or store information." Calling the online marketplace a "model of efficiency and security," Sebelius said that the "hub is not a database" and thus will not leave users exposed to cyberthreats.

What is clear is that every two bit politician can bash a plan that will help 45 million uninsured. The right wingnuts have no plan, are incapable of understanding the needs of Americans, and will not be happy until they finish the job Bush started, destroying America.

I cannot believe Americans trust smirking little baggers who almost destroyed the global economy a few weeks ago.

NSA leak is damaging Obama’s image but we can’t attack president because we are for spying

Cite your sources, sir. I realize as a Republican there is a certain leeway in truth-telling. If you have specific, real-live knowledge that Healthcare.gov isn't secure- go for it. This has been an allegation of the Right, but not to this date verified, whether in news reports, or in the hearings.
Or this could just be GOP fear-mongering......

Rather than attack the messenger, look at the message. Techies have been all over the airwaves saying the site is not secure and the navigators and call operators, without background checks, are ripe for employing people who might be engaged in passing on your data to cohorts engaged in identity theft. If you are willing to post your personal and private info on a non secure site or give it to some unknown person on a 1-800 number, then be prepared for the pitfalls that will definitely follow. Already the IRS pays out billions in fraudulent tax refunds to identity thieves. Why give those crooks more easy pickings than they are used to.

I found it hugely amusing Mike Rogers thinks countries like France should be happy and should toast the US spying on them then in the same breath have concerns that joe nobody down the road should be really concerned about Obama care. Twisted view Mike but extremely funny

First off there have been several Republican alternative plans offered. You don't know about them because your media doesn't report on them. Second, did it ever occur to you that our President won because he speaks well. He didn't have any real job experience or as he says "I am not good at math". He also has a massive chip on his shoulder maybe from being half black half white I don't know I am not a shrink but I think that he is unwilling and incapable of admitting when he makes a mistake. Maybe he thinks he will be in trouble. A man who cannot compromise who is incapable of admitting he might have been wrong – cannot lead a nation. Nobody can. He blames the other party but he has been in charge for five years. He doesn't know how to lead, he can't create a job unless it's a service type job like taking a census. His party has run up a debt that will be unsustainable in the long run and nobody ever asks the simple fact of where's the money. This admin just blew almost a billion dollars on an idea that's untested and from all accounts needs a lot of work. Why did they go with this? Why didn't they ask for help? Because again they are too full of arrogance. Didn't you know they already run a national health care system. Yep it's for Native Americans and Alaskan Indians and its been in place since 1950's. It costs the taxpayer a ton of money and is very slow and inefficient so the model is there and that's what you will end up. I say it's the Emperor's New Clothes where the administration runs ineffective ideas and everyone pays him on the back and says great f'ing idea but real Americans are sitting back watching and saying the blokes not wearing a thing. Good luck. Keep those blinders on and wait until more of us quit working. Who will be your tax base then? Ophra Jay Z? Let them support the sheeps for a decade or so than maybe they will admit their man doesn't play well with others.

  16. The REAL Truth...

So the House GOP is wasting [STILL] more taxpayer dollars on another witch hunt, this one over the ACA web site rollout. They're complaining and whining that folks can't sign up for the conservative (ACA) health care plan, it's not secure (leaked by a Republican, duh!), blah. blah blah. This is the SAME group that has tried to repeal the ACA legislation some 42+ times and taken the individual mandate to the SCOTUS and lost!
The irony / hypocrisy is stupendous!

@Working Stiff – you are the classic brainwashed lemming.. President's never admit they are wrong – at least not while in office. Name one that has.. The rest of the rant is EASILY REFUTABLE with plenty of facts.. facts YOU could easily find in the time ti took you to type up your tirade! You are the voter the right loves... low-information, under-informed, and easily fed.

I tried to sign up for health care. Phase 1, I filled out my personal information [name, address, phone number, birthdate, social security number, expected salary for 2014. The got hung up so I started a chat with a live customer service rep to trouble shoot what was going on. 45 minutes and 3 messages later, she sent me a message that they were very busy and she did not time to help me. At that point she signed off and pulled the plug on the health care web site. Now all my very personal info is looping around in cyber space. I don't have any warm fuzzes that my info is secure at all. Pathetic rollout! In corporate the CEO is responsible for everything that happens in the company. He is not in the dark and could never pretend that he did not know what was happening – especially in a project as large as health care. Who exactly is minding America? Folks this is frightening!

@real truth. We have done our research. But keep on screaming louder. You cannot refute what is right. We have spent billions on an idea that was too grandiose to be workable. It tries to be everything but fails miserably. You cannot compare premiums from state to state because the admin doesn't want you to know. What if I move or am planning to move shouldn't I be able to seek info to compare costs. What if the main breadwinner is getting insurance fo the family and than he/she goes on Medicare and the rest of the family needs insurance? What are those alternatives? But keep attacking well meaning voters if it makes you feel real truthful. Our government is too big and too bloated to run effectively. The whines of some are drowning the real issues of our time – jobs, stagnant wages, violence, bullying... You are the voter the left loves...blame others, cry racism, repeat information instead of forming you own opinion, and repeat endlessly until you get your own way. Good luck with that.

  23. Amazing

It is amazing that the GOP airheads like Rogers can only be critics. I have not heard one GOP critic offer an alternative plan to address the healthcare problem, No and kill AHA are not policy choices. The Americans the GOP refers generally likes the AHA but dislikes Obamacare despite the fact they are one in the same.

@real truth I checked out the lemming attack that you made by the way and I have to say that you're absolutely correct. I would be happy to be a lemmings because they seem to be able to survive mass predator attacks. They provide support for everyone else until the predators take 75% to 85% of the lemmings population than it disappears to rebuild for about three years. I would say you local predators would struggle if there were no more lemmings so that's what we will do. We won't work as hard, we won"t buy as much and we will let you predators starve. When you desiccate the lemmings population other species suffer. I hope you can be a tasty substitute because they will be coming for you.

    Hey Tampa Tim,
How are your Obamacare enrollment numbers going? Wait... "The most transparent Administration in history" won't realease the numbers, but they are more than willing to put people at risk for identity theft by releasing a website that failed several security checks.
