Washington (CNN) - In her grilling on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius reiterated a frequent assertion in the Obamacare sales pitch - consumers have options when shopping for insurance plans on the health care exchanges.
"The 15% of our neighbors and friends who are uninsured have affordable new options in a competitive market," Sebelius said in her testimony to the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
Meh. Notice the states having the "problems." Yeah. Now look at the people in control of those states. You can bet your perky brown star that they went out of their way to repeal helpful state laws and enact new hindrance laws all in an effort to create the self-fulfilling prophecy. For example, FL didn't get rid of state authority over premiums in order to be more 'free market"...it did it to help insurers jack up premiums on the exchanges so they could turn around and say the exchange premiums weren't low enough or were higher or whatever they were able to achieve that would "disprove" that the ACA is effective. This article is superficial fluff and fails to do even the most remedial, basic homework that would permit a rational discussion of inter-state differences on the exchanges.
"If you are 27 and healthy... why would you pay 2400 a year instead of a 90 dollar tax penalty?"
Because you're a responsible adult you recognizes that, at the very least, life comes with risks and you cannot know whether you will become a victim of them....and, perhaps if you're even a little more responsible, you recognize that you need yearly checkups and other regular and preventative services. Or, you can just be a jackhole and fly by the seat of your pants and expect everyone else to pick up the tab if you get into a car accident or something. In which case, you're a lazy, fiscally irresponsible, mooching societal leech (to borrow language from the GOP/Teatrolls).
What are the odds that some of these people who are experiencing higher premiums will see a refund from the insurer becase the premiums that were being charged were too high?
"Now, they had a grilling of Secretary Sebellius as though they did not know that without the necessary funds the program would have problems during the roll-out"
Yes, during the hearing one of the republicant te abaggg ers tried to claim that the House republicants had "cooperated" with the Dems. He got an earful and a faceful of some the House Dems who are sick of this S#it just like the majority of the American people are. The republicants really, really, believe that American's are stupid and hey By the looks of the Virginia Governor's race, it looks like the te abgag ers are fixing to find out what happens to deceitful, money squandering demagogues in America.
With all the hearings. Do the GOP realize they are bad for business. Some of the website people who were called to testify work for a subsidiary of Verizon. I'm sure Verizon has donated to many right wing causes. But now, do you think they will win the next project they bid on. These hearings have hurt the reputation of some major corporations. The GOP should have just waited for the "fixes."
GOP is spewing venom–worst thugs of modern Al Queda is this GOP.
This whole thing stinks to high heaven. First states with Republican governors and a substantial Republican presence if not a majority in the legislature walk away from setting up exchanges which overloads a poorly designed federal system. Some of these same states refuse Medicaid expansion leaving millions with no insurance. Insurance companies cancel overpriced junk policies held by yuppies more than happy to talk to television reporters about the failure of the ACA... I smell the foul breath of a Republican...
@DONNA – LOL – IF the Dems gets their way in 2014 – honey let me give you a little "tip" of the day......You won't be posting some of the things you have been quoted saying on these boards......LOL – good luck to u -
"Do the GOP realize they are bad for business."
They are for the most part, but they are money in the bank for the MSM and advertising firms. I guarantee you that CNN's executives thank god every single day for the baseless nontroversies the GOP/Teatrolls have been manufacturing for the past 5 years....and the ad firms couldn't be more pleased with the viewership and clicks that it helps generate.
"What are the odds that some of these people who are experiencing higher premiums will see a refund from the insurer becase the premiums that were being charged were too high?"
Pretty darn good actually. The 80/20 rule already resulted in well over a billion dollars in rebates last year.
Just by the coverage once your sick or hurt.... can't deny you...
And to say it's the responsible thing to do.... in America... with more people on gov assistance than have jobs... lol
You can't keep your plan if your plan is illegal. Also, no one said that the price of your plan won't go up.
when did obama or the democrats ever tell this to the american people? never. obama has claimed over and over people could keep their healthcare plans if they liked them. he never said they could keep them if the obamacare law deemed them worthy of being kept. obama also claimed people would save $2500 a year. now they are finding that not only do they pay more for the health insurance, it has a much higher deductible that people must pay out of pocket for before they even start getting treatments paid for.
obamacare has been a total lie and a scam on every single front.
No, he was very upfront about the idea that if certain plans did nto meet the standard, there would be plans put forht by the insurers that did.meet the standards. Can you think of any reason why you should have inadequate health insurance? Apparently only the people that take their marching orders from Uncle Rupert and his propaganda machine at FOX would believe that there are no alternatives available. I always thought you righties wanted to use the power of the market to drive the cost down: well, here is your opportunity. I guess only the complete imbeciles that inhabit the rightie blogosphere think they can get by without insurance and will pass the cost of their health needs onto us: thanks a lot, you parasitic little ba$tards.
I cannot wait until 2014 to see the look on the faces of all the Obama haters.
A wretch like that could never be my Pastor. My Pastor knows and lives out Ephesians 4: 4-6; Galatians 3: 28-29 etc.
You folks posting on here act so righteous yet you sound just like the clowns on both sides of the aisle in Washington! Your snarky comments are no different then what they spew toward each other. It is no wonder this country is declining.
"but we already have millions fraudulently on the government dole and you do and say nothing to stop it. why deny this truly disabled person? they would be truly disabled so yes. would the left have the person just starve and die? i guess so. just starve and die quickly, the new left solution."
Where does one start? 1. How about (outside rush/beck/hannity) some proof we have "millions fraudulently on the government dole "?
2. I do not belive it is the 'left' who have ever tried to deny services to anyone truly in need of it... that is your parties schtick.
3. No we would not just have him starve and die
4. The new 'left' solution for people being accountable for themselves and preparing for such a catastrophe is the ACA... which you have typed your fingers to the bone to criticize (but now for some reason are upset becuase people cannot access it quick enough. Do you noit find this a little strange?).
So I think I have it figured out. Obama, much like Clinton, took a republicant idea (this is staight from the Heritage Foundation and you know it), proposed it (which, due to instinct, the republicnats immediiately hated...didn't read it, didn't listen, didn't care- you knew he proposed it and that was good enough for you to oppose it). By the time you woke and realized what he had done, you couldn't turn around so you had to keep fighting. Obama then simply drove you off the cliff you had backed up to and has consistently beat ya'll at your own game. Over and over and over again, which just heightens your hatred of him.
I just love watching ya'll squirm and whine and dream... but the fact of ther matter is, ya'll had your chance with bush and you completely blew it. It is over and your entire party has basically got one foot in the grave and one on a banana peel (the one's with any dignity, anyhow and the rest are just snake oil salesmen).
You should be thanking Obama for making your party's final days as comfortable and peacful as he is.
He is a good President.
Everybody's health insurance policy renews every year – you just didn't notice. The only difference now is people are finding out just how crappy their old policy was: It's being "cancelled" because it doesn't meet the minimum requirements under Obamacare.
That last bit you'll never hear on Fox or from the RWNJ talking heads ...
If you are only paying 2400 a year you are pretty low income... so the 6000 dollar deductible is going to break you anyway.... Honestly, how many mid 20 year olds have 6K laying around?. So if you do have that accident and are now out of work... the deductible just smoked you anyway. I don't see the reason a healthy young person would buy in? You could pay as you go... unless you know something is wrong and you require special x rays or something... then you just go online, sign up, and start your care. You would save thousands a year depending on how long you stay healthy... which for some people could be decades... Know if you have a family and all that... are getting mid aged... yes you absolutely need it.
Facts to chew on: About 15 million people (5% of the population) buy their health insurance policies on the individual market (i.e., they don't get it through their employer). These policies are typically a 12-month contract, which, when it runs out, the purchaser can decide to stop buying the plan – AND the insurance company can choose to no longer offer the plan.
The journal "Health Affairs" recently did a survey that found that about 17% of folks purchasing health insurance policies this way bought the same plan for 2 straight years or longer. That means 83% of folks switched plans at 1 or 2 years. That's a lot of turnover – and a lot of shopping for insurance policies.
What's happened with Obamacare is some people are having to shop for a new policy because what they were buying didn't offer the required minimum coverage. Here are the broad categories that Obamacare requires be covered:
Ambulatory patient services
Maternity and newborn care
Mental health and substance abuse disorder services, including behavioral health treatment
Rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices
Preventive and wellness services and chronic disease management
Pediatric services, including oral and vision care
All of this is available online ... no excuse for buying the repub and tea bag lies ... unless, of course, you LIKE being played for a fool.
