McCain: Hillary Clinton a 'formidable candidate'

(CNN) - Sen. John McCain praised former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vice President Joe Biden Monday, saying that Clinton would be a strong presidential candidate and that it would be a mistake to count out Biden's chances for the White House.

According to Bloomberg, McCain was speaking to reporters after a joint breakfast appearance in Chicago with Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, when the 2008 Republican presidential nominee said that "I don't think there's any doubt that Secretary Clinton would be a very strong candidate."

Clinton, who was also a Senator from New York state after leaving the White House as first lady, has remained coy about her 2016 plans, although it is expected she would quickly become the Democratic frontrunner were she to run.

"I don't think there's any doubt she has widespread support," McCain said. But there was caution along with the praise.

"Her work as secretary of state, with the exception of this issue of Benghazi – which isn't going away – I think has been outstanding. I think she would be viewed by anyone, Republican or Democrat, as a very formidable candidate for 2016."

McCain also had a few positive words for Biden, who served in the Senate for nearly four decades before becoming Vice President. The Arizona Republican called Biden a "wonderful guy" and cautioned that to "rule Joe Biden out of this mix" would be folly.

Democrats are going down big time in 2014 & 2016 thanks to Obamacare. Hillary Clinton shouldn't even bother wasting her time only to be humiliated again. Democrats will pay a heavy price for messing with and wrecking our healthcare. This is personal at this point, not theoretical. The lies they told, and continue to tell, have shown the American people what the Democrats are all about.

Not really.......but the Dems have the foolish notion that it is better to have the first woman, than to have a good leader.........just as they felt it was better to have the first black, than to have a good leader.

Such notions, are why this country has gone from one catastrophe to another, when Dems were in power.

Rick M – you must have slept through the W years. Remember the wars, the near depression, the loss of 8 million jobs in one year, the stock market drop to 6700, 1.6 billion annual deficits? Ah yes, republican leadership and global economic disasters were so much fun.

  11. 3am Phone Call

Sorry but Hillary Clinton's 3am phone call came from Benghazi with lives on the line. She hung up. She failed miserably. Four Americans are dead because of her incompetence or callous indifference. All she cared about was the collection and burying of the bodies and facts surrounding her complete and total failure as a leader.

    WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?!!

First off it was the Republicans that were humiliated in 2012 after they were soo confident of a victory. Secondly, the health care Democrats are messing with was given to you by the Democrats from the start. People complained about medicare and social security and called those programs socialism as well. Do you here anyone complaining about them now? The same will happen with the ACA. In 20 years from now it will be people like you that will claim "its personal" when they try and take that away from you.

Rethugs are going down big time in 2014 & 2016 thanks to their $24 Billion – WITH A "B" – shutting down of the government . The rethugs shouldn't even bother wasting their time only to be humiliated again. Rethugs will pay a heavy price for messing with and wrecking the entire world economy. This is personal at this point, not theoretical. The lies they told, and continue to tell, have shown the American people what the rethugs are all about.

Rudy – some day Americans will wake up and realize what is going on. It's starting to happen as the lies of Obamacare come out. Lok at the LA Times – young person was all for Obamacare – until she found out that SEHE had to help foot the bill. Simply proves that the Dems are very good at buying votes. That's the problem as Thatcher said, sooner or later you run out of other peoples money.

The men who died in Benghazi died as heroes (including by the way several local who died fighting FOR us), but they were heroes because they knew diplomacy is a dangerous mission. Diplomats have been killed as long as there have been diplomats. The ambassador had in fact turned out offers of military support precisely because he believe so strongly that he could not do his job unless he was open to the people. Those deaths were tragic, but they shouldn't be turned into political fodder. An after action review was done, every recommendation is made was adopted by the state department, and some beyond it. During the attack, the military has testified before congress that they had no assets that could have reached them in time. Could security have been better? Sure. We however have thousands of locations around the world, and not enough money or resources to do everything we would like with all of them. Judgement calls have to be made. The budget had been cut by congress just the year before in fact. It is incredibly easy to wait until after something happens to say this or that should have been done. I don't recall this kind of outrage after the attack on the U.S.S. Cole though, or the Marine barracks, or any number of other attacks.

The Obama haters come in at least three disting different flavors. There are the establishment neo-cons like McCain, Romney, McConnell and even Boehner. There the anti-establishment annihillist libertarians like Cruz, Lee, and Paul. Finally, there are the hard-core haters, who are the loudest of them hall.

Hillary's favorable rating is HIGHER than any poltical fighure in the US. And the GOP can try to make Benghazi a "scandal" just like they tried (and failed misreably) with all the other Ken Starr bull%&it. The GOP right wing crazies are just too stupid and isolated to realize that Hillary is respected and admired by the vast majority of Americans. But of course when you get your "news" from FOX, Palin and Rush, you are serioulsy un-informed!

Unfortunately for the GOP, any Democratic candidate will be "formidable" given the state the GOP is in. Their last candidate? Who know where he is. McCain- who'd think with the GOP's insane rightward trajectory that he'd look like a liberal now? Cruz? Bachmann, Santorum? Puleeeze. The cows in Iowa will vote for them. Real people, not so much. The GOP needs to deal with their money-wasting treason before anyone treats them credibly again.
