Washington (CNN) - Sen. Tom Coburn is facing his second diagnosis of prostate cancer in two years, his office said Tuesday.
"Dr. Coburn has had a recurrence of prostate cancer and will be undergoing further evaluation and treatment," spokesman John Hart said in a statement.
The Senator, who is also a physician, is expected to be away work this week but may return as soon as next week, an aide said.
The two-term Republican Senator from Oklahoma underwent a procedure in October, 2011 when he was first diagnosed with the disease. He previously suffered from melanoma when he was in his twenties and he had colon cancer about 10 years ago.
