For many, Obama's promise of health care choice does not ring true

Washington (CNN) - In her grilling on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius reiterated a frequent assertion in the Obamacare sales pitch - consumers have options when shopping for insurance plans on the health care exchanges.

"The 15% of our neighbors and friends who are uninsured have affordable new options in a competitive market," Sebelius said in her testimony to the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

  1. The REAL Truth...

@Donna – Here's the real, Democrat desired solution. Cancel ALL of their insurance and enroll them all in Medicaid. Let all of the federal employees experience first hand the healthcare system the Democrats strive to give all of us. Totally government paid for, single payer right? Go for it Democrats. Put your healthcare where your mouth is!
    ------------------------------------–
If the lack on knowledge on the subject wasn't bad enough, the pontification certainly wins out. It has been explained in clear terms by other posters that Congress and it's staff are EMPLOYEES of the Federal Govt, have EXISTING COVERAGE under their plans and are therefore complying with the letter of the law. They are NOT EXEMPT!
Instead of the ongoing whining from the GOP (about their own plan) it would serve us all better if they offered some WORKABLE solutions to the unexpected problems with the program. I'm sure it's on the their list, right behind demonizing the POTUS, stirring up the rabble, re-election goals, and the jobs (?????) platform they ran on in 2010!!

You can't keep your plan if your plan is illegal. Also, no one said that the price of your plan won't go up.

I believe that Senator Issa has a serious conflict of interest as He throws subpoenas around regarding the Affrodable Healthcare Act. The reason being that he and his colleagues refysed to give Scretary Sbellius the funds necessary to properly roll-out the program on October 1st. Why is everyone forgetting that the Republican Party held the country's budget hostage in order to scrape Obamacare even before the american public had a chance to review all of the choices and see if there was anything good about what was being offered. Now, they had a grilling of Secretary Sebellius as though they did not know that without the necessary funds the program would have problems during the roll-out. What they were hoping for was that the President would hold off the Oct. 1st launch and he did not!!!!

OK, so basically what we now know is that NOTHING that Obama and the Democrats said when they forced this nightmare down our throats was true. And how convenient is it that all this has now come to light AFTER Obama's re-election. Again, not a coincidence. Just like the delay of the employer mandate is not a coincidence and is driven entirely by the Democrats desire to survive the 2014 election with more than 10 House seats and 5 Senate seats.

Obamacare, the last nail in the Obama-Democrat coffin.

The reason we have not seen the mass insurance cancellations from employers or Unions is they have a one year pass... those come next year when they see the penalty is less than the coverage... that's just business. and to avoid penalty you simply have to cut to 29 hours... so more to come next year...

oh absolutely!!! I have said all along this was just tip tip of the obamacare disaster. it only gets much, much worse from here.

good news is though that the obama and the democrats are toast in 2014 & 2016 all thanks to their massive fraud called obamacare.

when did obama or the democrats ever tell this to the american people? never. obama has claimed over and over people could keep their healthcare plans if they liked them. he never said they could keep them if the obamacare law deemed them worthy of being kept. obama also claimed people would save $2500 a year. now they are finding that not only do they pay more for the health insurance, it has a much higher deductible that people must pay out of pocket for before they even start getting treatments paid for.

obamacare has been a total lie and a scam on every single front.

If you are 27 and healthy... why would you pay 2400 a year instead of a 90 dollar tax penalty? Wonder what the cost is for a 47 year old and a family of five (can't get on the site)? That and under the new rules what is it going to cost employers next year... when they have to decide to do it or not.

  9. NC is Worse Than Alabama

In NC the state does not participate in the exchange. Only 1 company Blue Cross Blue Shield is available in 100% of the state. Another company is participating in 35% of the state. It is the insurance companies without competition that are ripping off consumers because they know they can.

If you are 27 and healthy, decide to pay your $90 penalty for not being insured, and then drive your motorcycle into the side of a semi. Will you expect the rest of us to pay for your negligence, your wheelchair, and your meals the rest of your life?

Romney Care and Obama Care are two different type bills Romney care works for their state and Obama Care doesn't work for any state much less the Country.

Why don't you try and go online if you can and build a plan and you will see it will cost more at our expense the tax payers that is.

actually, $90 or 1% of their yearly income, whichever is higher. of course this all assumes obama enforces the law which is rare for him to do. i'm sure they will all be granted blanket amnesty in time for the next election.

Oh, so you like the RomneyCare plan for Massachussets, do you? Let's test.

QUESTION: What is the difference between the state government requiring that you purchase health insurance and the federal government requiring that you purchase health insurance?

    ANSWER: There is no difference.

  20. The REAL Truth...

I love all the rhetoric and outrage the rw faithful have over signing up for ACA (which most do not even need to do), and the (yet more) waste of taxpayers dollars by the House GOP witch hunt team over a website rollout. The comedic value of watching these bozos complain about not being able to sign up for a program they've tried to repeal 42+ times (and taken to the SCOTUS and failed)?? Priceless..

    Just asking,
A lawyer does not need to tell you that you can't do illegal things. Also, Obama promised in 2008, when he was running fro president, that he will pass a universal health care law that will cut the cost of a typical family's premium by up to $2,500 a year by the end of his first term. As you know, Obama did not succeed in passing a universal health care law. Obamacare is NOT a universal health care law. It is a government requirement to buy private insurance OR pay a fine. You can opt out of buying insurance if you pay a fine, assuming that you don't qualify for an exemption. (You are exempt if your income is below 133% of the federal poverty level; and no, members of Congress are not exempt.)

Obama said in 2009 that his health care plan COULD save families $2,500 a year. This time he did not say that the savings will happen by the end of his first term.

but we already have millions fraudulently on the government dole and you do and say nothing to stop it. why deny this truly disabled person? they would be truly disabled so yes. would the left have the person just starve and die? i guess so. just starve and die quickly, the new left solution.
