(CNN) - Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid reacted sternly Tuesday to a GOP Senator who reportedly used a swear word to describe the Nevada Democrat.
According to the New York Daily News, Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma was at a Republican gala Monday night in New York City when he spoke of civility in the Senate and that there are Democrats he gets along with, but not Reid, the top Democrat in the chamber.
"There's no comity with Harry Reid. I think he's an absolute a–hole," Coburn reportedly said.
Reid's office minced no words in its reaction to Coburn's reported profanity.
"Nothing says 'comity' like childish playground name-calling, especially from a senator who has not sponsored a single piece of successful bipartisan legislation during his entire Senate career," Reid spokeswoman Adam Jentleson said in a statement Tuesday morning.
Coburn's office hit back at Reid's Tuesday afternoon, striking out at Jentleson by name.
"Adam's opportunistic – and factually-challenged – faux outrage shows why these conversations are best left at the member level. Adam apparently missed the 2008 presidential campaign during which Barack Obama campaigned on bipartisan transparency legislation he wrote with Senator Coburn," Coburn spokesman John Hart said in a statement.
"He also may have missed the student loan debate this year when Dr. Coburn worked with Senator Manchin and others on a bipartisan solution."
Coburn refused to confirm his reported comments from the night before at a press conference Tuesday, saying only that "my conversations with Sen. Reid will be in private."
Coburn did however charge that Reid has "done more damage to the senate than any majority leader."
The two men have long had a testy relationship, clashing regularly over the years, mostly on earmarks and fiscal issues.
Asked by CNN whether he had talked with Reid, Coburn said "I will."
Reid has himself not shied from choice words in the past. In August, he told the legislator presiding over the Senate to have his fellow legislators "sit down and shut up."

Reid doesn't have to put up with these braindead GOP teaparty losers who will be kicked out of office for losing24 billion of our money in world record time of 16 DAYS. 2014 midterms can't come fast enough to get rid of these FAKE GOP fiscal teaparty conservatives. Make sure you vote next nov. The dems need ONLY 17 seats to take the house, we can doooo it!!!!!
I guess we could have bought three bulliut trains for 8 billion a piece with the 24 BILLION the GOP teaparty slugs lost in just 16 days, kick this GOP teaparty trash out in nov midterms!!!!!
Coburn is simply stupid
When on earth will we vote these useless republicans out of office. If all we want are name calling, send them all to the playground and then maybe we can get some work done. Other things need to be done, not just trying to defund Obamacare. You would think you can do more then one thing at a time.
